Jesus’ One Important Truth to Know When Life Overwhelms You
It’s been an overwhelming year, hasn’t it?
Even if you have only dealt with government health restrictions and regulations . . . it’s been a challenging season. Almost everyone I know is dealing with additional pain and problems that have left them feeling drained and discouraged.
In addition, the constant messages of gloom and doom found in every headline we read or news source we watch . . . well, it’s easy to see why most of us are feeling burdened and overwhelmed.
Jesus experienced life with all of its challenges enduring hatred and tears and loss and rejection.
As God and Man – He fully KNOWS and fully understands everything.
How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!
Psalm 147:5
Jesus had the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to prepare His disciples (and you and me) for the future even when it overwhelms us.
I have told you all this so that you won’t lose your faith when you face troubles.
John 16:1
He also told them that they would be rejected, thrown out of the synagogue, and some would even be killed. (John 16:2)
In addition, Jesus said…
I did not tell you these things at the beginning, because I was with you then. Now I am going back to the one who sent me.
John 16:4–5a
Can you imagine how overwhelmed the disciples must have felt?
But then, He also promised two important things that together make up one important truth you and I need to know to face life’s challenge…
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will lead you into all truth.
John 16:13, John 16:33
I have told you these things so that you can have peace in me. In this world you will have troubles. But be brave! I have defeated the world!
Jesus understands and His Spirit is with you to give you everything you need to help you be brave and live in victory.
The one important truth you and I need to know is this…
We have the Spirit to help us . . . to give us strength, courage, peace, hope, and joy knowing that Jesus has already defeated the things that overwhelm us.
Will you pray with me?
A Prayer to Remember Jesus’ One Important Truth
When I’m Overwhelmed
Lord Jesus, Life is hard and yes, I’m overwhelmed. This world contains so much pain and frustration. And in some ways, it seems like we’re losing sight of the importance of kindness and compassion. The power struggle between good and evil is hurting everyone.
“When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” (Psalm 61:2) “I love you, Lord; you are my strength.” (Psalm 18:1) Please give me the “peace, which exceeds anything [I] can understand.” (Philippians 4:7)
Thank you for coming and living among us, for knowing and understanding the things that overwhelm us. Nothing that happens in my life comes as a surprise to You and nothing is beyond your ability to help by giving me the courage and strength I need. I know You are with me and You have already won the battle over all the things that try to defeat and discourage me. I praise and worship You. I trust Your One Important Truth. Amen.
I keep reminding myself to turn off the things that are making me feel overwhelmed and to prayerfully keep my heart focused on Jesus’ One Important Truth.
I have His Spirit with and within me to help me live in victory.
Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Philippians 4:8
With the Spirit’s help, we have everything we need to live with peace and courage . . . the enemy of our souls has been defeated.

Jesus tells us, ” in this world you will have troubles, but be brave”. We face confusion and chaos on a daily basis. The world is in turmoil. The enemy wants to bombard us with lies. He wants to rob us of our peace. We have the spirit of God with us to strengthen us in times of trouble. He has defeated the world. When we fix our sights on Him, we share in the same victory. We have nothing to fear! When I feel overwhelmed, I will remember your words today. Thank you Deb for reminding us, that our strength lies in Him. May God bless you and inspire you always and thank you for sharing your insights with us all today.
Blessings!

Praise God, He has defeated the one whose goal it is to steal, kill, and destroy. It can be so easy to focus on the things the enemy continues to do but oh, the peace and joy we can experience when we keep our hearts and minds set on Jesus. Thanks so much, Angela. I always appreciate your additions to the conversation. God bless you!
Thank you Deb, as I you.
God bless you too, my friend in Jesus.
