People have been fighting spiritual battles since the enemy tempted Adam and Eve in the Garden. Here's a list of things to know so you can be prepared.

There are spiritual battles raging in and around the hearts and minds of individuals everywhere.

It’s nothing new. David wrote about it thousands of years ago…

Sin speaks to the sinful man within his heart. There is no fear of God in his eyes. For he makes much of himself in his own eyes. So his sin is not known and hated.

Psalm 36:1–2

And Paul wrote…

Our fight is not with people. It is against the leaders and the powers and the spirits of darkness in this world. It is against the demon world that works in the heavens.

Ephesians 6:12 (NCV)

The enemy is always at work tempting us to doubt God and give in to selfishness. We’re in a battle whether we realize it or not . . . and the choice is to focus on ourselves and do whatever indulges our weaknesses and self-centeredness or to focus on Seeking, Knowing, Trusting, Loving, and Obeying God.

When we humbly Seek to Know God, He empowers His Spirit in our lives so that we might learn the truths like this:

Lord, Your love reaches to the heavens,
    Your loyalty to the skies.
Your goodness is as high as the mountains.
Your justice is as deep as the great ocean.
Lord, You protect both people and animals.
God, Your love is so precious!
You protect people in the shadow of your wings.

Psalm 36:5–7

God is love. God is faithful. God is good. God is just.

Those are 4 truths we can rely on to help us fight our spiritual battles.

God is love – He is with us.

Be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”(Matthew 28:20)

God is faithful – He will give us everything we need.

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need. (Matthew 6:33)

God is good – He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can endure.

[God] will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you can endure. (1 Corinthians 10:13)

God is just – He will give us what we need to trust and obey.

Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. (Ephesians 6:10–18)

The spiritual battles are real.

I know . . . the enemy constantly taunts me with messages of fear and anxiety . . . trying to get me to fall into old patterns of doubt and rob me of all that God wants for me today.

But God whispers . . . don’t lose today’s joy because you are afraid of tomorrow. I will give you the strength you need one day at a time. Just trust me.

He wants to and is able to give us what we need to fight our spiritual battles.

I don’t know the battles you are facing but I do know the God who is loving, faithful, good, and just. I know that He will give you everything you need when you focus your heart and mind on Him.

Let’s pray…

A Prayer for God’s Help to Fight Spiritual Battles

Father, Your Word says that we don’t fight against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces of wickedness. (Ephesians 6:12) The enemy of our souls and those who work with him are constantly trying to get us to doubt You and rely on ourselves. There truly is nothing new under the sun. He continues to hiss . . . “did God really say?” And we, like Adam and Eve, weakly go along. Please forgive us. Please forgive me.

I believe You are with me. Your love surrounds me guarding my heart and mind with faith, hope, and love.

I believe You want and are able to give me everything I need to fight any battle I face. Your Spirit is with me giving me strength, courage, and the weapons I need to stand strong again the enemy’s temptation.

I believe You are good and just. I believe that you always do what is right and fair even when I can’t see it at the moment. I believe that You are gracious and merciful. And I believe that by Your grace, all things work together for good and for Your plans and purposes. (Romans 8:28)

I give myself to You. Please help me fight my battles today . . . guide me, guard me, and give me everything I need to trust and obey. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

I always protect my mind in spiritual warfare by:
    * Recognizing satan’s goals.
    * Understanding that the battle will come in personal attacks.
    * Knowing that I have protection from God with my “ Spiritual Armor.”
    * And remembering that I have a weapon, the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God.
1 Peter 5:8 says- “ Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like the a roaring lion,
