Important Truth Learned in the Hall of Locked Doors
I don’t usually remember my dreams.
That’s one of the reasons I’ve found it interesting when the Lord chooses to teach me through dreams. A few times I’ve had wow, smack me up the side of the head get my attention dreams.
Most often, it’s been repetitive dreams that finally make me stop and ask, “Okay Lord, what do you want me to learn from this.”
Which is the story behind…
The Important Truth Learned in the Hall of Locked Doors
Once or twice a week I wandered through a HUGE house with many wings each with multiple floors. I guess you’d call it a mansion and it was home . . . although it never felt homey.
Sometimes family was there or friends came to visit, but most of the time I explored alone.
The thing I found interesting about this house was the number of rooms that had locked doors that no one could enter. This was my house! Who has a house with locked rooms to keep themselves out?!
Over the years the houses varied, but the nights spent roaming halls with locked doors never did.
I can be a slow learner. But eventually, I wondered if maybe there was a takeaway from the dream. So, I prayed asking God to show me a meaning.
One morning as I woke up from another hallway visit the Lord whispered, “That’s what your heart looks like to me.”
What?
I prayed regularly to be submissive and obedient to the Lord. But it’s like a light went on. I realized I had hurts behind one door and regrets behind another. A little anger hidden in one room and worry and fear locked in another.
[Tweet “I was holding back and Jesus was asking for complete trust – everything!”]
He wanted me to unlock and open those doors. All of them. He wanted me to surrender their contents, take all of those burdens I had locked away and let Him replace them with forgiveness, peace, and joy.
You and I add the words, “in Jesus’ name” to the end of our prayers believing they are a word stamp to get His approval. But praying in the Savior’s name is really asking to be connected to His kingdom purposes.
What are Christ’s kingdom purposes?
* Love – God with all my heart, soul, mind and strength, and others as I love and care for myself.
* To Glorify the Father – The question always before me is . . . who gets the glory here?
* To Benefit the Kingdom – All of His children, forever and always. Jesus purpose always has a greater perspective.
* To Grow and Mold Me as His Redeemed – Always increasing in love, trust, and obedience.
* To Bless Me with Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-control that I Might Bless Others – Always giving what He knows is best.
That is open door surrender. Complete trust. Giving every bit of our mess and brokenness to Jesus allowing Him to use us for His kingdom purposes.
It’s scary. Vulnerability is hard. But the blessing of His love, joy, peace, etc . . . is so good you may just wonder why you waited so long!
Jesus promised His followers true peace, not some pseudo peace that looks good on the outside but churns with anxiety on the inside. But the real thing. Super-natural indescribable peace only He can give.
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27
Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
I’m praying every door of your heart will be unlocked and thrown open! And that you’ll know the blessing found in completely trusting Jesus . . . not only for eternity but for moments. For hopes, fears, frustrations, dreams, and everything and anything else your heart has locked away.
We would love to pray for you.

That is a fascinating dream! And what a lesson and a word picture.
Giving Jesus every bit of our mess and brokenness. That one hit me. Yes, there are things that I think are just too messy for Him that I should at least repair a few cracks in and maybe do a little paint job before I bring Him on the scene to survey the mess.
Such truth here. As always.
Love you, friend!
Isn’t it amazing when God uses dreams to get our attention! So thankful that He is a communicating God, and that He will stop at NOTHING to get His point across to us!
Blessings on your wide open doors!
Your words, Deb, are such a confirmation for where the Lord has been leading me. I took that risky step in being a little more open this week on my blog and I had a bit of hesitation in pushing publish. Yet, I am finding the more and more I am willing to say YES to Him, to make it a sacred echo that resonates deeply in all the conversations I have with Him… I am learning to trust HIM more and worry what others think less. When I read your words today, I realized that there are locked doors in my heart too,but the key He holds is still turning in the rusty hinges of my heart open and I am thankful for His grace and love and for servants like you who speak truth.
Blessings,
Dawn
I so needed these words of comfort today, Deb. I know some of my doors are locked; I will pray Jesus will open them for me so I might trust completely.
Blessings!
I think you’re absolutely right. a perfect metaphor for what God is after in our lives. He wants access to every locked room. The irony is that we lock the door and also lock ourselves in whether we realize it or not. It’s He who gives us the freedom to leave and truly find liberty in our soul!
Thank you for sharing! I find dreams to be so intriguing. I am new to your blog, I just subscribed! I am excited to read more. I also entered your Friday blog hop…I hope I did it right!
Blessings,
Rachel
Oh, great analogy, Deb.
Don’t ya just love how God wastes nothing? Even when we sleep, He’s at work. <3
Hi loved this Deb! It made me think of how many “locked doors” I have that I might not even be aware of unless I search my heart. Thanks you!
Deb, this post resonated with me. I know there are places in my heart that I have not fully yielded over to him. I tend to put up walls and self protect. I know He has so much more to teach me about giving my heart freely to Him.
This is incredibly powerful. Even the most devout among us tend to have locked doors, even without intending to or even being aware of it. How good our God is, beckoning us to surrender all to Him, as the old hymn says. Thank you for being an important part of our community at Grace & Truth!
