Helpful Truth That Gives Hope to Heart Hoarders

Are you a heart hoarder?
Heart hoarders aren’t focused on faith, hope, and love as they count their blessings. Their hearts are stacked high with things they should have gotten rid of long ago. Things like hurt feelings, failures, frustrations, anxiety, bitterness, impatience, and shame.
It’s easy to accumulate clutter that gets in the way of the life God wants for us.
His Word tells us to…
Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.
Colossians 2:2-3
But that’s harder to do when our hearts are full of things that need to be tossed. So, maybe it’s time for us to surrender our clutter to God and ask for His help.
Helpful Truth Heart Hoarders Need
♥ Heart Hoarders Need Peace
There’s no room for peace in hearts that are full of anxiety, bitterness, and impatience.
May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.
2 Peter 1:2
♥ Heart Hoarders Need Friends
When a heart is full of hurt feelings, distrust, and unforgiveness, it’s hard to trust people and let them get close. It may be time to surrender our messes to God and ask Him to help us open our hearts and love the people around us.
Accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory.
Romans 15:7
♥ Heart Hoarders Need Help
It’s easy to get comfortable as a hoarder. Many of us hold on to a little grudge here or a bad habit there. Praise God! The Holy Spirit is able and willing to help us toss the junk and cling to God’s truth.
Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Philippians 4:8
When you and I are ready, we can surrender our hearts and ask the Lord to help us clean out our junk. He won’t organize it into neat piles, baskets, or bookshelves. He will remove it. It’s not needed. It’s junk, and it just gets in the way of His plans for us. So…
♥ Heart Hoarders Need Prayer
The enemy is relentless. The last thing in the world he wants is for us to be free of the junk in our hearts. So, he does all he can to keep us from falling to our knees and surrendering our stash to the Lord.
But over and over we’re told…
Let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Hebrews 4:16
That’s good news!
The best part is that when our hoarding mess is gone … through His mercy and grace, God will replace our junk with His truth, peace, joy, contentment, and love when we SEEK Him with a humble heart.

Let’s pray…
A Prayer for Heart Hoarders
Heavenly Father, I need Your help. I want to count my blessings and focus on all that You have poured into my life through my Lord and Savior, Jesus. But this sinful world is filled with sinful people.
Many of the things we do and say end in pain and suffering … our own and the people around us. I don’t want to be a hoarder. I confess that I often dwell on thoughts and memories that rob me of all of the good things You want for me. Please forgive me and help me.
I surrender all of my past to You. If there is something I need to do, please show me and give me the strength to obey. If not, please help me let it go. It’s time for me to live the freedom that my Savior suffered and died to give me. It’s time for me to sweep out the mess and invite Your Spirit in to fill me with the peace, hope, and joy I so greatly desire.
Please bring Godly friends into my life who will walk this path with me. May we help and encourage one another to focus on Your truth, release all that needs to go, and pray for each other to live each day with an eternal perspective.
Your grace is greater than anything in this world. Your love is perfect and lasts forever. You are the God for whom all is possible. I give myself to You in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Have you ever watched an episode of the television show, Hoarders?
People prone to hoarding struggle to know what to keep and what to remove. And heart hoarders are the same.
We need the Lord’s help through His Word, Prayer, and the Power of the Spirit to show us what we need to keep and what we need to toss. We also need a community to encourage and pray for us.
Hurt hoarding only hurts the one doing the hoarding.
So, let’s surrender our hurts, failures, frustrations, anxiety, bitterness, impatience, and shame to the Lord who is both willing and able to help us.
Let’s faithfully pray for ourselves and for those we know and love, and toss anything that interferes with all the Lord wants for us.
Let’s take Him at His Word…
Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.
1 Peter 5:7
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
John 14:27
The Lord Himself is our source of hope and everything else we need…
I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13
Doesn’t that sound better than the junk we’re tempted to hoard? I pray that we will frequently and faithfully invite the Lord in and ask Him to help us toss all that’s unnecessary and enjoy His beautiful blessings.
Remember…
He promises to help. He understands. He forgives. And He loves now and always!
