5 Proven Ways to Be Faithful and Thankful Every Day

What if we could make Thanksgiving overflow through December and beyond by being faithful and thankful every day? Here are five daily practices that will bless you and help you live with gratitude.

It’s time to celebrate Thanksgiving. I love joining my family for a day of gratitude, food, football, and sharing our thankful hearts around the dinner table.

But I don’t want a heart full of appreciation limited to Thanksgiving. I want to be faithful and thankful every day.

What if we could make our expressions of gratitude overflow through December and beyond by lifting our thanks and praise to God for His immeasurable blessings daily?

I’ve been thinking about ways to be faithful and thankful with an attitude that lasts longer than a moment here or there.

Paul wrote:

Always be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

Colossians 3:15b-16

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:20

Always is hard, and if you’re like me, “all circumstances” can feel impossible.

But if true, thanksgiving is more than words and feelings. It’s a way of life, not just a way to feel. So, let’s make it our attitude in all circumstances.

Proven Ways to Be Faithful and Thankful Every Day

1. Pray with Gratitude

Lately, I’ve been starting my prayers “in Jesus’ name.” It helps me remember that it is only through Jesus that I am invited into the Father’s throne room of grace. I then list the specific things for which I’m thankful. Often, those things alone get me past worry, fear, and my list of requests, making it easier for me to surrender my current needs to His love and care.

Do not worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks.

Philippians 4:6

2. Love and Trust God

Jesus told His followers to love God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. That means loving God with all that we are and all that we have. It means trusting Him with every part of our lives today, tomorrow, and always.

We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.

1 John 4:16

3. Surrender to God

I haven’t always found it easy to surrender and trust God with everything. I wanted to give myself completely, but fear and worry always seemed to shout down my good intentions. I’m learning to trust that God is greater than my current circumstances. Surrendering is the confidence that through His perfect love, He is always working for our good and His glory. That’s faith-saturated gratitude.

Taking your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering.

Romans 12:1

4. Worship God

Worship is so much more than lifting hands and singing songs in church.

We were created to worship God with hearts full of love, thanking and praising the One who loves us, and gave His Son, Jesus, to save us.

Warren Wiersbe wrote…

“Worship is the believer’s response of all that he is—mind, emotions, will, and body—to all that God is and says and does … It is a loving response that is balanced by the fear of the Lord, and a deepening response as the believer comes to know God better.”

Let us be thankful and please God by worshiping Him with holy fear and awe.

Hebrews 12:28b

5. Obey God and Share His Love

When you and I take the law out of obedience and think of it as a loving response to all God has done for us, obedience becomes a beautiful way to be faithful and thankful. Obeying Him is humbly sharing His love by loving and caring for His people.

Everything you do or say should be done to obey Jesus your Lord. And in all you do, give thanks to God the Father through Jesus.

Colossians 3:17

So, being faithful and thankful every day is following the example of Jesus…

I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.

John 13:34

Let’s pray…

A Prayer to Be Faithful and Thankful Every Day

Father, I come to You in Jesus’ name.

Thank you for loving me perfectly. Thank you for giving me too many blessings to count.

Because of Jesus, Your mercy and grace cover me, and Your love surrounds me. Through the Spirit, You teach me and guide me.

Please make my life a surrendered offering of thanks as I respond to who You are and all You have done and continue to do. May my life overflow with worship, trust, and love. And by Your grace, give me everything I need to share Your love with the people around me.

I love you, Lord. I trust You. Please give me all I need to be faithful and thankful today, tomorrow, and always. Amen.

Finally…

God’s love is immeasurable.  His goodness and mercy surround us. May we make it our goal to live with eyes open and hearts aware of all He is doing in our lives.

Can you imagine the difference it would make in our lives if we started each day offering ourselves to God as a faithful and thankful response to His love, grace, and mercy.

It’s easy to think about all we’re thankful for this week of Thanksgiving. It’s harder to maintain that attitude continuously.

I want my life to be filled with overwhelming appreciation for the Savior who gave His life and made me God’s child.

David said it perfectly…

I trust God’s love forever and ever. God, I will thank You forever for what You have done. With those who worship You, I will trust You because You are good.

Psalm 52:8–9

With the Lord’s help, I believe you and I can live with Thanksgiving every day!
