5 Verses to Pray for the Blessing of Lasting Love

Hi Friends, it is hard for me to find the words right now … Rev’s struggle with ALS is over and he is safely in the arms of Jesus. I am so very thankful for the lasting love I have shared with this wonderful man.

I write my posts in advance, so you will still hear from me in the days ahead. But please be patient if I’m unable to respond to your comments as quickly as I’d like.

You are all so dear to me. Please keep our family in your prayers. My heart is broken and I’m feeling overwhelmed. I know the Lord is with us and we are leaning into Him every moment of every day.

We all want the blessing of lasting love but we know that not all loving relationships last forever. There is one perfect example of unfailing love that lasts & that's God. He is the source of love.

The Bible tells us that God’s love never fails and lasts forever. It tells us that not only is God the source of love but that He is LOVE. (1 John 4:8)

Just a few verses later John added…

We love each other because He loved us first.

1 John 4:19

If we want to be blessed with lasting love here and now, we must begin with God.

Why? Because God’s love is eternal. And when His love is shared between people who KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST Him, it not only lasts throughout our earthly lives … it lasts throughout our eternal lives.

That really is love that lasts forever.

We all want the blessing of lasting love but we know that not all loving relationships last forever. There is one perfect example of unfailing love that lasts & that's God. He is the source of love.

Let’s pray today and ask God to help us faithfully share His lasting love with the people He has graciously placed around us…

Verses to Pray for the Blessing of Lasting Love

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Father, You are the Giver of strength and courage. You encourage me with faith, hope, and love. Your Word and Spirit encourage me to live according to Your will and follow the path You have prepared for me. Thank you!

I pray and ask that You will help me take the encouragement that You have given to me and willingly and lovingly share it with the people You place in my life. I want to encourage them with words, actions, and attitudes. I want them to see Your love in me. I want to be someone who encourages love that begins here and lasts forever and always. Amen.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Galatians 5:22–23

Father, forgive me. I know I don’t love well on my own. I need Your help. I need Your Spirit with me and within me. I need help to live with joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I need help to love as You desire.

On my own, I am selfish and critical. I am impatient and irritable. And I am inconsistent with gentleness and self-control. I want to be faithful, good, and kind but Lord, I fall short every single day. I sin against You and the people I love. I’m so sorry and ask for Your forgiveness and Your help to love as You desire. Amen.

Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.

Ephsians 4:2–3

Yes, Father, I want to be humble and gentle so that I might use the freedom I have in Christ Jesus to serve well the people You have given me to love. I want to be humble and gentle so that I might remain mindful of my need for patience and therefore, patiently love even when it’s hard. I want to forgive the way I have been forgiven by You.

I want to love like Jesus. I want to work for peace as He instructed. I want to live each day with the peace that passes understanding. Please give me everything I need to love the way You desire, to love the way Jesus demonstrated, to love the way the Spirit leads. Amen.

We all want the blessing of lasting love but we know that not all loving relationships last forever. There is one perfect example of unfailing love that lasts & that's God. He is the source of love.

Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.

1 Peter 4:8

Father, Your love sent Jesus to suffer the punishment for my sins. Jesus’ love made Him willing to suffer my punishment. Your love and His sacrifice completely cover the multitude of my sins.

Please help me forgive as I have been forgiven. Help me love as You love me. Help me look beyond the surface to the hearts of the people closest to me. Help me see You in them. Help me shine the light of Your love for Your glory. Amen.

Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with love.

1 Corinthians 16:13–14

Heavenly Father, It’s not always easy to love. Sometimes we get hurt. Selfishness and pride get in the way of perfect love and occasionally we suffer the pain of rejection. By the power of Your Spirit, please give me relationship wisdom and discernment so that I might love as You desire even when people don’t treat me as I desire.

Please help me keep my focus on You to remain strong and courageous in all situations and circumstances. And Lord, no matter what is going on around me, please help me do everything with love. Please, Lord, love people through me. Help us so that we might enjoy lasting love not only with You but with one another. I praise You and thank You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

We all know that lasting love takes intentional effort from both individuals.

God gives people free will. His love is perfect and unfailing but He gives us the freedom to be embraced in His love or reject it.

It’s the same with all our relationships. We can try to love sacrificially and give it our complete attention and effort but people still have the freedom to love in return or not.

So…

What do we do?

  1. We love the Lord above everything and everyone else in our lives.
  2. We pray for His love to flow through us always.
  3. We encourage the people we love to love the Lord.
  4. We ask Him to bless our relationships with His love.

And we apply these powerful words of C. S. Lewis…

“Love as distinct from “being in love” is not merely a feeling. It is a deep unity, maintained by the will and deliberately strengthened by habit; reinforced by the grace which both partners ask, and receive from God. They can have this love for each other even at those moments when they do not like each other; as you love yourself even when you do not like yourself.”

May the Lord bless you and fill your life with beautiful relationships and lasting love.

We would love to pray for you.

  25. Sanna Teer says:

My deepest sympathy on the death of your dear husband.

My husband of 43 years died two years ago. I had been reading in the Psalms and noticed how often God said he is close to the broken hearted, he heals the broken hearted, he is near to the broken hearted, so my daily prayer became, Please heal my broken heart. I have prayed that every morning since my love died and two years later I’m stunned at how faithful God has been in answering that prayer. I still love and miss my husband, but the anguish has eased so much–more than I ever would have believed possible You will grieve in your own way and on your own schedule, but be comforted that God still loves you, is still faithful and that your man is now perfectly at home with the Savior. My love to you dear sister in Christ.

Deb, very sad to hear of Rev’s death, I pray you and your family are able to grieve well taking time to talk , cry and laugh together it’s so important, don’t try to be to strong for everyone else, let those close to you know you need hugs and there time too, do not think everyone is too busy to take time for you and that you are not important enough because you are. It’s hard not to try and hold it all together for everyone else thinking they need your support, and of course you all need to support and encourage each other whilst, sobbing and laughing a lot too whilst you remember the good times that’s very important too.
Take care of yourself. Lots of love to you and all your family, blessings to you all and many hugs , I shall be praying for you and your family , Mary 🥰❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
