Thankful Thirty – Zest for Life Makes Everyday Better
We’ve made it to the end of the alphabet. A to Z of thanksgiving. 26 specific souls blessings gifted by God. And do you want to know something?
This is just the tip of too many wonderful blessings to list. We could go on and on every day of the year and never come to the end of things for which we can thank God. And we didn’t even look at tangible touchable blessings like home, family, friends, work, etc.
But there aren’t many words that begin with “z”.
I thought about zeal, but that can have a negative meaning taking enthusiasm too far.
Zest however is perfect.
Through faith we have everything we need to have an abundant zest for life.
What is zest for life?
Here are some synonyms:
- Enthusiasm
- Passion
- Joy
- Delight
- Eagerness
- and my favorite – Bliss
Because we have faith in Jesus that gives us hope for the future we are able to face each day with enthusiasm and joy. We can pursue goals and dreams. We can LIVE!
Jesus said,“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. Matthew 5:13
and “Salt is a good thing; but if it has lost its zest, how can it be seasoned again? You should have salt within yourselves and peace with one another.” Mark 9:50
Zest for life is available to us. God wants it for us. No where in Scripture is there anything that indicates that He wants us to live fearful or frozen.
Enthusiasm is a synonym for zest. And Norman Vincent Peale wrote the following for Guideposts Magazine:
The word enthusiasm is derived from two little Greek words, en and theos, with theos being the Greek word for God. So “enthusiasm” literally means, in its root concept, “full of God.”
May we grab hold of the zest He’s given and LIVE.
Quotes about Living a Zestful Life
“Protect your enthusiasm from the negativity and fear of others. Never decide to do nothing just because you can only do little. Do what you can. You would be surprised at what “little” acts have done for our world.” ~Steve Maraboli
“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” ~Charles Wesley
“Wherever you are, be all there. Live to the hilt every situation you believe to be the will of God.” ~Jim Elliot
“Spirit filled souls are ablaze for God. They love with a love that glows. They serve with a faith that kindles. They serve with a devotion that consumes. They hate sin with fierceness that burns. They rejoice with a joy that radiates. Love is perfected in the fire of God.” ~Samuel Chadwick
Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Romans 12:10–11
Father, Thank you! Your blessings fill our lives with everything we need to live each day with joy and enthusiasm. Forgive us for taking our eyes off You. Forgive us for grumbling as we pay the consequences for our failures. Forgive us and help us to follow You completely. You call us the “salt of the earth.” May we keep that in mind and share with joy every blessing You give. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
I love knowing that the word “enthusiasm” means “full of God!” How marvelous is this? I will be inspired to live with zest and enthusiasm for Him.
Blessings, Deb!
This was a wonderful post about zest for life and fun to read the quotes. I love living with zest and being around people who have a zest for life and a sense of humor to go with it too!
