Jesus Knows The Complete Truth About Your Life
Have you ever avoided people because you don’t want to discuss the complete truth about your life? Are there details that shame you? Are you concerned that if people knew everything about you, they would ridicule and reject you?
Welcome to the world of the Samaritan woman at the well who talked with Jesus!
No, maybe your story isn’t exactly like hers but here is the part of her story we know…
“Go and get your husband,” Jesus told her.
“I don’t have a husband,” the woman replied.
Jesus said, “You’re right! You don’t have a husband— for you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now. You certainly spoke the truth!”
John 4:16-18
You may not have had multiple husbands but I’ll bet you’ve made other less-than-wise choices. (I thought about making a list of reasons we avoid people to hide our faults but it quickly became too long.) You and I prefer to keep the complete truth about our lives locked away and out of view.
The Good News from this woman’s interaction with Jesus is realizing that He knows everything and still seeks us out because He wants a relationship with us.
I believe that’s why John was inspired to share this encounter.
Tradition tells us that this woman came to the well in the middle of the day to avoid the morning and evening crowds. Like you and me she didn’t want to face her neighbors’ ridicule and rejection.
But Jesus knew the complete truth about her and chose that specific time of day to meet with her—without ridicule or rejection, Jesus showed her kindness and compassion.
Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.”
The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said to Jesus, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?”
Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.”
John 4:7, 9–10, 13–14
“Anyone who drinks this water [from the well] will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”
She quickly responded and asked Jesus to give her this “Living Water” and that’s when He invited her to get the husband He knew she didn’t have.
It’s true! Jesus knows the complete truth about your life and mine; the well-known public parts and the uncomfortable parts we want to hide. Yet, because of His compassion and gracious love, He invites us to face them, confess them to Him, and receive the water that gives eternal life.
We may want to appear “good” to people but true faith isn’t about how we look it’s about KNOWing and LOVING Jesus, who knows everything about us and says…
Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Matthew 11:28–30
I want the yoke that is easy to bear because the Savior is carrying it with me. I want a restful and peaceful heart knowing I am loved and forgiven. I want the “Living Water” that comes from Jesus and leads to eternal life with Him.
Let’s pray…
A Prayer Thanking God for Loving Us
After Knowing the Complete Truth About Us
Father, David wrote that You made me and know everything about me. That means you know my obedient moments and my disobedient failures. You know my words and actions and the motives behind them.
Your Word tells me You know the complete truth about me and still want a personal relationship with me. Thank you for loving sinners, like me.
My sins may not be exactly like the Samaritan woman’s, but they are still sins for which I deserve Your punishment. Jesus said that He came to “seek and save the lost.” And He not only said it, He demonstrated it.
He sought out sinners and told them about Your grace, mercy, and unfailing love. He opened Himself to ridicule and rejection though He didn’t deserve it. And He willingly gave Himself to horrendous suffering and death making forgiveness and salvation possible.
I thank and praise You! Because of Jesus, I humbly come before You in complete honesty trusting that You will keep Your promise to wash away my sins and set me free. He made it possible for me to repent and surrender my guilt and shame at the foot of the cross.
By Your grace, I’m free to share my life with others and invite them to experience the forgiveness and freedom You offer. Thank you for Jesus who offers the Living Water that leads to a free and lasting life. Amen.
I think this quote from A. W. Tozer says it perfectly…
“Jesus Christ knows the worst about you. Nonetheless, He is the One who loves you most.”
Those are words to remember especially when the enemy tries to taunt us with our weaknesses and failures. Whatever the complete truth about your life or mine … Jesus knows, loves, and gave His life to give us “Living Water” because He wants us with Him throughout the life that lasts forever!
We would love to pray for you.

I love this post today. It is such a reminder of who we are and who we are to Jesus. I have done things in my life that I am not proud of at all and made decisions that were not in my best interest. Things that I would never want to do again. The good thing is that I learned from these mistakes and bad decisions. The most important thing I learned is Jesus loves me anyway!!! He loves me so much and HE wants a relationship with me. I love the quote from A W Tozer. It is so very true. ‘Jesus loves me, this I know.”
The story of the Samaritan woman is one of my favorites in the Bible. Jesus had the longest conversation with her than with any other woman we know about. And He deliberately went out of the way on his journey so He could have that conversation.
Matthew 11: 28-30 has helped me through a lot of things I have gone through. It is such a source of encouragement and strength to me, especially when I have felt so defeated. I am so grateful for my relationship with Jesus.
Thank you so much for this beautiful and meaningful post today.
Have a beautiful weekend, sweet friend.
Hallelujah and Amen Deb and Sue❣️
Oh, how I needed this reminder today, Deb! Sometimes, I feel so unworthy and worn out, but I need to remember the Living Water that only Jesus can give me, and He loves me in spite of my sins. Have a blessed weekend!
