What does it mean to you to "be still" or "cease striving"? Those words reminded us that it's important to let God be God. It's okay to admit that we can't do it all and need help. God is strong. #faith #trustGod #Prayer #Blessings #WWGGG

What does it mean to you to “let God be God?”

Years ago, there was a season when Rev served as a full-time pastor and a full-time fund-raising and stewardship consultant besides being an actively involved husband and father. Needless to say, he found himself working extremely long hours.

One afternoon, an older church member phoned him to say, “The Lord laid it on my heart to call you and encourage you to read Psalm 46:10.”

Be still (cease striving) and know that I am God.

Psalm 46:10

Even though Rev’s list of ministry to-dos was long and of value, what the Lord wanted for him was to let go … to let God be God.

The Hebrew word translated as “be still” or “cease striving” is raphah, which also means lean into, let it go, or allow yourself to become weak.

Today God is calling you and me to lean into Him. Not to stop what we’re doing, but to know it’s okay to be weak because when we’re weak we invite the Lord to show Himself strong.

He wants us to surrender and let God be God…

In our doing, in our emotions, in our successes and failures—let God be God

In everything, the Great I Am, is who we need when life is stressful and overwhelming, when our to-do list is too long, and when people are irritating our last nerve.

God is in control and promises that when we SEEK Him, He will give us what we need. When we take our burdens to Him, He will help us carry them.

It’s easy for us to try to do it all and do it ourselves. We don’t like to admit our needs and weaknesses nor do we want to ask for help but God is God and He wants us to…

Be still. Cease striving. Surrender. TRUST. And “Know that I AM”God.”

He tells us in His Word…

  • I am the Lord, who made all things.” Isaiah 44:24
  • I am merciful.” Exodus 22:27
  • I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.” Exodus 34:6
  • “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.” Isaiah 41:10
  • I am the Lord, and I do not change.” Malachi 3:6
  • I am God, and there is none like me.” Isaiah 46:9
  • I am the Lord! If I say it, it will happen.” Ezekiel 12:25
  • I am the resurrection and the life.” John 11:25
  • I am the way, the truth, and the life.” John 14:6
  • I am the Alpha and the Omega. I am the One who is and was and is coming. Revelation 1:8

Are you ready to TRUST the Great I AM? To “Be still?” To let God be God.

I know what you’re doing is good and honorable and that it’s hard to say “no” to people’s needs but what if it’s pride that keeps us from asking for help? What if our doing keeps someone else from accomplishing what God wants them to do? What if we’d enjoy more peace if we chose to be still and let God be God?

Let’s pause to “be still” and pray…

A Prayer to Be Still & Let God Be God

Father God, thank you so much for allowing us to KNOW You through Your Word and the power of Your Holy Spirit. You gave Your Son, the Word made flesh, so that we might KNOW Your heart and Your character.

I am prone to pridefully trying to do too much on my own. I want people to think I’m strong when I’m not. Forgive me. I admit my weaknesses. I can’t manage life’s emotions and tasks on my own. I need Your help.

Jesus said,  “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” (John 14:27)

I am convinced I can only enjoy the peace You want when I “cease striving” and surrender myself to Your loving care.

You are the I AM. You are Lord of All. You are my Lord and Savior. By Your grace, please help me SEEK Your will and TRUST Your ways. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Is your to-do list too long? Are you worried? Are you stressed? Frustrated? Overwhelmed? Tired?

Admit your weakness and…

Let God be God!

He promises…

“My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”

2 Corinthians 12:9a

And Paul responded with these wise words…

So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Corinthians 12:9b–10

Rev took our friend’s advice and started finding ways, with God’s guidance, to balance his time and ask for help. It blessed him, our family, and his ministry efforts.

So remember, every day is the perfect day to surrender to the One who knows you best and loves you most. It’s the perfect day to let God be God.

We would love to pray for you.
