7 Wonderful Reasons to Celebrate Your Identity in Jesus
Culture says, “Be yourself.” Be self-aware, know your identity, live your truth, and follow your heart.
Know your personality, talents, strengths, weaknesses, beliefs, and values … be true to yourself and you’ll be happy. On the surface, that sounds appealing and it would be in a perfect world.
The problem is that we live in a world full of sinful ideas and influences.
If we really want to find happiness in our identity we have to find our identity in the One by whom and for whom we were created…
For in [Christ] all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him.
Colossians 1:16 (NIV)
And when we were lost in sin, He came to save us and give us a new identity in Himself.
So, here are some identity markers followers of Jesus have been given that are worth celebrating.
7 Wonderful Reasons to Celebrate
Your Identity in Jesus
1. In Jesus, your identity is JUSTIFIED – forgiven and free.
Yet God, in His grace, freely makes us right in His sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins.
Romans 3:24
2. Your identity is RIGHTEOUS – given a right relationship with God.
But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners.
Romans 4:5
3. Your identity is TRUST and OBEDIENCE – set free from sin’s power.
We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.
Romans 6:6–7
4. Your identity is SANCTIFIED – declared holy in Christ Jesus. (uniquely set apart for His purposes).
He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus, just as He did for all people everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours.
1 Corinthians 1:2b
5. Your identity is GOD’S CHILD – adopted and loved by the Father.
So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when He adopted you as His own children. Now we call Him, “Abba, Father.” For His Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.
Romans 8:15–16
6. Your identity is MASTERPIECE – created by God for His glory.
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.
Ephesians 2:10
7. You are WELCOME in GOD’S PRESENCE – Invited into a personal relationship through His Word, prayer, and the power of the Spirit.
Because of Christ and our faith in Him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.
Ephesians 3:12
In Jesus, our true identity has been given to us by the Lord who created us and if we want to be ourselves and live truthfully we need to know what we have through and in Him … because those are identity traits that can be celebrated and lived well.
Let’s pray…
A Prayer to Celebrate Your Identity In Jesus
Father God, how can I begin to thank You for all You have done for me? You created me for this time and place. You created me to love and be loved. You created me for Yourself.
Please forgive me for the times I take Your love for granted. Forgive me for listening to the enemy’s lies and thinking that being true to my selfish sinful nature is the way to success and happiness. Forgive me for giving in to weakness and worldly ideas. You want so much more for me and gave Jesus to make it possible.
Jesus sacrificed everything to make me Your child and give me my true identity. He gave up the glories of heaven choosing to live without luxury or comfort, offering His heart, love, and very life to make it possible for me to be identified as forgiven and freed of sin and its power and give me a right relationship with You.
Through Him, we have been set apart to live for Your glory, not our own selfishness. Through His sacrificial love, You tore the Temple curtain in two welcoming us into Your presence.
Please help me remember that when I settle for a worldly identity, I’m settling for so much less than being the masterpiece You created me to be. Father, help me live the identity You made possible … the one You want for me and for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Here are a few of my favorite quotes about finding our identity in Christ Jesus…
- “If your identity is found in Christ, then it matters less and less what people think of you.” ~ Leonard I. Sweet
- “The same Jesus Who turned water into wine can transform your home, your life, your family, and your future. He is still in the miracle-working business, and His business is the business of transformation.” ~ Adrian Rogers
- “What kind of wonderful God is this who reaches down into the lives of people, picks them up, grants them faith, and changes them.” ~ Alistair Begg
- “Fervent prayer keeps your true identity in focus.” ~ Priscilla Schirer
Take time today to celebrate your identity in Jesus. He made you for His plans and purposes, making our identity in Jesus far greater than anything we can create for ourselves.

Hello, Deb,
I pray all is well with you ( 3 John1-2).
Thank you for all your sharing and teachings. They are such a Blessing.
I also thank God for your Biblical encouragement.
Reading the Bible is the best way to remind yourself of who we are in Christ.
More stuff, a bigger house, and more money, will not satisfy us because our worth is not determined by what we earn. We need to be wise about what and who we listen to (Romans 12:2).
* Genesis 1:26-27 ~ You are made in God’s image.
* Psalm 139:13-14 ~ You are one-of-a-kind.
* Romans 8:37-39.
Our self-worth is based in our Savior Jesus Christ.
He showed how valuable we are to Him; He died to save from sin and gave us a new life, redeemed us, and brought us into His family forever. Romans 5:19-11 –
Zephaniah 3:17. We need to connect with people who are committed to following the Lord. We can all live in God’s peace ( Philippians 4:6-7.
Deb, may your day be filled with the Blessings of love, peace, joy and laughter.
In His Kingdom,
Raquel
