Need Wisdom? The Best Verses to Pray Now

Sharing is caring!

You're exhausted. You've tried everything you can think of, but nothing is working. You need help. You need wisdom. But you don't know where to turn. The best thing to do is go to God's Word and Pray.

You’re exhausted. You’ve tried everything you can think of, but nothing is working. You need help. You need wisdom. But you don’t know where to turn.

Jesus’ brother, James, wrote:

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

James 1:5

It sounds too easy, doesn’t it? But it’s not.

We know God’s way is best, but too often we react or respond quickly and foolishly. That’s why we need to KNOW God’s will and pause to pray before we act or react.

So, let’s look to God’s Word and ask the Lord to help us take His Word to heart so that we might live with wisdom.

You're exhausted. You've tried everything you can think of, but nothing is working. You need help. You need wisdom. But you don't know where to turn. The best thing to do is go to God's Word and Pray.

Bible Verses to Pray When You Need Wisdom

Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom.
All who obey His commandments will grow in wisdom.

Praise Him forever!

Psalm 111:10

Father, Your wisdom is true and pure. Free of additives. It is never wisdom plus something. It is knowing and obeying Your commandments.

We’re guilty of looking for worldly ideas and opinions to work alongside Your wisdom. Forgive us, Father.

Help me see through worldly deception. Help me know and live by Your peace-loving, gentle, humble, servant wisdom. Just praying those words makes me realize how different it is from the world’s ideas.

Please help me SEEK Your TRUTH, and by Your grace, live for Your glory with wisdom. Amen.

I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

Luke 11:9-10

Father, I want to SEEK You and Your will through Your Word. I will faithfully ASK for Your Spirit’s guidance to help me live with wisdom. And at Your invitation, I will not be timid. I will KNOCK through persistent prayer, pleading for You to meet my needs at Your time and in Your way.

Thank you for Your Word, for the gift of faith and the power of Your Spirit. Thank you for hearing every prayer, and for responding with grace, mercy, and love.

Lord, I need wisdom. Please show me the way You want me to go. Amen.

My child, listen to what I say and treasure my commands.
Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.
Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding.
Search for them as you would for silver,
seek them like hidden treasures.
Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge of God.
For the Lord grants wisdom!
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs 2:1–6

Lord, the world gives me a long list of things that I should treasure. Things that seem desirable in the moment but whose value never lasts. When You invited Solomon to ask for anything—he asked for wisdom. And by Your grace, he shared that wisdom and knowledge with all of us.

Knowing and loving You and Your TRUTH is the greatest treasure we can have in this life. I too want insight and understanding. I want to know how You want me to live each day. Please guide me through Your Word and Spirit, and give me the courage and strength I need to trust and obey. Amen.

You're exhausted. You've tried everything you can think of, but nothing is working. You need help. You need wisdom. But you don't know where to turn. The best thing to do is go to God's Word and Pray.

But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.

James 3:17

Father, when I read this description of wise living, I realize how often I fail. I love peace, but I don’t always speak and act in ways that promote it. I’m not always gentle, and I’m definitely lacking when it comes to willingly yielding to others.

I want to be merciful, fruitful in good deeds, sincere, and fair without favoritism. At best, I know I’m inconsistent. Please forgive me. Please forgive us.

You want our church families to be filled with people who model this Christ-like, pure living. Please work in us by the power of Your Spirit, and help us humbly trust and obey with servant hearts. Amen.

Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.

Colossians 4:5–6

Lord God, I want to live in a way that makes everyone want to KNOW You and the truth about Your LOVE and saving grace. Our world needs wisdom. So many are miserable because they are listening to the enemy’s lies and following his foolish ways.

Please, draw many more to Your TRUTH. Bless them with the gift of faith and love for Your Word and prayer. Open hearts and minds to the joy of TRUSTing and OBEYing You.

I know You love everyone dearly and personally. I know You want what’s best for them. Work through me. Work through Your church. Fill them with Your love. Teach them Your truth. Give them Your wisdom. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.

You're exhausted. You've tried everything you can think of, but nothing is working. You need help. You need wisdom. But you don't know where to turn. The best thing to do is go to God's Word and Pray.

Need Wisdom? Quotes to consider…

“The wisdom of the world, while in many cases very valuable, is most valuable when it humbly bows to the wisdom of God.” ~ Neil L. Andersen.

Wisdom begins when you realize that fearing God is the smartest thing you’ll ever do. ~ Paraphrase of Psalm 111:10

“It is great to be faced with the impossible, for nothing is impossible if one is meant to do it. Wisdom will be given, and strength. When the Lord leads, He always strengthens.” ~ Amy Carmichael

I’m so thankful that the Lord invites us to come to Him when we need wisdom. Even after we’ve tried self-help books and Google searches, taking their foolish suggestions far too often.

I’ve learned that I want to start with God’s Word of TRUTH and prayer. Any worldly advice that doesn’t align with God’s wise ways will always lead to unpleasant results.

So let’s remember…

The Lord wants to bless us with everything we need to live today and face tomorrow with wisdom, courage, and strength.

  2. I don’t have a favorite verse, but all those you’ve mentioned here certainly strike a chord with me, Deb. Perhaps the one from James stands out the most. Beautiful reminder that without God’s wisdom, we can do nothing wise. Blessings!
