Now Is The Best Time To Praise God With A Hallelujah
The last five Psalms begin and end with the word “Hallelujah” or the English equivalent “Praise the Lord.”
In Hebrew, it is the combination of two words … halal and jah. Technically the translation of hallelujah is “Praise Yahweh!”
What a wonderful time of the year for us to be raising a “Hallelujah!”
Could we possibly have a greater reason to “Praise God” than the gracious gift of His Son?
The Life Application Bible Notes add that:
- Praise Takes our minds off our problems and shortcomings and helps us focus on God.
- Praise leads us from individual meditation to corporate worship.
- Praise causes us to consider and appreciate God’s character.
- Praise lifts our perspective from the earthly to the heavenly.
- Praise prepares our hearts to receive God’s love and the power of His Spirit.
Could there be a more perfect time for us to prepare our hearts to receive God’s love in the bodily form of His Son, Jesus, than these days leading up to Christmas?
After opening with the following word of praise…
Praise the Lord!
Psalm 146:1–2
Let all that I am praise the Lord.
I will praise the Lord as long as I live.
I will sing praises to my God with my dying breath.
The author of Psalm 146 continues by saying…
Don’t put your confidence in powerful people;
Psalm 146:3–5
there is no help for you there.
When they breathe their last, they return to the earth,
and all their plans die with them.
But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper,
whose hope is in the Lord their God.
So, as we approach the birth of our Savior, may we remember the foolishness of putting our confidence in the ability of any other individual to save us. The world is full of “leaders” who want the rest of us to believe that they have the power to do what only God can do … what He sent Jesus to do.
Politicians and celebrities, corporations, and creatives aren’t able to heal us spiritually. They may be able to put a bandaid on the state of things temporarily but only the Lord, our Helper, can save us now and eternally.
The enemy of our souls wants us to separate our physical and emotional needs from our spiritual needs but God created us and gave us souls. He alone is the only One able to care for the whole individual.
He made heaven and earth,
Psalm 146:6
the sea, and everything in them.
He keeps every promise forever.
He gives. He frees. He lifts. He loves. He protects. He cares.
Hallelujah! The Lord will reign forever!
We have so many reasons to praise God … to raise a Hallelujah! And by God’s grace through Jesus, we can start today and continue for all of eternity to do just that … to worship Him for loving us so much that He gave His one and only Son that we might be forgiven and have life in His presence forever and always.
Let’s pray…
A Prayer to Praise God with a Hallelujah
Father God, I love You with all that I am … with my heart, mind, soul, and strength. Raising a hallelujah to You is the least I can do to thank and praise You for who You are and for all You have done. You are and always have been all I truly need. You do what is right and good. You are loving, compassionate, and caring.
Worldly leaders try to convince us they have the answers for our needs. They promise peace and prosperity as our world grows less peaceful and less prosperous. They promote the worship of self when what we truly need is to KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST You.
I will praise You, Lord, and shout hallelujah for You have given me everything I need today and always. You gave Your only Son to save me from the punishment I deserve. You gave Your Spirit to guide me to the TRUTH and fill my heart with faith, hope, and love.
I worship You. I cling to Your promises! I give myself to Your loving care for You are the Lord of my life. Hallelujah! In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Hallelujah Quotes to Praise God
“My hope lives not because I am not a sinner, but because I am a sinner for whom Christ died; my trust is not that I am holy, but that being unholy, HE is my righteousness. My faith rests not upon what I am or shall be or feel or know, but in what Christ is, in what He has done, and in what He is now doing for me. Hallelujah!” ~ Charles Spurgeon
Hallelujah!
Psalm 106:1
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
His faithful love endures forever.
“Worship is the submission of all our nature to God. It is the quickening of conscience by His holiness, the nourishment of the mind with His truth, the purifying of the imagination of His beauty, the opening of the heart to His love, the surrender of the will to His purpose.” ~ William Temple
I heard something like the voice of a vast multitude,
Revelation 19:6
like the sound of cascading waters,
and like the rumbling of loud thunder, saying,
Hallelujah, because our Lord God,
the Almighty, reigns!
