Have Strong Faith & Trust God To Give Good Gifts
Jesus said…
So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask Him.
Matthew 7:11
But what does it mean that God gives good gifts?
We know it’s not like making a list of things we want expecting to find them under the Christmas tree. We also know life isn’t all cupcakes and butterflies.
Jesus also said…
In this world, you will have trouble.
John 16:33
It’s a conundrum, isn’t it?
You and I list what we want in life and ask God to help and provide but when we look around, we see that lists don’t always get checked off as we prefer … even for those who love God.
So, how are we supposed to understand Jesus’ words when life doesn’t meet our expectations and we don’t get the gifts and blessings we want?
We begin by trusting God’s love.
Did you ever ask your parents for something that wasn’t safe or good for you? Have your children ever asked you?
Of course!
Love means sometimes saying “no” even though we know it will be hard to hear. We love our children and if we have to say “no” we want them to trust that it comes from a place of love even when they don’t like the answer.
Yet, like all children who want what they want when they want it, most of us can relate to being a foot-stomping tantrum-throwing child when our wants are met with an unwanted “no.” It doesn’t matter how old we are. We may occasionally question God’s loving care and feel sorry for ourselves.
At least it’s happened to me. You too?
That’s why I need to return to God and His Word and cling to the promises of His unfailing love.
Verses to Remember God Gives Good Gifts
♥ Praise God for the wonderful gift of undeserved grace!
God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.
Ephesians 2:8
♥ Praise God for creation, unchanging love, and Word of Truth.
Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. He chose to give birth to us by giving us His true word. And we, out of all creation, became His prized possession.
James 1:17–18
♥ Praise God for loving us so much that He gave His Son, Jesus, so that we might be declared His loved, cared for, protected, and redeemed children.
What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since He did not spare even His own Son but gave Him up for us all, won’t He also give us everything else?
Romans 8:31–32
♥ Praise God for giving us everything we need daily to live His plans and purposes for His glory.
By His divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the one who called us to Himself by means of His marvelous glory and excellence.
1 Peter 1:3
♥ Praise God for working for good in our lives even when we don’t understand.
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.
Romans 8:28
Let’s pray…
A Prayer of Hope and Thanks –
that God will Give Good Gifts
Father, thank you so very much for your good and faithful promises. You promised to send a Savior and did. You sent Your only Son to save us by suffering our punishment.
You promised nothing can separate us from Your love. (Romans 8:38) You promised to never leave me or forsake me. (John 14:6) You promised that I will experience trials and temptations but Jesus has already won the victory and defeated the enemy. (John 16:33)
You promised to give me strength when I am weak and peace when I am anxious. (Psalm 29:11) You promised to guard my heart in Christ Jesus when I come to You in prayer. (Philippians 4:6–7) And You promised I will live with You forever and always in heaven. (John 14:1–3)
Those are just a taste of Your gracious promises. I am undeserving but You LOVE me anyway. You give me good gifts. Not momentary satisfaction or temporary benevolence … You give me the things I need the most now and always—LOVE, WISDOM, FAITH, HOPE, PEACE and so much more.
I trust You with all I am and I thank and praise You in Jesus’ name. Amen.
I’m pausing today to remember how often God has turned my difficult trials into blessings. I’m praising Him for the times He has drawn me close and given me strength and thanking Him for the many times He has delivered me from overwhelming fear, healed my broken heart, and given me the peace that passes understanding.
Whatever you are dealing with today … trust Your Heavenly Father to give you the Good Gifts you need.
