What Do You Need To Be Satisfied Now?

The world tells us that enough is always just a little bit more. What do you need to be satisfied? We're taking a closer look at the blessing of satisfaction and it may not be as elusive as we think.

How much is enough?

What do you need to be satisfied?

Are you satisfied with your relationships? Your finances? Your car? House? Wardrobe? Vacations?

Are you satisfied or do you believe the old saying…

How many times have you thought…

  • I’ll be satisfied when __________ happens.
  • I’ll be happy when I finally get __________.
  • If only __________, then I’ll be happy.
  • I’ll be able to relax when I finally accomplish __________.
  • I need to accomplish __________ then I’ll be content.
  • If my kids would stop doing __________ I could stop worrying.

I hate to admit it but I believe I’m guilty of saying, or at least thinking, a few of those “if only” statements myself.

Marketers everywhere make it a goal to create dissatisfied customers. Right?! How can they convince us that we need their “new” and “better” products if we’re satisfied without them?

Satan’s first recorded temptation lured Eve and Adam to doubt God and deny their perfectly satisfied lives persuading them to take the one thing God had withheld … something He knew would harm them.

But the Lord God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden—except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”

Satan created doubt…

“Did God really say..? You won’t die… You will be like God.”

Genesis 2:16–17

And the enemy of our souls hasn’t changed his tactics. He still plants seeds of doubt and dissatisfaction wanting us to believe that God is holding out on us.

I’ve realized how foolish it is for me to think that my Heavenly Father would hold out on us. He gave His one and only Son to live in this sinful world and suffer and die for my sins and yours.

And that Son, Jesus, told us the following truths about the Father…

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and He will give you everything you need.”

Luke 12:31

“All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.

John 14:23

“Don’t worry … your Heavenly Father already knows all your needs.”

Matthew 6:31–32

And generations before Jesus came, David wrote…

For He satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul He fills with good things.

Psalm 107:9 (ESV)

Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 37:4

And the writer of Hebrews said…

Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said,
“I will never fail you.
    I will never abandon you.”

Hebrews 13:5

So what’s the message for people, like us, who want to be satisfied?

Choose the voices we listen to carefully! Identify the enemy’s voice at work through the world and our sinful natures as he tempts us to doubt God. And then KNOW the Spirit’s voice assuring us of God’s parental love and desire to give us what He knows is best for us.

It’s hard. We don’t know the future our Father knows; so, it’s easy for us to disagree with His best in the moment. But when we trust His love and character and focus on Him with faith … we can enjoy His blessings of peace, hope, and contentment.

The world tells us that enough is always just a little bit more. What do you need to be satisfied? We're taking a closer look at the blessing of satisfaction and it may not be as elusive as we think.

Let’s pray.

A Prayer to Trust God and Be Satisfied

Father, thank you for giving us Your Word and Spirit making it possible for us to KNOW Your character and instructions. Thank you for allowing us to KNOW Your unfailing covenant promises.

Thank you for Jesus who showed us Your grace, mercy, and love. Thank you for the many truths He shared making it possible for us to live satisfied today and forever.

He said, “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” (John 10:10) And, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and He will give you everything you need. So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.” (Luke 12:31–32)

You lovingly know my needs and provide them. You promise that when I focus my heart and mind on Jesus and surrender my life to You … You will give me everything I need. And when I have everything You know I need … I have what I need to be satisfied.

So, I praise You for knowing and loving me. Please forgive me for the times I long for what the world says I need, rather than trusting Your love to provide what You know I need eternally.

I’ll close with Moses’ prayer … “Satisfy [me] each morning with Your unfailing love, so [I] may sing for joy to the end of [my life]. Psalm 90:14. Amen.

The world tells us that enough is always just a little bit more. What do you need to be satisfied? We're taking a closer look at the blessing of satisfaction and it may not be as elusive as we think.

C. S. Lewis wrote…

“If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.”

Our Creator formed us to need a relationship with Him and we will never be satisfied until He becomes the source of our satisfaction.

The truth is, the very best this world has to offer is only temporary satisfaction.

But God…

God wants us to be satisfied in Him and that satisfaction gives us peace, joy, contentment, and everything else we need today, tomorrow, and always.

May you be satisfied by the One who loves you most and best—today, tomorrow, and forever.

We would love to pray for you.

Only in knowing God and His will for us will we ever find true satisfaction.

  3. Kathy Francescon says:

The older I get, the less I care about “stuff.” Everything here on earth, no matter how big, how beautiful, how luxurious, no matter how little or how much it costs, it’s all just stuff! As you said, Deb, “temporary!” I am setting my treasures in Heaven! God is the only “Forever” that is possible!
Outside of God’s Will, there is nothing I want. Inside of God’s Will, I have all I need. Blessings dear friend! I am decluttering daily!

    !

    1. You’re right, Kathy! Sometimes it’s stressful just trying to figure out what to do with the stuff. I really have reached that point in life when, by God’s grace, I realize that nothing besides Jesus matters. It makes me think of Psalm 23 – “The Lord is my Shepherd. I have everything I need.” Blessings and hugs, dear friend!
