Have you ever wondered if you're really living life to the fullest? Some people believe that means going lots of places, spending lots of money, and buying lots of stuff. What if it's something else?

Have you ever wondered if you’re really living life to the fullest?

Rev and I were accused, more than once, of not living life fully.

I know you’re dying to know why, aren’t you?

Because we were content with what is often considered a very simple life.

We were not party-ers. We didn’t have to try the latest restaurant. We never went “clubbing.” We missed most of the current movies and couldn’t offer much when it came to discussions on television trends.

Yep! We were boring. LOL

It makes me wonder; you know I love to wonder.

What makes people believe “living life to its fullest” means going lots of places, spending lots of money, buying lots of stuff, and knowing lots of trendy gossip?

You see, the best definition I’ve ever found for living life to the fullest is…

To pursue a positive, satisfying existence.

What would it take for you to live a positive, satisfying existence?

I believe a powerful way to get to that answer is to ask…

How would I live my life if I knew I only had six months or a year left?

That’s looking at life with an eternal perspective and pursuing life in light of eternity. It’s a mindset that helps us determine our wants, needs, and passions more precisely.

Here are some of my thoughts…

If this were my last year of life:
  • I would not feel the need to acquire more stuff.
  • I would not eat more dinners out or travel to exotic places.
  • I would not watch more television or go to more movies.
  • I would spend more time with the people I love.
  • I would spend more time in the Word and in prayer.
  • I would watch more sunrises and sunsets.
  • I would take more walks and do more stargazing.
  • I’d thank and praise God for every moment and do what I could to live for His glory.
Your last year of life…

May look very different from mine, and I want you to know that’s okay!

Because…

Living life to the fullest cannot be defined by anyone but you.

You are uniquely and wonderfully made by a loving God, who made you for His plans and purposes. He wired you perfectly for your life and not for anyone else’s.  So dream big and pursue a positive, satisfying experience.

Then LIVE each day in light of eternity.

Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how He did it. Because He never lost sight of where He was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—He could put up with anything along the way.

Hebrews 12:2 (MSG)

Jesus is the “author and perfecter.” He is the source of our faith. His Spirit is with and within us. And He is waiting to welcome us into His glorious presence.

That’s why keeping our focus on Him, in light of eternity, will always help us live life to the fullest.

Let’s pray…

A Prayer to Live Life to the Fullest

Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me the gift of life. Your Word tells me that You knew me when I was being formed in my mother’s womb … that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139) It says that You call me a masterpiece and created me with purposes that You planned for me long ago. (Ephesians 2:10)

Father, I want to use every moment You give me and live my life to the fullest. The world tells me that means having power, popularity, and possessions. It tempts me with things that can only satisfy me momentarily. It encourages me to live my life to gratify my own desires and impress people on social media.

But You offer us so much more. You offer the satisfaction of faith in You … a satisfaction that gives peace for today and hope for the future. It gives me strength when I am weak, courage when I’m afraid, and confidence to diffuse anxiety.

Faith in You gives me everything I need to live a life of joy. I thank and praise You. Please fill me with Your Spirit and help me approach every day with an eternal perspective. Help me live my life to the fullest in ways that honor and glorify You. In the name of my Savior, Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Here are some Quotes to Help You Live Life to Its Fullest.

“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”

John 10:10

“If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.” ~ C. S. Lewis

May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Ephesians 3:19

“But whatever you do, find the God-centered, Christ-exalting, Bible-saturated passion of your life, and find your way to say it and live for it and die for it. And you will make a difference that lasts. You will not waste your life.” ~ John Piper

This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalm 118:24

The One who loves you most and best created you for life—life in all its fullness!

So, what do you think … are you living life to the fullest? Are you ready to start?

Go to God in prayer, SEEK Him with all your heart, and ask Him to give you a perspective that provides peace for today and hope for the future. Ask Him to help you find your peace and satisfaction in Him and in His plans.

May the Lord bless you and give you everything you need to live your life to the fullest now and always.
