5 Helpful Evening Prayers To Peacefully End The Day
Last Friday’s prayer post gave us 5 verses to prayerfully start the day with hope and today we’re focusing on our evening prayers…
I’ve learned that as thankful as I am for the blessing of a fresh start each morning and hopeful about the day ahead, I’m well aware at the end of the day that things didn’t go the way I intended.
That’s just one of the blessings of praying without ceasing.
David wrote…
O Lord, You have examined my heart
Psalm 139:1–2
and know everything about me.
You know when I sit down or stand up.
You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
The Lord is with us through each day and knows our triumphs and failures. He knows everything about us. He relates to our struggles and weaknesses because He was “tempted in every way that we are, but He did not sin.”
After experiencing God’s overwhelming love, Paul wrote…
God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love that He had for us, made us alive with Christ even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace!
Philippians 2:4–5
And John wrote…
But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
1 John 1:9
So, let’s take our evening prayers to the Lord thanking Him for the day’s blessings, asking Him to forgive the day’s weaknesses and failures, grant us a peaceful night, and help us get up tomorrow with a heart full of hope…
5 Evening Prayers To Peacefully End The Day
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence,
Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)
so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Father, thank you for inviting me to come to You with the details of my life. You know the big and small, important and unimportant, and want me to discuss everything with You because You love me. Your Word tells me You want me to count my blessings, celebrate my victories, and confess my faults.
I humbly come to You with evening prayers asking You to cover my day with Your mercy and grace. I thank and praise You for blessing my day with __________. Thank you for giving me victory over __________. And please forgive me for __________.
I give myself to You in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Psalm 139:23–24
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends You,
and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
Father, You know me better than I know myself. I’m guilty of misunderstanding and making excuses. I’m guilty of comparing myself to flawed people rather than Your perfection. I fret over sins You’ve already forgiven and ignore offenses I’ve grown comfortable repeating.
By the power of Your Spirit, guide me according to Your will. Lay upon my heart the things that offend You and give me the strength and courage to follow You in obedience. Amen.
My help comes from the Lord,
Psalm 121:2–3 (ESV)
who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
Father, thank you for hearing my prayers and answering my cries for help. You are the Creator of everything. You purposely created me for this time and place in history. You have plans and purposes for me and with Your help, I want to accomplish all You desire.
I love these words written by Hezekiah. Based on who he knew You to be and all You had done for Your people, he proclaimed the confidence and hope He had in Your care and protection.
When my heart and mind are focused on You, I am safe from stumbling. Day or night I am safe in Your care. You are with me and my soul is safe as I follow You along the path of life. Amen.
Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.
1 Peter 5:7
Father, I’m worried about __________. I’ve tried so hard to give this concern to You but the enemy taunts and tempts me with what-ifs and I continue to feel anxious about what lies ahead.
Please forgive me. I can relate to the father who said, “Lord, I believe. Help me overcome my unbelief.” Or all the times You said to Your disciples, “You have so little faith!”
Please help me hold Your promises close to my heart. Help me remember that You are not only loving and caring but You are LOVE itself. Help me lay my all before You and trust You to faithfully fill my life with all that You know is best for my today and especially for my eternal future. Amen.
You will keep in perfect peace
Isaiah 26:3
all who trust in You,
all whose thoughts are fixed on You!
Father, You promise that when I trust and love You with my heart, soul, mind, and strength … You will give me peace through chaos. When I remember that in a constantly changing world, You alone are unchanging … I can rest in Your presence.
Tonight, I ask You to fill my thoughts with Your Word. Remind me of Your love. Guard my heart and my home and grant me Your peace. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Andrew Murray said…
“Do not strive in your own strength; cast yourself at the feet of the Lord Jesus, and wait upon Him in the sure confidence that He is with you, and works in you. Strive in prayer; let faith fill your heart so will you be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.”
Pray is placing ourselves at Jesus’ feet in faith trusting that the Lord of all creation is strong enough and powerful enough to help us and give us whatever we need.
We have been invited to give God the blessings and challenges of our day. So, may we faithfully thank Him for His help and protection, ask Him to grant us a peaceful and safe night, and trust Him to give us everything we need tomorrow.
By His grace and for His glory. Amen!
We would love to pray for you.
