This is Urgent! The Day Is Almost Here – Get Ready!

Wake up! Get Ready! This is important!

This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up!

Romans 13:11

Paul wrote it, but the Holy Spirit inspired it. It was true on the day it was written, and it’s true today.

What’s it?

Our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here.

Romans 13:11b–12a

It’s easy to believe there’s no urgency … that we have plenty of time. After all, Paul wrote this 2,000 years ago, and Jesus hasn’t returned yet.

But Peter also addressed those questions and concerns…

A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isn’t really being slow about His promise, as some people think. No, He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. 

2 Peter 3:8b–10a

And remember Jesus’ parable about the 10 Bridesmaids in Matthew 25. Five of the bridesmaids missed the arrival of the Bridegroom because they were gone getting oil when He got there.

We need to be personally prepared. We can’t borrow, buy, or trade a relationship with God through Jesus.

So, like the bridesmaids, it’s time for us to wake up. It’s time to know—this is urgent!

The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.

How can you and I make sure we are ready?

We focus on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…

Let us keep looking to Jesus. Our faith comes from Him and He is the One Who makes it perfect.

Hebrews 12:2 (NLV)

And we put on the Armor of God…

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 

Ephesians 6:12 (NIV)

So, while we watch and wait, focused on our Lord and Savior, Jesus, let’s put on…

• The Belt of God’s truth. (Being Filled with God’s Word)
• The Breastplate of God’s Righteousness. (Receiving and Giving Forgiveness)
• The Shoes of God’s Peace. (Sharing the Good News about Jesus)
• The Shield of Faith. (Protected from the Enemy by Faith)
• The Helmet of Salvation. (Focused on God’s Grace in Jesus)
• The Sword of the Spirit. (Fighting Evil with the Word of God)
• While Praying in the Spirit. (In Unceasing Communication with God)

It is only when we are fully focused on Jesus and armed by God that our lamps will be full and our hearts prepared for Jesus’ return.

Let’s pray…

Father God, I thank and praise You for Your patient love. Making Your saving grace available to us through Jesus is life’s greatest blessing. And although we are foolish and stubborn, You continue to give us time and opportunities to KNOW You … to hold dear Your gift of faith.

Please turn hearts and minds to the truth about Jesus. Please wake up the culture that has interpreted Your gift of time as a reason to doubt or deny. You promised a Savior in the Garden and sent Your Son, Jesus, to keep Your Word.

He told us of our need to KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST Him and You through His Spirit. And He promised that His Spirit would never leave us or forsake us. He promised He would physically return for us.

Please give us SEEKers’ hearts. Please increase our faith to KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST You. Help us OBEY You by loving as You command. Please help me remember that this is urgent. Everyone needs to get ready!

I give myself to Your loving care. By the power of Your Spirit, please give me everything I need to live with a full lamp. Help me shine the light of Your love with faith, hope, and joy. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

“Let us be alert to the season in which we are living. It is the season of the Blessed Hope, calling for us to cut our ties with the world and build ourselves on this One who will soon appear. He is our hope—a Blessed Hope enabling us to rise above our times and fix our gaze upon Him.”

We don’t know the day or the hour. The one thing we know for sure is that we are closer now than ever before. Whether Jesus returns for all of us or it’s time for us to individually to to Him, we want to be prepared.

William Barclay wrote a wonderful word to encourage us…

“The best way to prepare for the coming of Christ is never to forget the presence of Christ.”

Yes, this is urgent. We need to get ready!

Let’s fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Let’s live with bold strength, clothed in the Armor of God. May we open our hearts to the Spirit, inviting Him to bless us with full lamps.
