Sometimes when busyness gets in the way you and I need God's help to remember to just be still and listen for His quiet voice to fill us with His peace. #God'speace #BestillandKnow #TrustGod #Prayer #Hope #WWGGG #CountingMyBlessings

I’ve had a few times in my life when I’ve felt God’s voice loud and clear.

Like the time He challenged my grumbling or the time He gave me a word of love for a specific person as I was driving to a speaking engagement.

There was also the time that completely changed my view of things — all I could think about was the pain and loss when His tender Spirit whispered, “You have no idea what I’ve spared you from!”

But oh, how I would love to listen better. Kira’s post, from the other day, made me think about my need to do a better job of listening. Especially at this busiest times of the year, when I can so easily get caught up in all the doing that I fail to focus on the reason for all the doing.

So today, I’d like you to join me to stop for a moment to just be still and listen. To pray with me and wait quietly for His voice to fill us with all we need for the rest of this year and beyond.

Psalm 62:5–6

Let all that I am wait quietly before God,
for my hope is in Him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress where I will not be shaken.

Father, it’s so hard to wait and even harder to wait quietly. I want to complain. I want what I want and I want it now! Forgive me. I’m behind with all the things I need to do but right now at this moment what I need more than anything is time with You. I need Your promises of hope. I need to remember who You are and all You’ve done. I need to be still and listen, to remember that You are my Savior, my place of safety, my unshakable foundation. Thank you! Please guide me this day and where You lead with Your Spirit’s help, I will follow. Amen.

John 10:27

My sheep listen to my voice;
I know them, and they follow me.

Lord, forgive me for the ways I let other voices distract me. The truth is … my own voice distracts me. My thoughts run in circles making deepening ruts as they tread the same ground again and again. Here I am, Lord. I need Your voice to help me quiet the craziness. I need Your truth and wisdom. Thank you for the many ways You assure me that I am Yours. You know me … nothing can change that. My heart’s desire is to obediently follow wherever You lead. Speak to me, Lord. I will listen and follow. Amen.

Psalm 37:7a, 23–24

Be still in the presence of the Lord,
and wait patiently for Him to act.
The Lord directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives.
Though they stumble, they will never fall,
for the Lord holds them by the hand.

Father, here I am — quiet and still in Your presence. Watching and waiting for Your direction. I love this promise … You “delight in every detail of my life.” You know everything about me. You know my weaknesses and You are aware of every stumble. Yet, by Your grace, You will not let me fall. Your hand is always there to help me and hold me. You faithfully forgive my foolish and distracted busyness and consistently call me back into Your holy presence where Your love surrounds me. Oh, how I thank and praise You! Amen.

John 14:26

But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.

Oh, Holy Trinity – Father, Son, and Spirit, thank you! Father, I am awed by the love You showed us in Your plan to redeem us. Jesus, I am overwhelmed that You would willingly sacrifice everything for me. Spirit, I am so thankful for the ways You draw these truths to my mind each day. My God how I love you and thank you for Your blessings. Amen.

Psalm 25:4–5

Show me the right path, O Lord;
point out the road for me to follow.
Lead me by Your truth and teach me,
for You are the God who saves me.
All day long I put my hope in You.

Father, I may not finish my to-do list today but by Your grace, may I accomplish Your list. May I follow Your path and fulfill each task You assign. By the power of Your Spirit, teach me. Lead me. Help me listen as You lovingly call me back into Your sweet presence … where we can sit and talk or maybe for a few moments, just be still in each other’s presence. I love You, my hope, my Redeemer, my all. In Jesus name, Amen.

Wow! This post really spoke to me, as if the Lord sent this to me through you, however this was posted in 2017, and yet He can do everything. I read your posts often and truly enjoy them. This came through when I have been praying to hear His voice more clearly, thank you and God Bless

  16. Hello Deb. I love these. Thank you for harvesting and throwing out these seeds. (Can you tell I just started gardening?) I will write them on 5 of the squares of the rag quilt I’m making for my son. He’s a cross country trucker and I find comfort to think of him wrapped him in God’s word when he lays down his head. 1-2-2023

    1. I love that, Pat! What a wonderful way to surround him with your love and God’s. Thanks so much for visiting and for sharing this wonderful tip. God bless you!

  17. Hi there. I’m reading the post for Psalm 37: 7a, 23-24 but this is not in my Bible.
I have the New International Version.
Psalm 37:7 (there is no 7a) says Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; (and then the rest of the scripture does not align with the rest of what you wrote)
Could you please help direct me so I can better understand?
    Thanks so much
    Dallas~

    1. Hi, Dallas. Thank you for visiting and for taking the time to ask. Unless I mark the translation, all of the Scripture verses I quote come from the New Living Translation. From Psalm 37 I quoted the first two lines of verse 7 and then jumped down and added verses 23 and 24. I wanted to focus on the faith David was reminding us that we can have in who God is and all He does in spite of the chaos that goes on around us. David ran to God in the midst of crisis, chaos, and confusion. I’m so thankful that we can too. Thanks again for visiting and for adding to our conversation. God bless you!

      1. Good morning. ☀️
        Thank you for clarifying.
Have a very blessed day 🙂
