How You Can Live with Faith Unafraid of the End of the World
We were having a discussion during one of our Sunday Morning Bible Classes. Several people commented on their desire for the second coming of Jesus. As many nodded in agreement, one of my friends joined the conversation and said, “I’m so anxious to see Jesus but I don’t really want to live through the prophecies of persecution and disasters.” And many agreed, they were afraid of the end times.
Revelation 6 begins a section of Scripture that many avoid. We don’t want to think about the loss of peace resulting in wars, a crash of the world economy, death by famine and disease, the martyring of faithful believers, earthquakes, and the heavens darkening.
The End Times prophecies give a warning about God’s judgment.
Through this time of hardship through war, persecution, famine, and suffering you and I are called to stand on the firm foundation of faith in Christ. We are called to endure as we keep our focus on the Lord.
John wrote:
Then everyone—the kings of the earth, the rulers, the generals, the wealthy, the powerful, and every slave and free person—all hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains. And they cried to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of the one who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb. For the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to survive?”
Revelation 6:15–17
As I watch world events cause fear to increase, I often wonder if we are living out the days of prophecy.
The truth for you and me is that even if we are . . . we can live unafraid of end times.
When those who have arrogantly rejected God’s grace, mercy, and love given in and through Jesus are terrified of His judgment; You and I can know we are safe and secure in Jesus.
I’m not saying the days won’t be difficult, I’m saying we can live unafraid . . . as followers of Jesus we have the sure foundation of His unfailing promises:
♥ “Be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
♥ Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)
♥ Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. (Psalm 23:)
♥ The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7 ESV)
♥ The King will say to those on his right, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” (Matthew 25:34
We can keep our focus on the One whose perfect love is able to remove all fear…
♥ Where God’s love is, there is no fear, because God’s perfect love drives out fear. (1 John 4:18 NCV)
A Prayer to Live with Faith Unafraid of the End of the World
Father, thank you for Jesus. Because of His life, death, and resurrection and because of the faith You have given me, I don’t have to be afraid of the end of the world. Thank you for Your promises that give me strength and hope even when the world around me is filled with chaos and confusion.
I believe You are always with me. I believe You hold me up in victory. I believe you will walk with me through the darkest valley. I believe I will have peace in my soul when I focus on Jesus. I believe He is preparing a place for me in heaven. I believe Your perfect love is able to remove my fear.
By the power of Your Spirit, please pull me back in faith when the enemy uses news reports and personal problems to distract me with fear. Give me a love for Your Word and a deep desire to SEEK You above all else in my life. Grant me Your peace and fill me with the hope that never fails. In the victorious name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
The One who sits on the throne has won the victory! And He will return!
Every single person on the planet should be watching and ready! But when we KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST in Jesus we can live with hope and anticipation. We can live without fear of the end because, for us, it will be the beginning of the best!
Remember . . . the best is yet to come!
On today’s note write:
I believe in Jesus. I am unafraid of the end of the world!
May God fill you with His peace and hope and help you live unafraid today.
As Christians, we shouldn’t be afraid in the least, Deb. Praying for all who have yet to know and accept Jesus as their Savior.
Blessings!
I’m so very thankful for the peace we have in Jesus! God bless you, Martha!
This is an interesting subject. I always heard that the rapture would happen before all these sufferings would come to the earth. If you think about, Matthew 24:40-42 indicating it as well as it describes people in various activities and one gets whisked away while the other remains. My understanding is that when Jesus comes back visibly to all then we, believers coming with him.
However, it’s undeniable that the world’s situation is progressively declining and it’s unavoidable that we are inflicted by these happenings. You’re right Deb, that only Jesus can help and guide us through all difficulties current and in the future.
Hi Gaby. I have chosen not to talk about a rapture for several reasons. One reason is I believe it is important to focus on the things that unite us. In Bible classes, I have heard many people argue passionately about various rapture perspectives. Another reason is that the teaching of the rapture leaves room for a second chance for those who have not been raptured to come to faith in Jesus. There are many verses that talk about Jesus returning suddenly and the judgment for all will occur at that time. (Matthew 24:27, Matthew 24:44, 1 Corinthians 15:52, 1 Thessalonians 5:2, 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17, Luke 17:26–27) I want people to be prepared and focus on faith in Christ Jesus now. And the Life Application Bible Notes for Matthew 24:40–42 say, “Christs’ second coming will be swift and sudden. There will be no opportunity for last-minute repentance or bargaining.” I so appreciate your comment and that you added this to the conversation. God bless you!
