Do you love your job?

I was going to ask if you love going to work, but it’s early in the week and everyone has days when they’d prefer to stay home even if they enjoy what they do.

Nearly 500 years before the birth of Christ, Confucius said, “Choose a job you love, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.”

It’s as true today as then.

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Colossians 3:23

Change your attitude, have fun at work, and you will enjoy greater success.

People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing. ~ Dale Carnegie

“Dave Hemseth and Leslie  Yerkes, co-authors of “301 Ways to Have Fun at Work” say that “organizations that integrate fun into work have lower levels of absenteeism, greater job satisfaction, increased productivity, and less downtime”.

5 Simple Ways to Have Fun at Work

1. Personalize your space – Add photos, a plant, and colors . . . whatever your business allows that makes you happy.

2. Take a lunch break – Go for a walk, eat outside (weather permitting) . . . just do something to change the scenery.

3. Encourage your boss and coworkers – show them you care about them as people, not for what they do but for who they are.

4. Do the task you dislike most, first – Getting what you dread out-of-the-way will change your attitude about the rest of the day.

5. Celebrate accomplishments – Large and small . . . celebrate with words and awards. Celebrations motivate everyone.

Bonus – Forgive slights quickly – Decide to give your boss, coworkers, and yourself grace. Forgive mistakes in words or actions immediately – before you have time to magnify the problem.

National Kazoo Day

Yes, that funny little submarine shaped instrument/toy has its own day.

The kazoo was invented by an American named Alabama Vest and made to his specifications by a German clock master named Thaddeus Von Clegg in Macon, Georgia back in the 1840’s, and was first introduced at the Georgia State Fair in 1852.

Why not have fun today, by taking a kazoo to work and humming a little tune. Just keep it short, so you don’t become annoying.

And tonight, have some fun with your kiddos and organize a Family Kazoo Band. They’ll groan, but they’ll love it! (If you don’t have a plastic, metal, or wood kazoo . . . grab a toilet paper roll, cover one end with wax paper held in place with a rubber band.)

Let’s Talk: What are your secrets to making work fun? When is the last time you played a kazoo?

“We all live with the objective of being happy; our lives are all different and yet the same.” – Anne Frank

  1. I loved having a kazoo when I was a kid! The sound it made in tune to my humming was so much fun! That would be fun to bring one to work… Right now I’m not working. It’s been since we moved a few months ago. But, I always found that being a cheerful light in the workplace makes the whole experience better! Also, taking time to talk with c0-workers during free time makes it seem more like going to work to see friends than sitting at a desk for drudgery. Oh, and don’t forget to bring goodies to share in the break room! That always goes over well! 🙂

    Blessings for a happy day!

  2. Thanks Joan, you too! My most recent job outside of the house was in retail. Honestly I worked more for wardrobe than income. 😉 I used to tell everyone how much I loved it, and it’s funny how that attitude in infectious . . . of course having great gals around helped too. Never did take a kazoo with me. I’m sure they would have loved that. BTW – I finally got my Rubber Ducky. It lights up and flashes different colors. Silly thing makes me laugh every time. Gotta celebrate the little things!
