Day 19 – God, Please Strengthen and Bless My Marriage with Love
One of the most frequently used sections of Scripture read at weddings is found in Ecclesiastes, where Solomon wrote…
Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help … Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm … two can stand back-to-back and conquer. (Taken from Ecclesiastes 4:9–12a)
And we go into our marriages starry-eyed full of “happily-ever-after” hope and promise.
But it seems like as soon as the “happy” is challenged, the “ever-after” may be questioned.
So, today, I’m inviting you to pray with me…
God, Please Strengthen and Bless My Marriage with Love
Father, Jesus said, in marriage…
“The two are united into one.” Mark 10:8
In so many ways my spouse and I are one.
But we are unique individuals with differences, too. Lord, help us not allow those differences to get in the way.
Please help me remember…
When I’m focused on myself and believe my spouse should change … it’s possible … no, it’s likely, I’m the one who needs to change.
Please help me focus on doing what I can to bless my relationship with this person I promised to love and cherish for the rest of my life.
By the power of Your Spirit, help me to be…
Humble – Ephesians 4:2
Patient – Ephesians 4:2
Grateful – Ephesians 1:16
Kind – Colossians 3:12
Forgiving – 1 Peter 4:8
Encouraging – Ephesians 4:29
Loving – 1 Corinthians 16:13–14
Bless my marriage . Keep us united through Your love.
Father, we need Your help because sometimes it feels like life’s circumstances beyond the walls of our home are trying to tear us apart.
People demand our attention, work wears us out physically and mentally, and ministries need our time, talents, and financial support.
Please help us set safe boundaries around our marriage to make our relationship a precious priority.
Draw us close to You, Father.
Don’t allow us to lose sight of the end of the “two are better than one” verses…
Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12b
Keep each of us closely connected to You, the One who strengthens our cord and is able to keep it from breaking.
Father, please strengthen and bless my marriage.
May we individually and together…
Remember that our marriage is a precious gift. Hebrews 13:4
Faithfully show one another love and respect. Ephesians 5:33
Work toward common goals. Philippians 2:2
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ Jesus. Ephesians 5:21
Father, Keep us united by Your love. John 17:11
Make us faithful to the promise we made. 1 Corinthians 7:13
And by Your grace, help us remember…
Love is a gift from You … we love each other because You loved us first. 1 John 4:19
And…
Love is able to help us overcome … for love covers a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8
Draw us close to You and to each other. In Jesus name. Amen.

Amen, Deb! Great reminders for all of us married folks to treasure God and our relationship above all else. Blessings!
What an encouraging prayer! I can identify with the world outside our walls trying to pull us apart. This prayer could easily be prayed daily. Many Thanks!
Thank you, Debra! It’s so kind of you to take the time to stop and let me know this blessed you! May you and your family be blessed!
Deb, thanks for sending! Such beautiful words to strengthen marriages.
Thank you, Steve! I appreciate your kind encouragement! God bless you!
Thank you for this prayer. It was so meaningful to me, and held many reminders for me to be aware of my hubby’s needs and wants. I want to share something for those who worry that they have lost their connection to their spouse, and maybe they should end their marriage, their relationship. (Of course I am not talking about situations of mental or physical abuse.) Twice in my almost 20 years, I have prayed for strength to go the distance in my marriage, but I also prayed that God would allow me to “fall in love” all over again. And I am blessed. God chose this man for me, and I am so grateful!
I landed here via Pinterest. I don’t follow any other faith based blogs, so I don’t get that kinds of pins on my feed. God knows that I needed this connection. I pray blessings on you, Deb, and thank you for reaching out to others.
Elaine, I’m so glad you came over and visited! Thank you! And I really appreciate that you stopped to take the time to tell me this blessed you! Praying to “fall in love” all over again! I love that!! God bless you and your family! <3
This prayer is perfect for what God has been working on in my life. My husband just had the conversation about wanting to keep God first and keep our marriage strong. This prayer is definitely a step in the right direction.
