Do you ever feel like darkness is winning? The spiritual battle is real but Jesus the Light has and continues to defeat the darkness around us. #Jesusisthelight #Hopeoftheworld #Blessings

Do you ever feel like the darkness is winning?

  • Sexuality is confused, misused, and abused.
  • Wars and rumors of wars lead our newscasts unless there’s a more titillating scandal to report.
  • Respect for those in leadership seems to be the exception, not the norm.
  • Addiction has filtered into every segment of society.
  • Babies continue to be sacrificed at the altar of self.
  • Terror threatens.
  • The cries of those in need seem to be increasing.

And it’s likely this list doesn’t include your family’s personal struggles.

I wrote those words more than four years ago.

And as I read through that list, it seems like things have only intensified.

The truth is the enemy of our souls wants us to live our lives in one of two ways . . . he either wants us to ignore it all and pretend it’s not happening or he wants to live each day wringing our hands in despair and fear.

But you and I have everything we need to live on the firm foundation of faith in God’s Word of truth. We have His truth about Jesus, the Word made flesh.

In the beginning, the Word already existed.
    The Word was with God,
    and the Word was God.
He existed in the beginning with God.
God created everything through Him,
and nothing was created except through Him.
The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and His life brought light to everyone.
The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.

John 1:1–5

Jesus is the “light” who has defeated the darkness.

When you and I feel overwhelmed or frustrated by the enemy’s “darkness” . . . we have the promise that our Lord and Savior created absolutely everything and nothing is impossible for Him.

The Life Application Bible Notes say:

God created you; He is alive today, and His love is bigger than any problem you may face.

And I added a big “AMEN” in the margin.

Through faith, you and I have Jesus’ all-powerful “light” with and within us to cleanse us from sin and guide us with TRUTH. We don’t need to fear the darkness when we live surrounded by the light of God’s love given to us in and through Jesus.

When the enemy shouts out all the elements of darkness taking place in the world trying to rob you of joy and fill you with fear, remind him of the Savior’s words…

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

John 16:33

Remind the enemy that you KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST the ONE who has already defeated him. You are safe in Jesus!

A Prayer to Know, Trust, and Love
Jesus, the Light, to Defeats Darkness

Father God, thank you for Your love. Thank you for Your grace and mercy. Thank you for making it possible for me to be forgiven. Thank you for allowing me to know, trust, and love You. Thank you for sending Jesus, the Light of the World.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for defeating the enemy . . . for defeating the darkness he brought to the perfect world You created. You want so much more for us. You want us to live with peace, joy, and faithfulness. You want us to overflow with love and compassion. You want us to experience the blessings You have given us . . . things that defeat the enemy’s heavy curtain of darkness.

Thank you, Holy Spirit, for giving me the gift of faith. Thank you for teaching me the truth that I might KNOW, TRUST, and LOVE Jesus. Thank you for helping me when I am discouraged by the darkness and I’m afraid. Thank you for uplifting me with peace and joy.

Lord God, I surrender my life to You. Please give me everything I need today to shine the light of Christ Jesus . . . help me love as He loved and trust and obey Your will. Please help me focus my heart and mind on You no matter what is taking place around me. I love you, Lord. Amen.

When you are discouraged by the darkness today, remember this all-important truth:

THE DARKNESS CAN NOT WIN BECAUSE JESUS, THE LIGHT, HAS ALREADY WON!

The prophet Ezra wrote that David praised the Lord with these words:

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things.

1 Chronicles 29:11

Jesus came and suffered our punishment to defeat sin, death, and the power of the enemy. We don’t have to live in fear. Jesus, the Light of the World, has come before and He will come again.

May He be with you today and fill you with faith, hope, and love.
