The Purpose And The Promise Of The Ultimate Wedding
Do you love weddings? Many of us love the beauty of the celebration and festivities but…
It’s easy to get caught up in the presentation and neglect the purpose and the promise.
Most theologians believe that Psalm 45 was written for King Solomon’s wedding. However, over the years it has come to be known as the Messianic Psalm . . . a prophecy of the marriage of Christ Jesus to His chosen Bride, the Church.
As beautiful as weddings are, I can only begin to imagine the glorious magnificence of the heavenly marriage between Jesus and those who SEEK, KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST Him. Just the thought of that moment overwhelms me.
But this Psalm doesn’t talk about the impressiveness of the celebration it focuses on the purpose and the promise of the Bride and Groom.
Let’s take a look…
God Himself has blessed you forever.
In your majesty, ride out to victory,
defending truth, humility, and justice.
Go forth to perform awe-inspiring deeds! You love justice and hate evil.
Listen to me, O royal daughter; take to heart what I say.
Psalm 45:2b, 4, 7a, 10–11
Forget your people and your family far away.
For your royal husband delights in your beauty;
honor Him, for He is your lord.
The Father created you and me out of love—to love and to be loved. We have been created for an everlasting relationship with the King of kings and Lord of lords.
Can you imagine…
For your Creator will be your husband;
Isaiah 54:5
the Lord of Heaven’s Armies is His name!
He is your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel,
the God of all the earth.
This Psalm has started me thinking about making wedding preparations. Most of us spend many months on wedding planning. We book the church and the hall. We invite our friends and we say “yes” to the dress. We choose the people who will stand beside us and the music that will be played.
And if we’re wise we spend time getting to really know the person to whom we are promising the rest of our lives.
And that needs to be the goal for the Bride of Christ.
The Father has taken care of details of the ceremony . . . it’s just our job to get to know the Groom. Our time here on earth is to be spent getting to know, love, and trust Jesus.
He declared, “I AM the Messiah.” (John 4:26)
And… “I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life,” (John 14:6)
“I came to give life—life in all its fullness.” (John 10:10 NCV)
I want to KNOW, TRUST, and LOVE the Messiah who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. I want to enjoy the fullness of life He wants for me. I want to live with the confidence that His love is so great I can surrender myself completely to Him in love.
I believe that what He wants for me. In fact, I believe it’s what He wants for you, too.
Let’s pray…
A Prayer to Focus on the Purpose
and the Promise of the Ultimate Wedding
Father, it is humbling to think that You created me because You chose me. You wanted me.
You created me to be loved by You and to love You and others. It’s so very easy for me to get caught up in the trappings of life. It’s easy to be swayed by power, popularity, and possessions. I’m guilty of being distracted by the opinions of others and the allure of temptation. I’m truly sorry. Please forgive me.
You have promised that when I focus my heart and mind on You, on Your love and Your kingdom, I will have everything I need. I want to focus my heart on living for Your purposes and fill my life with Your perfect and unfailing promises.
I want to center every part of my life on Jesus, my Redeemer. By Your grace and with Your help, I will hold Your promises close to my heart as I anticipate the day that I will join all who KNOW, TRUST, and LOVE You . . . the day I will walk as part of the Bride toward the Bridegroom having given my all through the covenant that never fails and will never end.
Thank you, Lord. All of this is an undeserved gift from You. And I will forever thank and praise You for You alone are forever and always worthy. Amen.
Do you remember the anticipation and excitement you felt about your own wedding or the wedding of someone close to you? Look at what John wrote about the vision God promised about the ultimate wedding He is preparing for us…
I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband.
Revelation 21:2–5
Then I heard a loud voice from the throne: Look, God’s dwelling is with humanity, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and will be their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; grief, crying, and pain will be no more, because the previous things have passed away.
Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new.” He also said, “Write, because these words are faithful and true.”
That’s something to celebrate and share. I can only begin to imagine what that day will be like. So, as we wait with anticipation, may we intentionally learn more about the Bridegroom intentionally focused on the purpose and the promise of the ultimate wedding.
God be with you and bless you as you live today confident that you can completely surrender yourself to the One who loves you so much He gave His life to make you His own.
We would love to pray for you.

Especially lately, I think of Heaven as a restoration of Eden. Enjoying that same relationship that Adam had with God, walking and talking with Him in the breeze of the day. But even more than that, I wish, I want all the words of Scripture to be living and real to me. I want that kind of relationship with Jesus when short of touching Him, I’d know with a certainty that He’s standing next to me. When I could love Him with the same intensity as He loves me. To have that burning desire in my heart toward Him as David had for God. That commitment as Daniel. The faith of Joshua. And the trust of Elisha. To be called by God of His friend as He called Abraham. I believe that all these characters are included in the Word not only to learn from their stumbles, failures and sins, but even more so to learn of their relationships to the Lord. This is my prayer not only for myself, my loved ones, but for all.
Beautifully said, Gaby! You spoke the yearnings of my heart also. God bless you and the yearning faith, that I see growing in your heart. May we all grow and prepare for the Great Wedding to come!
This truly is beautiful, Gaby! Oh, that we might set our hearts and minds on the relationship and all that the Lord is preparing for those who KNOW, TRUST, and LOVE Him. Thank you for giving us that heart blessing word picture of our forever future. God’s blessings!
Oh Deb, I so needed this, this morning. I feel such a sense of urgency to be truly preparing, and yet, I pray for HIM, the Bridegroom, to please come soon…I pray to bring more guests, to the Wedding Feast of the Lord.
When I think of how much effort is put into preparing for a wedding that lasts for a day – may we focus intentionally on preparing for our forever future with the One who loves us most and best. God’s richest blessings!
May we spend our days getting to know our Bridegroom intimately, seeking and finding Him in every facet of our lives.
Blessings, Deb!
Amen, Martha! God’s blessings!