“We can always find a reason to praise. Situations change for better and for worse, but God’s worth never changes.” ~ Matt Redman
Amen!
May the Lord bless you as you raise a hallelujah to the glory of His name.
We would love to pray for you.

Amen, Martha! Blessings and hugs!
I LOVE PRAISING my LORD and SAVIOR! And yes, Matt Redman said it best! “We can always find a reason to praise!” No matter what is going on, how dark the valleys or how high the mountains, there is no end to all the countless reasons to shout out my praise to God! HALLELUJAH! Beautiful words for our hearts today, Deb! I will never be able to praise Him enough, ever!
There is a most beautiful “Hallelujah (Christmas)” song on You Tube, by a lesser known group called “Cloverton.” I promise if you listen to it, you will fall in love with this song! The words are so spiritual and the singers voice is awesome! It is one of my favorites of all time and think it may become a favorite to everyone who hears it! Pull up Cloverton and then “Hallelujah!”
I will meet you there!
Thanks for sharing the Cloverton video, Kathy. We always have reasons to praise … all because of God’s grace, mercy, and love in giving us Jesus. We have so many beautiful reasons to celebrate the Christmas season. I was thinking about you this morning and praying that all is well. So glad to get your words and encouragement today. Blessings and hugs!
Oh Deb, thank you for thinking of me. You are such a good friend. We have been extra busy with some issues with Ken’s dad, and even Ken had a bug for a few days too. So many friends and neighbors are going through rough health issues also. Of course, I know you understand that. I am so sorry I haven’t commented lately. But I have read every post and enjoyed all of the wonderful comments too! Hopefully, things will calm down a bit soon. I will be thinking of you and keeping you and Rev in my prayers. And I have yet to get the time to fix email! Hopefully soon, so Sue and I thru your kind offer can exchange emails! Hope you and Rev are getting to enjoy the Christmas Advent and all the beautiful decorations too! Many hugs my sweet and precious friend!
No need to be sorry for not commenting. Just know we miss you and think of you often. I’m glad you’re okay. Praying for Ken’s dad and hope that Ken is feeling better. Hugs!
Yes! Indeed! Praises of Hallelujah to our wonderful Lord and Savior! The Great I AM! He never breads his promises, he loves us unconditionally and is ALWAYS there for us. Our Beautiful Creator of the Universe! What a beautiful world HE gives us to live in and enjoy!
God Bless You Deb, and Rev and Sadie. You are such a faithful and loyal friend to us all.
Hugs!
He never BREAKS his promises! Not Breads!!! Sorry for the typical error!!
I knew what you meant, my sweet friend! But He is our Bread too, so your word mix up was A-OK! How are you doing, you precious soul? Though I haven’t commented in a while, I have absolutely loved all your comments! They have been an uplifting comfort for me. And I have so missed my quiet time of reading and sharing with everyone here. The business of Christmas can be so fun, but with life still demanding us in so many other ways too, it has been a bit overwhelming. And too, Christmas also adds a few sad notes along the way of those I miss and the traditions that have over time had to slip into memories. I hope you and all those you love are enjoying this Advent Season and so hope you are at peace and feeling contentment and joy. I do so want to exchange emails, so we can text anytime and so hoping I can figure out why my emails won’t send! It just stopped working! I can’t even unsubscribe to wacky emails, that I never signed up for! Prayfully, I will get it working and we can in touch more in the New Year! Have a lovely day and hope to meet you back here tomorrow on Friday’s CountingMyBlessings! Sending you a big hug filled with love!!!
I’m with Kathy, He is the Bread of life, our Provider. We are so very blessed! Hugs to you!
Hallelujah! Praise Lord for being my Father, Savior and redeemer in my life. Despite my in perfect life you give me love, peace, grace and mercy. I will always praise you and follow you in my life so you can guide me in the right path. Giving me the understanding that you have control of my life and everything is your will.
Thank you Deb for the beautiful words and praisers especially during the Christmas season to give us more understanding of his coming and always be ready to receive our Lord.
