When you wonder, "How did I get here?" Search for God. He has the answers and He gives wonderful blessings to everyone who earnestly SEEKS Him. Wonderful reasons to pray, praise, and give thanks.

I wonder if David was thinking, “How did I get here?” when he wrote Psalm 63. He had fled to the wilderness as his son, Absolom, was attempting to take over the country.

I wonder if it was questions like these that filled his head…

How did I get here? I love him. He’s my son. How did it come to this?

Do you ever wonder, “How did I get here?”

When we’re soaring and life is easy, we rarely ask “How did this happen?” questions. But when life comes crashing down around us, we want answers. That’s when it’s up to us to decide where we’re going to search for those answers.

So, let me ask you…

Where do you go when you need answers to life’s questions?

Do you do a Google search? Do you search the Self-Help Book section on Amazon?

David needed answers and wrote…

O God, You are my God;
    I earnestly search for You.
My soul thirsts for You;
my whole body longs for You…

Psalm 63:1

David didn’t search for worldly answers to his worldly problems. He searched the heart of the One who created all things . . . the One who not only had the answers, He was and is the answer.

David proclaimed his faith through praise…

Your unfailing love is better than life itself;
    how I praise You!
I will praise You as long as I live,
lifting up my hands to You in prayer.
You satisfy me more than the richest feast.
I will praise You with songs of joy.

Psalm 63:3–5

David had gone to God for help plenty of times before but this time David didn’t run to God for what He could do, he simply turned to God because David needed more of God Himself. He searched for God. He longed for God’s presence. He cried out to be satisfied in God alone.

You and I have a tendency to run to God for His help but God wants us to simply long for His presence.

“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.”

Reveltaion 3:20

We get so focused on the things of this world, what we want and what we don’t want, that we fail to remember God just wants us to want Him.

Search for God! SEEK First!

Our Heavenly Father wants us to search for Him above everything else because He knows that when we do we will enjoy 3 beautiful blessings…

  • The blessing of His goodness toward all who depend on Him.

The Lord is good to those who depend on Him,
to those who search for Him.

Lamentations 3:25
  • The blessing of being confident we can go to Him for help and protection.

Because You are my helper,
I sing for joy in the shadow of Your wings.

Psalm 63:7
  • The blessing of clinging to Him in faith knowing that He will never let go of us.

I cling to You;
Your strong right hand holds me securely.

Psalm 63:8
When you wonder, "How did I get here?" Search for God. He has the answers and He gives wonderful blessings to everyone who earnestly SEEKS Him. Wonderful reasons to pray, praise, and give thanks.

Let’s pray…

A Prayer to Search for God and
Want Him More than Anything

Lord, You have sought after me and I don’t deserve it. You persistently knocked on the door of my heart and gave me everything I needed to open myself to You. You know me thoroughly . . . every thought, word, and action and You want me to KNOW You. So, You offer me ways to search for You.

Your Word tells me that I can search for You and find You through all You have made (Romans 1:20) I can search for You in Your Word. (2 Timothy 3:16) And I can SEEK Your presence through prayer. (Luke 11:9)

The more I search for You the more I trust that You are good. I can depend on You to protect me and help me. I believe You hold on to me and You will never let go.

I love You, Lord. You are my Savior and my God . . . the best blessing in my life. Your unfailing love lasts forever and always.

As the enemy tries to distract and tempt me, by the power of Your Spirit, please work within me the desire to want You more than anything this world has to offer. By Your grace and with Your help, I will lift my heart and hands to You in prayer. And I will praise You as long as I live. Amen.

When you wonder, "How did I get here?" Search for God. He has the answers and He gives wonderful blessings to everyone who earnestly SEEKS Him. Wonderful reasons to pray, praise, and give thanks.

Rather than asking, “How did I get here?” Maybe it would be better if we asked, “What would God have me do now that I’m here?”

The answer to that question will always be, “Search for God!”

Open the door and invite Him into your heart. Seek Him first. Draw close to Him. Get to KNOW Him.

Because when you do, when we do . . . we can’t help but TRUST and LOVE Him. We can’t help but want Him more than anything. And He is all we need!

May the Lord bless you as you open your heart and search for Him.

We would love to pray for you.

