Jesus told His followers to SEEK the Kingdom of God above everything else. What did He mean? What is the Kingdom of God? Join us to learn more about God's Kingdom and what we need to do to SEEK it.

The Bible tells us…

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and He will give you everything you need.

Luke 12:31

I wear two Italian charm bracelets every day.

One reminds me to…

And the other reminds me that the One I am to SEEK FIRST is JESUS…

He is the Alpha and Omega, my Savior.

These bracelets are my constant reminder that whatever is going on in my life I need Jesus more than anything!

But Jesus said we should SEEK the Kingdom above all else. So, I wanted to take a closer look at what it means to SEEK the Kingdom of God.

The best explanation I found is that it means we are to make the things God says are most important to Him—the things that are most important to us.

Why? Why is it important for us to spend time getting to know the things God says are important?

Because when we SEEK what God wants First. When we spend time truly getting to KNOW Him. His Spirit will work in us and help us TRUST, LOVE, and want to OBEY Him. And God knows that is what’s best for us today, tomorrow, and eternally.

He knows that when we KNOW, TRUST, LOVE, and OBEY Him we will have everything we need.

Jesus gave us this promise…

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.”

Luke 12:31–32

David knew the blessing of SEEKing the Lord…

Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;
let those who love Your salvation
continually say, “God is great!”

Psalm 70:4 (CSB)

David personally experienced God’s greatness and His saving grace. He knew and trusted God’s ability to give him everything he needed. He could say with confidence, “God is great.”

That’s why when David needed help he ran to God…

Please, God, rescue me!
Come quickly, Lord, and help me.

Psalm 70:1

He may not have known exactly how God would help him but he was confident that He would.

And that’s true for us as well.

When we run to God asking Him to rescue us and help us. He may deliver us from our circumstances but even if He doesn’t, He will be with us to help us walk through whatever He allows.

The writer of Hebrews encouraged us to trust God to be merciful and gracious…

Let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

Hebrews 4:16

And the Spirit inspired Isaiah to write one of my favorite verses…

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

Isaiah 41:10

We can KNOW that God is supporting us as we walk through difficult seasons and we TRUST that He had saved us through Christ Jesus. So, when all is said and done . . . we can “rejoice and be glad in Him.” We will boldly proclaim “God is great!”

Whatever your life is like today. If you’re carefree or carrying a heavy load of care…

You can trust Jesus, the One who gave His life to give you the Kingdom of God and everything else you need.

A Prayer to SEEK the Kingdom of God
and Value What’s Important to Him

Father, thank You for loving us and wanting us to KNOW You. Thank You for Your Word and Spirit . . . for making it possible for us to KNOW You. I believe You want good in my life here on earth and that Jesus is preparing a place for me with You forever.

Please forgive me for allowing busyness and the things of this world to distract me. Forgive me for not investing more time in learning the things that are important to You . . . things like loving You and others, like knowing Your will and doing it, like rejoicing always, praying without ceasing, giving thanks in all circumstances.

I love You, Lord, and I want to make SEEKing You and Your Kingdom the greatest priority in my life. I want to KNOW, TRUST, LOVE, and faithfully OBEY You. I want my heart to overflow with the love of Christ Jesus so that I might love well those You place around me. Please help me live in ways that glorify and honor You. Please help me obey Your will. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

“There can be no Kingdom of God in the world without the Kingdom of God in our hearts.” ~ Albert Schweitzer

“The seeking of the kingdom of God is the chief business of the Christian life.” ~ Jonathan Edwards

“If you have not chosen the Kingdom of God first, it will, in the end, make no difference what you have chosen instead.” ~ William Law

May we SEEK the Kingdom of God as Jesus directed. He is the One who came to establish and show us the Kingdom. When we KNOW Him and FOLLOW Him in knowing and doing what is important to God our Father . . . we will have everything we need today, tomorrow, and always.
