The Best Advice for Living Your Purpose with Peace

The best thing we can teach the next generation is how to live our their God-given purpose with peace. Let's look at how to know that purpose and pursue it with hope and confidence.

What is the best advice you could give the next generation about living a life of purpose with peace?

Bible Scholars believe that Psalm 127 was written by David for Solomon, or by Solomon for his children.

Whoever wrote the words, they both knew the following advice is vitally important…

Unless the Lord builds a house,
the work of the builders is wasted.
Unless the Lord protects a city,
guarding it with sentries will do no good.

Psalm 127:1

If a person wants to live out their purpose with peace, they need a firm foundation individually and collectively. They need to have something to do and feel safe and secure doing it.

They need the Lord’s guidance, presence, and help.

David wrote…

The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my Savior;
my God is my rock, in whom I find protection.
He is my shield, the power that saves me,
    and my place of safety.
I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise,
and He saved me from my enemies.

Psalm 18:2–3

Strong nations need strong communities and strong communities need strong families … and to have a strong family each individual needs a purpose established on the firm foundation of God’s grace, mercy, and love.

So, is it any wonder that the enemy of our souls has been striving to create doubt and take God out of our homes and communities since the beginning of time?

Recently, I received the following comment on social media in response to my post – How to Read the Bible in a Way that Will Change Your Life

“Reading fiction doesn’t change your life unless you want to live pretending.”

Oh, how the enemy wants us to believe that … but the Bible clearly tells us the truth of the evidence of God.

Hebrews 11:1 says:

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

And that’s true for you and me but read the words John wrote at the end of his Gospel…

This disciple is the one who testifies to these events and has recorded them here. And we know that his account of these things is accurate. Jesus also did many other things. If they were all written down, I suppose the whole world could not contain the books that would be written.

John 21:24–25

I’ve written more about the evidence I believe we have for faith here … How to Answer Someone Who Says Your Faith is Belief Without Evidence

All we have to do is look around! Without God, families fall apart and culture crumbles.

Psalm 127 goes on to say…

It is useless for you to work so hard
from early morning until late at night,
anxiously working for food to eat;
for God gives rest to His loved ones.

Psalm 127:2

Building our lives on the firm foundation of God’s love gives peace and purpose to life.

Solomon wrote the following with wisdom given to Him by God…

Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek His will in all you do,
and He will show you which path to take.
Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.
Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
Then you will have healing for your body
    and strength for your bones.

Proverbs 3:5–8

Let’s prayerfully ask the Lord to help us build our lives on a firm foundation of faith … trusting Him to give us everything we need to safely live our purpose for His glory.

A Prayer to Live Your Purpose with Peace

Father, You have given everything and everyone on earth a purpose. Without Your wisdom and guidance, we chase so many temporary worldly desires trying to satisfy our inner need for You. We chase desires trying to find and accomplish selfish ambitions. We need to know and pursue Your plans and purposes or we end up foolishly “chasing the wind.”

Lord, please forgive me for allowing worldly distractions to keep me from pursuing all that You want for me. Forgive me for letting doubt mislead me.

You have given me everything I need to live with faith built on Jesus, the Rock of my Salvation. You are my Peace, the One who Protects me and the Power that saves me.

My purpose in this life is to SEEK, KNOW, TRUST, LOVE, and OBEY Your will for Your glory. Why? Because of all You have done for me through Your grace, mercy, and love. You sacrificed Your Son, Jesus, to save my soul and give me life with You forever.

Please help me live my purpose with peace. I TRUST You, Lord. Please help me when I’m tempted to doubt and guide me on the path You have prepared for me so that I might live for Your glory shining the light of Your love now and forever. Amen.

“View yourself as a precious vessel He crafted for a unique purpose.”

You and I are so precious to God that He gave His Son to save us from the consequences of sin and to give us purposeful lives.

Peter wrote…

You are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for He called you out of the darkness into His wonderful light.

1 Peter 2:9

With God’s help, we can live our purpose with peace and courage. Whatever is going on in your life today, hold on to the truth of God’s promises….

In His kindness God called you to share in His eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, He will restore, support, and strengthen you, and He will place you on a firm foundation. All power to Him forever! Amen.
