5 Simple Prayers to Start the Day with Hope
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up each morning?
Some people say their first alert moments are spent talking with the Lord.
I wish I could say that but my morning begins with puppy kisses from a furball who urgently needs to go outside. When I’m back inside, I start the coffee maker, feed the puppy, make my bed, and get dressed for the day.
After I’ve checked those items off the list and poured a cup of coffee, it’s finally time to curl up in my favorite chair with my Bible and prayer journal.
I’m thankful to be at a stage in life when that’s possible. I know many of you are caring for your family’s needs and quickly heading out to work; with all the confusion and busyness, finding distraction-free moments to spend praying and in the Word seems impossible.
Whatever your normal routine, I thought we might all be blessed by these short verses and prayers to start the day with hope … remembering that the Lord for whom all things are possible is with us.
5 Simple Prayers to Start the Day
Let us thank the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It was through His loving-kindness that we were born again to a new life and have a hope that never dies. This hope is ours because Jesus was raised from the dead.
1 Peter 1:3
Father God, thank You for the blessings of this new day. Because of Your grace and mercy, I have faith in Your Son, and my Lord and Savior, Jesus. Because of His life, death, and resurrection, I have a new life and hope that lasts forever.
I believe that whatever this day brings, You will be with me. You surround me with Your love and I believe You will give me the strength I need to do Your will. You are “Yahweh” the “I AM” for all my life and Your unfailing love lasts forever. You alone are worthy of all our thanks and praise. Amen.
I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:1–2 (CSB)
Father, I surrender all to You … my thoughts, words, and actions, my time, treasures, and abilities. Everything is a gift from You. I trust and love You because You invited me through Your grace, mercy, and love.
I want to glorify You in all things. So, I will SEEK to KNOW Your heart and will. I ask You to transform me by the power of Your Spirit helping me to humbly and willingly apply the words, “thy will be done” to every part of my day. I praise and worship You for who You are and all You do. Amen.
The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you can endure.
1 Corinthians 10:13
Father, the enemy of our souls is relentless. His taunts, temptations, accusations, and lies work on us continuously. Please cover me with Your faithful and unfailing love. Please give me the wisdom and courage I need to stand on the firm foundation of Jesus—the Way, Truth, and Life.
Please help me follow You, resist temptation, and endure with strength. Your grace is sufficient and Your love endures forever. Please help me do everything with a heart of gratitude in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
Proverbs 3:5–6
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek His will in all you do,
and He will show you which path to take.
Father, by Your grace and with Your help, I will trust You with all my heart. Jesus gave His life for me. Your Spirit gives me understanding so I don’t have to rely on myself. I am impatient and foolish. Please forgive me and give me a SEEKer’s heart of faith.
Show me the path You have prepared for me, light the path before me, and give me everything I need to take each step as You desire. I trust Your unfailing love forever and always. Amen.
I can do all things through Christ, because He gives me strength.
Philippians 4:13
Lord, I believe that by Your grace, I will have the strength to do whatever this day brings. I believe You will help in good moments and bad. I believe You will give me whatever I need even when the challenge seems impossible.
Your Word promises that everything is possible for You. You promise to give me everything I need nor will you leave or forsake me. I believe Your promises! You are my shelter and shield … I put my hope in You. Amen.
Hope is called the anchor of the soul (Hebrews 6:19), because it gives stability to the Christian life. But hope is not simply a ‘wish’ (I wish that such-and-such would take place); rather, it is that which latches on to the certainty of the promises of the future that God has made.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13
