I sometimes wonder what more can be written about gratitude. Countless articles have been written about the ways gratitude can improve your health, bless your relationships, and turn the average day into a celebration.

And yet…

We’re still not very good at it, are we?

We don’t consistently express our gratitude to God or the people around us.

Even though we know grateful people are more satisfied, have stronger relationships, and are generally happier.

Don’t you want that for your children? For yourself?

It’s time to make the expression of gratitude part of every day. So, I’m inviting you to join me in taking a gratitude challenge for the rest of the year because really, why should this end with Thanksgiving day? We’re going to start by counting our blessings.

 7 Blessings a Day – Gratitude Journal

Let’s grab our journals and list 7 blessings for which we’re grateful each day.

Better yet, let’s make it a family project and have everyone share one or two blessings to add to the list. Won’t it be fun to read through our blessings journal on New Year’s Eve?

Here are some questions and quotes to help.

1. Who was nice to you today?

Three things in human life are important. The first is to be kind. The second is to be kind. And the third is to be kind. ~Henry James

2. What did you enjoy doing today?

Enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you don’t have. Just dreaming about nice things is meaningless—like chasing the wind. Ecclesiastes 6:9

3. Who helped you today?

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Ecclesiastes 4:9–10

4. Who did you help?

“There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life beautiful for others.” ~Mandy Hale

5. What is the best thing that happened today?

The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Psalm 32:8

 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 1 Corinthians 13:4–7

Like worship, gratitude is not something you and I do occasionally. Gratitude. Thanksgiving is an attitude. It’s an offering given in response to all God has given us.

So, we’ll make a list of blessings and one more thing…

Stop and intentionally say thank you to someone every day. Send a note, card, or email. Make a phone call. Bake a batch of cookies. Be appreciative. I promise it will bless you more than you know.

A 7 Blessings Gratitude Journal and a Thank You!

You can do this. I can do it! And I believe it will change our lives and lives of those around us.

    Thank you for reminding us to be thankful at all times and in all things. I think sometimes we do not realize we have so much to be thankful for until we start counting our blessings. Then we truly see how we can can never keep up with God’s goodness to us.

  10. These are the types of questions I try to ask my children on the way home from school every day. My oldest has a tendency to focus on the negative, so I’ve learned to ask questions that will garner a positive response from her (help her see the good).     I was also moved and blessed.
    It’s a wonderful reminder to us that there is gratitude and Thanksgiving in our every day lives.
