Quotes on Faith, Trust, and Following Jesus
Yesterday I asked, “Do we really believe Jesus plus nothing is enough?”
We want to add doctrine, rules, and practices because they’re easier. We understand doing it right and being accepted by others who are doing the same. But that’s not . . . Jesus plus nothing.
So what does it mean to trust, to be a disciple, to follow Jesus?
Today, we’ll look at quotes and verses on faith, trust, and following Jesus. Tomorrow, I’ll add my thoughts and experiences – my testimony of going from a good little church girl to someone who just wants to follow Jesus, trusting that wherever He leads me is exactly where I want to be.
Quotes and Verses on Faith, Trust, and Following Jesus
“Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. Luke 5:27b
“Jesus’ simple poetic words are delivered casually and gently. Jesus prefers to explain a difficult concept over time, never talking down to His followers, patiently letting the words soak in until they understand them fully.” ~Roma Downey, Son of God

For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:26
“Many Christians have what we might call a “cultural holiness”. They adapt to the character and behavior pattern of Christians around them. As the Christian culture around them is more or less holy, so these Christians are more or less holy. But God has not called us to be like those around us. He has called us to be like himself. Holiness is nothing less than conformity to the character of God.” ~Jerry Bridges
“No one can sum up all God is able to accomplish through one solitary life, wholly yielded, adjusted, and obedient to Him.” ~Dwight L. Moody
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 8:12
“A Christian reveals true humility by showing the gentleness of Christ, by being always ready to help others, by speaking kind words and performing unselfish acts, which elevate and ennoble the most sacred message that has come to our world.” ~Ellen G. White
“Truth, according to the Christian faith, is God’s love for us in Jesus Christ. Therefore, truth is a relationship.” ~Pope Francis
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock. Isaiah 26:3–4
“As a pastor in a Protestant church, my whole ministry centers on the conviction that by grace we are saved through faith. And it’s not our faith that delivers us, as if believing something, anything at all were pleasing to God. It’s the object of our faith – Christ’s life, death, and resurrection – that saves us.” ~Kevin DeYoung
“A rule I have had for years is: to treat the Lord Jesus Christ as a personal friend. His is not a creed, a mere doctrine, but it is He Himself we have.” ~Dwight L. Moody
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.” John 14:1
“Jesus does not call us to do what He did, but to be as He was, permeated with love. Then the doing of what He did and said becomes the natural expression of who we are in Him.” ~Dallas Willard

What is your favorite quote about following Jesus?
I like the quote from Pope Francis!
Blessings, Deb!
Wow, Deb, how did you know this was just what I needed today? I wrote a post along these same lines today and these scriptures and thoughts you shared were like God’s hug for me. Thank you! Love you. Heart Hugs, Shelly <3
I’m so glad it blessed you Shelly! I needed it too! Blessings and hugs to you!
One of my favorite stories in the Bible is the one of Jesus and the father of the demon-possessed son. I love his answer: “I believe help my unbelief.” I see that as saying, “I have enough faith for a 6. I’ll trust you to make it a 12 (using a ruler as a guide).” There are times I have just a little faith to bring to Him but that is all He wants. Then I can trust more. Thanks for the challenge Deb.
