How Wisdom Will Help You Know and Reject the Mark of the Beast
The other day, I noticed the following verse in Exodus…
This annual festival [The Passover] will be a visible sign to you, like a mark branded on your hand or your forehead. Let it remind you always to recite this teaching of the Lord: ‘With a strong hand, the Lord rescued you from Egypt.’
Exodus 13:9
I love the continuity of God’s Word. Many have questioned the “mark of the beast” . . . what will it be and how will we identify it?
First, we need to remember something we read in Revelation 7.
I saw another angel coming up from the east, carrying the seal of the living God.
Revelation 7, 2a, 3
“Wait! Don’t harm the land or the sea or the trees until we have placed the seal of God on the foreheads of his servants.”
God marks His children as His very own. He marked them through faith and the Passover in the Old Testament, and since Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, He marks them with the “seal of the living God.”
You and I are marked with the blood of Christ.
And that awesome blessing is what Satan attacks with the “mark of the beast.”
The statue of the beast commanded that anyone refusing to worship it must die. He required everyone—small and great, rich and poor, free and slave—to be given a mark on the right hand or on the forehead. And no one could buy or sell anything without that mark, which was either the name of the beast or the number representing his name.
Revelation 13:16–17
We have been taught to obey the law but what should God’s people do if disobedience to the civil law of the government asks us to disobey God’s moral law? And what should we do if we are told we can neither “buy or sell anything without that mark”?
God’s Word tells us to obey civil laws unless they conflict with God’s truth and moral law. We must honor God above all else.
Peter and the apostles replied when leaders told them to stop teaching in Jesus’ name…
“We must obey God rather than any human authority.
Acts 5:29
So, in this case, we are to refuse the “mark of the beast.” We are to be completely committed to God—no matter the consequences.
Revelation 13:18a says, “Wisdom is needed here.”
Let’s pause and pray that God will give us wisdom and strength to reject the “mark of the beast.”
A Prayer to Know and Reject the Mark of the Beast
Father, thank you so much for wanting us to know about the difficulties your children will face before Jesus returns. I know there is much I don’t understand but I am so thankful for Your promise to be with us and give us everything we need. I thank You for promising to give Your children wisdom when they ask for it. (James 1:5)
Please give me the wisdom I need to know Your will and the strength I need to obey it. I love You, Lord, and I pray that You will give me everything I need to worship You alone. I pray that I will faithfully honor Your first command to have no other god but you. Please give me the wisdom I need to identify the “beast” and the strength and courage I need to reject its mark . . . even though it may mean hardship and sacrifice. Nothing is worth sacrificing what I have in You eternally for what I might be allowed momentarily.
Thank you for placing the “seal of God” on Your children. I know that although the enemy will be allowed to wage war on Your children for a time, You are and will always be in control The enemy can never harm the souls of those who love You . . . those who have placed their trust in Jesus.
I trust You. I give myself to You. Please give me everything I need to remain strong in the face of fear. Please help me focus on You and trust that You will help me carry whatever burden You allow. In Jesus’ precious name, I pray. Amen.
There have been many questions and discussions about the “mark of the beast.” Over the years, bar codes, credit cards, social security numbers, the vaccine, etc. have all been suggested as possibilities.
I truly believe as we pray for wisdom there will be no question about it when the time comes. Scripture is clear that it will involve both worshipping the “beast” and that it will be required in order to “buy or sell.”
And until then and even through that time, we must remember the important truth that…
- God is on the throne.
- He has marked us with His seal and He is with us.
- He will give us everything we need to stand strong.
- It is only temporary . . . Jesus has won the ultimate victory forever.
On today’s note write:
I will trust God to help me know and reject the “mark of the beast.”
May God bless you and give you courage as you place your hope and trust in the Lord.
Praying for that wisdom today, Deb, as we live in such troubling and alarming times. Remembering that I’m sealed as God’s own forever.
Blessings!
Me too, Martha! Every day! We need His guidance, wisdom, and discernment. Blessings!
The KJV says the Mark of the Beast will be “IN” the right hand or “IN” the forehead. Every other English Bible translation says “ON” the right hand or “ON” the forehead. Quite a difference here and will be a crucial decision to make one day. Which is it? On or IN the right hand and forehead
I agree, Joe! It will be a crucial decision for people to make. I believe though that it will be a clear decision for those who know, love, and trust Jesus. I don’t know if it is “on” or “in”. Some think it will be something like a tech chip, it could be like a tattoo . . . the Bible isn’t specific. But I do believe we will know that we are being asked to give our complete loyalty to “the beast” in order to function in society and we will be called to remain faithful and trust the Lord. Thanks for the question. God bless you!
