Why I Believe It’s Important to SEEK Bible Truth
I recently received the following comment on a post about SEEKing God through Bible TRUTH and prayer…
“Seeking an imaginary deity is reaching for a state of delusion.”
A few months ago, the same individual left this…
“Reading what ancient charlatans invented is a waste of time. You will learn nothing.”
His attitude is nothing new. People have been questioning and challenging the accuracy of the Bible since rabbis, scholars, and early Christian leaders organized the original “Canon.”
“The term “canon” is used to describe the books that are divinely inspired and therefore belong in the Bible.” (Got Questions)
The Holy Spirit worked in the hearts and minds of those individuals to select and organize the books of the Bible. So, those who have placed their trust in Biblical truth believe that God Himself chose its content.
As I’ve shared in previous posts, I believe the Bible is true because it points to Jesus as God’s gift of love from beginning to end. It says that everyone who repents and places their faith in Jesus will be declared completely forgiven and made right with God.
Through its books, chapters, and verses God reveals Himself to people and invites them to enter into a loving relationship with Him that will last forever.
The following facts point to the Bible’s truth…
- 66 books (i.e. history, prophecy, letters, poetry, and narratives)
- written over 1500 years (from 1400 B.C. to 100 A.D.)
- spanning over 40 generations
- having 1 Author who inspired over 40 writers from many walks of life (i.e. – kings, peasants, philosophers, fishermen, poets, statesmen, and scholars)
- it tells of disciples who ran in fear when Jesus was arrested and crucified and yet, after spending time with Him following His resurrection they boldly proclaimed Him to the world until they were martyred for doing so.
- it is united and consistent in its message of the sinfulness of man and the grace, mercy, and love of God.
For those reasons and others, I believe the words of the Psalmist…
Your Word is a lamp to guide my feet
Psalm 119:105, 114, 160–162
and a light for my path.
You are my refuge and my shield;
Your Word is my source of hope.
The very essence of Your words is truth;
all your just regulations will stand forever.
Powerful people harass me without cause,
but my heart trembles only at Your Word.
I rejoice in Your Word
like one who discovers a great treasure.
Thanksgiving week is National Bible Week.
“U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt commemorated the Word of God by observing the first National Bible Week in 1941.” (National Today) Roosevelt’s endorsement of the significance of the Bible encouraged Americans to seek comfort, guidance, and hope through the difficult days of World War II.
In 2024, we continue to need comfort, guidance and hope and we will need them until we reach the end of Revelation and the return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus.
So, let’s celebrate National Bible Week by praying and thanking God for revealing Himself and sharing His heart and will with us through His inspired Word.
A Prayer Thanking God for Bible Truth
Asking Him to Inspire Us to SEEK
Father God, only a loving, gracious, and merciful God would care so much about the people He created that He would intentionally reveal Himself, His plans, and promises to them. From creation through fulfillment of Your redemption promises and beyond, You inspired individuals with pen and parchment to document Your message of truth.
And from the enemy’s first successful temptation until today, there have been those who have doubted and rejected Your words of hope and promise. I ask for Your forgiveness and pray the words of that caring father to Jesus, “Lord, I believe. Help me overcome my unbelief.” (Mark 9:24)
Father, You have given evidence of Your Bible truth to all who SEEK You and Your Kingdom. You invite and want everyone into the loving family of faith by trusting Jesus … what He taught us about life and showed us through His death and resurrection.
I pray that You will fill my heart with devotion for Your Word. May Your Spirit teach and guide me in all things. I give myself to You. Please fill me with hope and give me everything I need to share Your Bible truth to a world that needs You so much. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
I love the following quotes…
“The purpose of the Bible? Salvation. God’s highest passion is to get His children home. His book, the Bible, describes His plan of salvation. The purpose of the Bible is to proclaim God’s plan and passion to save His children.” ~ Max Lucado
“The Bible is God’s declaratory revelation to man containing the great truths about God, about man, about history, about salvation, and about prophecy that God wanted us to know. The Bible could be trusted just as much as if God had taken the pen and written the words Himself.” ~ John F. Walvoord
And these words of John…
I have written to you who are God’s children
1 John 2:14
because you know the Father.
I have written to you who are mature in the faith
because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning.
I have written to you who are young in the faith
because you are strong.
God’s word lives in your hearts,
and you have won your battle with the evil one.
I’d love to know why You believe the Bible’s truth and how your heart was moved to trust God’s promises.

one of these days, Jesus is coming in a cloud of glory to take us up with HIM. The unbelievers will then see and know, but it will be too late for them. It will most assuredly be a sad and horrible day for all sinners and for all who have not believed! I am so very thankful I BELIEVE IN GOD AND IN HIS WORD! Have a blessed and wonderful day of believing and drawing ever closer to our Eternal Father in Heaven!
Thank you for such a powerful lesson today, my beloved Teacher and friend!

Amen to the 3 who have commented! Thank you, Deb, for this beautiful post. It always puzzles me how some can doubt God and His Word. I believe in the Bible. It is something I have never doubted. It has been around for a long, long time and stands firm and true. I am so thankful I have it as my guide to living life. It is a sure-fire way to know God’s character and of His love for us as HIS children.
Thank you for your words of explanation and for the scriptures you used and the other authors.
Bless you, my friend.
I agree, Sue. I’ve aways believed the Bible but have only been an intentional SEEKer the last 20 years. It is a beautiful word giving wisdom, guidance, and promises that last forever. Thank you, precious friend! Enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Thank you for this nugget of Blessings today . My children were raised in the church but have fallen away. My prayer daily is they will remember who Jesus is in their lives and pick up their Bible and refresh their memories of what He has taught them . Blessings
Thank you for stopping by and for your kind encouragement, Susan. I’m praying for your children and for your sweet heart that loves them and desires the very best for them. God be with you and bless you!
I believe the Bible from cover to cover. Everything in it, every story, every judgment, every miracle and every promise is TRUE.
I pray daily for Gods TRUTH….. Just because the person in the pulpit says it, does not mean it is so, everyone has their own ideas or beliefs what scripture says, I DESIRE TRUTH, so I search the word. I desire what Gods intentions were when He sent us His Word…. not Mans perceived intention….What is Gods TRUTH.
I find it interesting that the person you mentioned above seems to NOT be a Christ Follower. Why then do they even get/receive your writings….hmmm…….. seems like they are searching for truth…….
Thank you for visiting, Ted, and for stopping to add to the conversation! The Bible is such an amazing and wonderful gift from God. It’s the best blessing that He would want us to know His TRUTH.
I believe the person who commented sees my posts on social media. I don’t know if he comes over to read them or is just commenting on the line or two he sees there. Thanks again and God bless you!
