“The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.” Mark 12:29–30
If you’re like me, you want that. Oh, how you want that. But the truth is, I fall so far short of loving God the way He wants me to love Him. So much of “me” simply gets in the way.
If you relate to the struggle, will you pray with me…
God, Please Help Me Love You with All My Heart
Father, I want to love You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength.
How could I not? You have done so much for me.
You love me. 1 John 4:19
You are always with me. Isaiah 41:10 and Matthew 28:20
You gave Jesus to suffer and die for my sins. 2 Corinthians 5:21
You give me the gift of faith. Ephesians 2:8
You forgive me. 1 John 1:9
You give me everything I need. Luke 12:31
You give me Your Word. 2 Timothy 3:16 and Hebrews 4:12
You promise me eternal life in Your presence. Romans 6:23
And … Your Spirit helps me and prays for me. Romans 8:26
When I stay focused on You, when I worship You, when I’m still and listen, and when I pray without ceasing … it’s easy to love You with all my heart.
But when the enemy distracts and tempts me, when sin overtakes me, when life is hard or when I’m worried and afraid … I fall short and I’m sorry.
Your Son, Jesus said:
If you love me you will keep my commandments. John 14:15
“This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.” John 15:12
Again, I fall so far short of Your will for me. Please forgive me.
And help me…
Love You through worship and praise.
Love You through prayers of thankfulness.
Love You by making You my greatest treasure.
Love You by learning more about You every day.
Love You by obeying Your commandments.
Love You by loving others.
Loving You with all my heart is self-sacrificing service and that’s hard in a world that screams at me the importance of SELF.
I believe that by Your grace, You will help me love with a love that is patient and kind.
I believe as I surrender myself to You, You are able to give me everything I need to live free of jealousy and pride. You will help me to hold my tongue when I’m tempted to be boastful or rude. You will help me serve others, remain patient, and forgive. You will help me never give up and never lose faith. You will give me hope and the strength I need to endure through every circumstance. (Based on 1 Corinthians 13:4–7)
On my own, I can’t. But with Your help, I can and I will love You with all my heart.
Thank you, Father! Your grace overwhelms me. Amen.