  1. Wow!! This really spoke to my heart in a very personal way!! Deb, you just seem to know what we need and when we need it. I have had a situation for the past year or a little more with my family that has made me question, “how did it come to this? How did I get here?”
How did we get here? It has been overwhelming and hard, but it is getting less of that now. I have prayed and asked God to show his presense and He has. I do long for God’s presense and thankfully, I have felt it. He is with me all of the time. I can call on him all of the time, day or night! I am so grateful for the Holy Spirit! I believe the Lord sent the Holy Spirit to me when I was a little toddler! I knew that presense even then. Isn’t that something? I love how the Lord leads us to “spiritual people, and Christian friends!” I am so grateful for His leading me to this website and to you and your wisdom and for the wonderful people I have encountered here. I didn’t even have to ask. He just did it!! Deb, the thing that I think of most is that you have so much going on in your life with your husband and yet, you have time to send comfort and wisdom to others. You are a true and wonderful example to follow.
I appreciate your prayers and commets back to us as well.
    What a blessing you are.

Good morning Sue! Your words this morning sound so positive and uplifting! I am so thankful that God is lightening up the situation you have been going through! I give thanks and praise everyday that I can talk to Him about every care, every concern! There is no problem or prayer that is ever too small or too big to give to God. I am so humbled and so honored for His great love and amazing grace! How does anyone get through life without Him?? I am thinking of you and sending you love and hugs and prayers for a happy and peaceful day! May we rejoice together as we search and seek our Glorious God with all our hearts and keep Him first in every thought! I am so thankful for you, my new friend and sweet sister in Christ!! You made my heart smile this morning! ????????

    2. I’m sorry you’ve had this difficult experience with family. That’s a kind of pain that takes time and the Lord’s help to move through. I am so glad the Spirit led you to our site. You are truly a blessing to all of us with your statements of faith and encouragement. And it is a blessing for me to be able to write these devotions and interact with all of you. Being in fellowship with you helps me through this time. You bless me with your prayers and your kindness. Blessings and hugs to you!

  2. Kathy Francescon says:

Amen and ditto all that Sue said! I too, am in awe Deb, as I know you are going through your own challenges that are perhaps causing you heartbreak, but still You are here for all of us! You are a great ensample to the flock! Still putting God and your ministry to Him, first! And as Sue said, the kind and encouraging replies you send us, are so very appreciated, as I am sure that somedays your time is limited. And about todays post, how I search and seek God continually. I know that He is the answer to any and all questions! Lamentations 3:25
The Lord is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh Him. 41) Let us lift up our hearts with our hands unto God in the heavens.
I am lifting you up Deb, and all the other dear friends I have in my life now, through you!

    1. Couldn’t have said it better myself, Kathy. I am enjoying our friendship through this ministry. We are all blessed!! And, I feel double blessed by the addition of your wonderful friendship!! Have a wonderful Memorial Day, my friend!!

      1. Kathy Francescon says:

Thank you, Sue! It has been raining here since Saturday, so we didn’t have any big plans for Memorial Day. A good day to rest and I have given thanks and honor and prayers to all those brave soldiers who have given their lives for our freedom and the families who are missing them today. I do love our country and I am so saddened by what is happening to our once God fearing nation. There is no respect for anyone or anything these days. And most especially for God…and that wounds my heart so deeply. But someday, God will make all things right! Hope you are having a lovely day! Love you, dear friend and comrade!

        1. Kathy,

I sure do agree with you. It is so sad the way things have turned like this. I am like you, I was taught respect and love of our country.
My father served in the Military, so did my older brother ( he passed away last year) and so did my husband. We have the greatest country in the world and we have the GREATEST GOD! I know that he will show his divine intervention at some point and will not let this continue. I am also very grateful for this friendship we share. It means so much to me.
I hope that the rain will let up and you can a bit of sunshine there. Finally the sun came out here late yesterday and today is beautiful. But, tomorrow it is supposed to be cloudy again.
          Take care precious friend.

    2. Thank you, Kathy! I love being able to do this. It is a great encouragement to my heart. The Lord uses it to help me stay focused on Him and my friends here. I’m so very thankful for all of you. Your prayers and kindness bless me so very much. Thank you for sharing those verses. They are uplifting and wonderful promises to hold close. Thanks again, dear friend! You are truly a blessing!!

  3. The Lord is absolutely all we need, Deb. Let us seek Him at every opportunity. He will allow Himself to be found.
    Blessings!

    1. What a blessing to be encouraged by His Spirit to SEEK the Lord. Oh, that He wants us to KNOW, TRUST, and LOVE Him. He is so good and so very gracious. Blessings and hugs!

  4. Ana Cordova says:

How lovely these words and prayers to remind me that God will always be my rock and Shepard as long as I continue to trust and love him. That you for send your son Jesus who died for us so we can live with the same love for him and others. Today I received sad news passing of my uncle.
