Know the Truth of the Bible from the Shortest Chapter
Have you ever memorized a whole chapter of the Bible?
Would you like to? How about the shortest chapter?
Psalm 117 is only two verses long…
Praise the Lord, all you nations.
Psalm 117
Praise Him, all you people of the earth.
For His unfailing love for us is powerful;
the Lord’s faithfulness endures forever.
Praise the Lord!
Not only is this the shortest chapter of the Bible, it is in the center of the Bible. There are 594 chapters before it and 594 chapters after it.
I don’t think there’s any real significance to those details but they are fun facts to know.
The thing I love most about Psalm 117 is that right there in the middle of the Bible is the clear statement of who God is…
His unfailing love is powerful.
The Lord passed in front of Moses, calling out,
Exodus 34:6–7a
“Yahweh! The Lord!
The God of compassion and mercy!
I am slow to anger
and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.
I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations.
I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin.
For thousands of generations, God has demonstrated His unfailing love. He created a beautiful world without sin and gave His Son to save that world when the people He created chose sin and rebellion over trust and obedience.
John wrote…
From His abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another. For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.
John 1:16–17
His faithfulness endures forever.
The faithful love of the Lord never ends!
Lamentations 3:22–23
His mercies never cease.
Great is His faithfulness;
His mercies begin afresh each morning.
I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance;
therefore, I will hope in him!”
Jeremiah trusted God to keep His promises. Based on past experience he believed he could rely on the truth that God’s steadfast love and mercy are greater than our sins.
We know that God kept His promises in the past…
So the Word became human and made His home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen His glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.
John 1:14
And we can trust Him to keep them in the future.
Paul wrote…
We are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for Him to return as our Savior. He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like His own, using the same power with which He will bring everything under His control.
Philippians 3:20–21
So…
Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise.
Hebrews 10:23
What do you think? Are you ready to memorize a whole chapter of the Bible? What about memorizing a chapter that will help you share the truth of the Bible—the message of God’s unfailing love and faithfulness?
He is Creator – Savior – Spirit of Truth! May we praise Him and live for His glory.
Let’s pray…
A Prayer Based on the Shortest Chapter of the Bible
Father, I praise You! You are full of unfailing love and faithfulness. Your mercies never fail. Your grace gives me strength. Your presence gives me peace. You alone are worthy of all my worship and praise.
You are my Creator and Savior. You are the Spirit who gives me faith and hope … the One who fills my life with love. You have graciously shown Your love to thousands of generations offering forgiveness and freedom to all who come to You in repentance and faith.
I thank and praise You for the gift of Jesus … Your love is so great that You gave Your only Son to give me LIFE. Through Him, I have the blessing of an abundant life now and the promise of life with You forever.
If You never did another thing for me in my life, You are and forever will be worthy of all thanks and praise. Your love is incomprehensible, everlasting, unfailing, faithful, and true. Your love is patient, kind, and unconditional. Your love fills my life with all I need forever and always. Amen.
Pastor Todd White wrote…
“God spared my life not so that I could live for me but so that I could just give everything to Him. You know, God’s not asking for much. He’s asking you to give up something you were never created to be so that you can become who He says you are. It’s really not that much. I mean, Mercy woke us up today so that Love gave us one more day to manifest Him and not us.”
May we hold these words close to our hearts…
I will exalt You, my God and King,
Psalm 145:1–3
and praise Your name forever and ever.
I will praise You every day;
yes, I will praise You forever.
Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise!
No one can measure His greatness.
Because…
The Lord our God is worthy of all our praise.
What do you say? Let’s memorize the shortest chapter in the center of the Bible and prepare our hearts to tell the world of His unfailing love and faithfulness.

I’m ready to memorize this one, Deb. Thank you!
God bless you always!
Thank you, Martha! Blessings and hugs!
Wow I never knew that was the middle of the Bible. I definitely will give it a try to memorize this, Psalm. It very much describes who God is. Thank you so much for the other related scriptures as well. I love reading your posts even if I don’t always respond. It gives this old heart of mine faith to carry on.
Thank you, Marilyn. I’m glad it encouraged you! I truly appreciate your kind words of encouragement. Blessings and hugs!
What an uplifting and “rejoicing of the heart” post today! I could shout my love, devotion, and thanksgiving from the rooftop! Oh if only everyone could know and truly feel the joy in rejoicing our great and mighty LORD! And the last paragraph of your prayer says it all! God is all we ever need! If only all nations would praise HIM. There are approximately 360 million people in 60 countries who are being persecuted because they love God! The only “Perfect” we can ever know here on earth and they are tortured, killed and in-prisoned if they are found with a Bible or known to worship God. Some countries are even installing cameras in homes, monitor their computers, phones, etc., have people befriend them, so they can report them. Pay people to turn neighbors and friends in, if they know of any who profess Christianity. We that are free to sing and shout God’s love, should indeed be shouting it out from all our rooftops! PRAISE YE, THE LORD! PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME!
Yes, Kathy! Praise The Lord!! Even when we face persecution we are surrounded by His grace and love. May we thank and praise Him boldly every day that He gives here and then forever and always together in His presence. God’s blessings, my friend!
Deb that is a truly powerful chapter, thank you for sharing your thoughts on this with us.
It is funny how God has led me to this email of yours after the one I read yesterday, though sent by you some days apart they follow through perfectly when reading about His Love for us. How wonderful our Heavenly Father is.
May He greatly bless you, Rev & Sadie in the name of Jesus.
❤️ Mary
Thanks, Mary! I love when the Lord shows us a new truth in a verse or two that we’ve read many times before. It always reminds me just what a loving Father He truly is. Many blessings!
