Do you know someone who radiates gratitude?

It may be because they know the…

4 Important Truths about Gratitude

1. Gratitude is a choice.

Grateful people don’t wait until they get what they want to be thankful. They choose to celebrate what they have. Even when life is hard . . . there are always things to celebrate with thankfulness.

In every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (AMP)

That’s not necessarily being thankful for our circumstances . . . it is simply being thankful that God loves us, is with us, and gives us everything we need one day at a time no matter what our circumstances.

2. Gratitude will make you happier.

Grateful people count their blessings and that simple act alone makes a person happier. And happy appreciative people have better relationships, are more successful at work, feel better physically and mentally, and generally cope with life better than their counterparts. Seriously, you could almost be grateful for selfish reasons! Gratitude is good for you!

The Lord is my strength and my safe cover. My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. So my heart is full of joy. I will thank Him with my song.

Psalm 28:7 (NLV)

“Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.” ~Denis Waitley

3. Gratitude is easier than you think.

Grateful people express thankfulness in simple habit-forming ways every day. They say please and thank you as soon as possible. They are encouragers who compliment more than they complain. If you need help counting your blessings and making gratefulness part of each day, this printable can get you started…

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalm 118:24 (ESV)

4. Gratitude is a powerful way to share God’s love.

Grateful people respond to God’s love with both words and actions by not only saying “thank you” and singing His praises but by loving and appreciating the people God puts around them. When we are thankful for God’s blessings we want to share them.

Because when you and I love someone we can’t help but show them

God showed how much He loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him . . . Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other.

1 John 4:9, 11

A Prayer Thanking God for the Truths about Gratitude

Father, Thank you for giving us so many reasons to be grateful. You gave us Jesus to save us and make it possible for us to spend eternity with You in the home being prepared for us. You give us everything we need each day to live with joy, peace, love, hope, and so much more. If you never did another thing for us that would be enough for us to live each day with gratitude and praise.

The enemy tenaciously taunts us with problems and predicaments trying to tempt us to doubt all the blessings we enjoy because of Your grace, mercy, and love. Please forgive me for giving attention to his lies.

With Your Spirit’s help, I will choose Your truths about gratitude and celebrate each day with love, joy, peace, and patience. I will lift up the name of Jesus with praise and thanksgiving. I will enjoy the blessing of happiness because of your all-sufficient provision. I give myself to You, my Lord and Savior. Amen.

The Truth about Gratitude that Blesses Every Day

Rev has a saying he uses when he finds himself being dragged down by the difficulties of the day. It’s a phrase he started saying when he had constrictive pericarditis and lived a little more than a year with all the symptoms of congestive heart failure.

It goes like this…

“If I wait until I feel good and life looks perfect to be thankful and happy, I may never be thankful and happy again.”

It’s a truth about gratitude that we have been intentionally applying again recently because…

After months of symptoms and testing . . . Rev has been diagnosed with a progressive and incurable illness.

The enemy taunts and tempts us to focus on the diagnosis and live with fear. But when we do that, we are robbed of joy, peace, contentment and so much more.

So, with the Lord’s help, we will take every thought captive and live each day praising and thanking God. Because we know that when we live the truths about gratitude and focus on all the Lord has done, is doing, and promises to do in the future we are happier and we have what we need to shine the light of His love.

A love that is always greater than our circumstances.

So, will you join us? Let’s intentionally count our blessings and thank the One who gives us immeasurable reasons to be thankful every day.

Because . . . His truths about gratitude promise to bless us every day.

May living with gratitude be a joy-filled habit for each of us.

“To be always in a thankful state of heart before God is not to be considered a high plane of spirituality but rather the normal attitude of one who believes that ‘all things work together for good to them that love God, who are called according to His purpose.'” ~ William Law

    Thank you Deb!!

Such a great reminder to all of us, and I think if we intentionally seek to be grateful for what God has already provided for us, and continues to provide for us, this world (fallen and finite as it may be) will be a much better place while we wait for our Savior to return!

  4. Kathy Francescon says:

What a most wonderful post Deb, though I am so very sorry to hear about Rev’s illness. My family and I are also dealing with my beloved brother, Larry, being recently diagnosed with throat cancer. He has some other health issues anyway and this has just broken our hearts. We are all praying of course and I know that God will be with us through the journey ahead. But, I know that even in the midst of the unknowns and the fears and concerns I am dealing with right now, there is still so much to be thankful and grateful for. I will continue to give praise and be thankful to our Father in Heaven for the many, many blessings He showers us with every minute of every day! His grace is sufficient!
I will be praying for Rev and you and your family, sweet friend. And You are one of the blessings that I am so very grateful for!
    Psalm 103:2
Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits!

What a blessing I received from your post today! I get inspired from all that you write, but today’s post was just what I needed and sent by God. 10. My heart and prayers are with you and Rev. So very sorry for having to face this difficult situation. I honestly can say that I feel your pain, the potential fear, worry by being in this circumstance, as I’m sharing it with you by dealing with my husband’s incurable ailness. But through this time I learned that indeed the Lord is True to His Word. His love is everlasting even through the seizures, the fear, worry and despondency. There is that loving arm reaching down, picking me up and set my feet on the Path again with a renewed Trust, Faith and determination that the God Who brought us to life, Who created all, Who promised to care for us, will NOT LEAVE US and see us through.
And I can only say the same to you dear friend, your Heavenly Father, your God and Lord is there with both of you. Strenghthening, encouraging, loving, consoling…. He’s walking beside both of you as He promised without ever taking His eyes off of you.
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4
“I sought the LORD, and He answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to Him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!”
    Psalm 34:4–5, 8
“For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, ‘Fear not, I am the one who helps you.'” Isaiah 41,13
