5 Verses to Pray When You Need God’s Help & Strength
Where do you go when you need help?
Not help with the kids, errands, your job, or chores around the house.
But help with your emotions.
Where do you turn when your heart hurts? When you’re worried? Afraid? Overwhelmed? Sad? Angry? Stuck?
Where do you run when you need strength and you’re overwhelmed by feelings of weakness?
I’m having one of those days. So, I’m running to the Lord and I’m asking Him for help.
I’m counting on Him because of the countless times He has helped me in the past . . . times when He has kept promises like:
The Lord gives His people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace.
Psalm 29:11
God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.
Psalm 46:1
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
Isaiah 41:10
Recently I picked up one of my older prayer journals and as I read through prayer after prayer I read:
- Please forgive.
- Please comfort.
- Please guide.
- Please bring peace.
- Please give wisdom.
- Please strengthen.
PLEASE HELP!
He’s helped me when I’ve been afraid, discouraged, weak, and worried. He has helped me and given me courage, strength, and hard-to-understand peace.
He has promised that even when I am overwhelmed and I don’t have the words to pray He is my Helper…
The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.
Romans 8:26
And He is yours, too!
You and I can trust and count on the Lord who faithfully helps and gives us strength.
In fact, we can be so confident that He keeps His promises, His Word tells us…
Let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Hebrews 4:16
So, let’s ask the Lord for His help today. Let’s thank Him for caring about our every need. And let’s thank Him for giving us His Holy Spirit . . . for inviting us to come to Him whenever we need His strength.
A Prayer Asking God for His Help
and Thanking Him for Help in the Past
Father, I need Your help! I need strength. I am weak and afraid. Thank you for inviting me to confidently come to You in prayer trusting that You will faithfully give me the grace, mercy, and help I need.
I trust You to help me because You have faithfully helped me in the past. You have heard each prayer and lovingly cared for me. You are my Help and Shield. (Psalm 33:20) You are my Refuge and Strength. (Psalm 46:1) You always keep Your promises. (Psalm 145:13)
Lord, life is hard. Sometimes it’s really hard. Often, I don’t know what to do or say and there are times when I don’t know what to pray. But You hear every cry for help. You hold me close and give me everything I need to carry every burden. You comfort me and give me the strength I need. Thank you! I praise You, Lord, my Help and my Salvation. Amen.
What a blessing to have God’s promises that assure us that He will meet every need when we run to and trust Him.
What a blessing to know that on those days when words are few and my mind is burdened a simple three-word prayer is always heard.
“Lord, please help us.”
He is God, the “I AM.” He will help, strengthen, and faithfully hold us up with His victorious right hand.
He is all-knowing. He sees the junk and the messes of our lives. He is aware of our flaws and failures and yet, He never stops loving us. He will never stop being willing to help. He will never stop working in us and through us for our good and His glory.
We can trust that when we run to our Heavenly Father, He is always there waiting with open arms.
So, take your concerns and cares to Him today in faith and trust Him to hear your prayer and help your heart.
May God be with you, help you, and give you everything you need.
We would love to pray for you.

So thankful for the countless difficult seasons He has carried us through in the past and for the fact that we can trust His promises for today and the future. He is so good! God be with you, my friend!
Praying for God’s help in your difficult day, let His love and those past experiences carry you through it.
I said it before, that each time you post, is like looking into a mirror. You showing me all my shortcomings, sins, and difficulties that I must deal with.
Know “these days” all too well ???? While instinctively I run to the Lord for help, quite frequently I also seek out spiritual friends for guidance or prayers. Though I have to admit that more often than not, these friends turn out to be not as spiritual as I knew them to be. It’s almost like Jesus wants my full attention, and wants me to seek only Him for solutions.
This reminds me of a Chambers’ quote –
“At times God puts us through the discipline of darkness to teach us to heed Him. Song birds are taught to sing in the dark, and we are put into the shadow of God’s hand until we learn to hear Him.” – and God knows I need to learn to hear Him. I never know if I’m following my preconceived will, or His will. Which of course got me into plenty trouble….so eventually I learn who’s will it was, but usually too late.
Lot’s of blessings and strenght to you Deb ❤️
