It’s Important to Remember that God Knows, Cares, & Provides
When life feels overwhelming, do you wonder if God knows the details of your struggle?
A couple of sparrows built a nest on my daughter’s front porch last year.
Although they were rather messy little things, it was fun watching momma sit on her eggs, faithfully feed her little ones, and eventually see them fly away. All went as expected.
And that was true of this year’s springtime family.
But…
Last week, we realized that a new brood of baby birds had hatched when we saw sweet little beaks peeking over the edge once again.
We don’t know what happened, but a few nights later, one of the littles fell out of the nest and died. And the next day, another one fell.
I’ve been thinking about these words of Jesus ever since…
What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it.
Matthew 10:29
Two little birds had fallen to the ground, and the Father knew.
In a world full of billions of people and just as many or more animals, our Heavenly Father knew about the life and death of two baby sparrows on a porch in Kansas City.
Jesus added the following…
And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.
Matthew 10:30–31
Whatever is going on in your life today, God knows. Nothing is hidden from the Heavenly Father. Nothing goes unnoticed.
And He not only notices, He cares.
David wrote…
O Lord, You have examined my heart
Psalm 139:1–2
and know everything about me.
You know when I sit down or stand up.
You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
God knows and cares about every concern, fear, and need.
When we’re afraid of an uncertain future, He promises through Isaiah…
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Isaiah 41:10
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
When we’re anxious about an unmet need, He assures us through these words from Paul…
And this same God who takes care of me
Philippians 4:19
will supply all your needs from His glorious riches,
which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
I have to admit that I needed this reminder. It’s easy to think about the future and let my mind give in to fear and anxiety.
But God knows. He cares. And He provides. He is with you and me today, and He will be with us tomorrow. He is with us at this moment, and every moment going forward. We can trust His promises.
Promises like:
All who listen to me will live in peace,
Proverbs 1:33
untroubled by fear of harm.”
The Lord says, “I will guide you along
Psalm 32:8
the best pathway for your life.
I will advise you and watch over you.
And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.
Romans 8:27–28
Whatever is going on in your life today, remember…
God knows. He cares. And He provides.

A Prayer to Surrender Fear and
Remember that God Knows, Cares, and Provides
Heavenly Father, this world is full of things that frighten us. Anytime we turn on the news, we hear a long list of reports intended to agitate and alarm us. Our days begin and end with stories of war, terrorists, pandemics, and power grabs. And that’s exactly what the enemy wants – our eyes focused on the frightening side of every spiritual battle.
Your Word assures us that You not only created every part of our world, but You watch over it, as well. Nothing happens to anyone or anything without Your knowledge.
You are aware of every baby bird that falls to the ground. Of every new strand of hair on my hairbrush, and the exact number that leaves on my head. You see the tiniest details of my life wherever and whenever they occur. Nothing is hidden from You.
You care about us. You care about me. You knew what I would need at birth and every moment until my last breath. You know and provide what’s best.
Lord, I surrender my anxiety and fear to You. I trust that You know, care, and provide.
Thank you for making me Your child. Thank you for watching over me with Your love. Thank you for providing everything I need. Thank you especially for Jesus and for saving me through Your grace, mercy, and love. Amen.
Writing this reminded me of an old hymn written in 1905 by Civilla Durfee Martin…
His Eye is On the Sparrow

Overall, sparrows in the Bible represent God’s love and care for His creation, as well as the importance of humility and trust in God’s provision. These biblical birds remind us that even in difficult times, we can take comfort in the knowledge that we are known and valued by God.
As much as the loss of those baby birds hurt our hearts, I’m thankful the Spirit used it to remind me of Father God’s awesome love. He cares. Death hurts His heart, too.
That’s why He gave His Son, Jesus, to provide what we needed more than anything… His merciful forgiveness and the gracious gift of an eternal future in His loving presence.

Oh, how I hold on to that promise from God on a daily basis. Knowing He cares, knowing He knows and knowing He provides. I do know that He has gotten me through a lot in the chapters of my life. Never letting me down! Although there are times when I have to be oh so patient. His time clock is different from mine, and His plans are usually very different from mine. Life has so many ups and downs. Unless you have been through the “down” it is hard to understand. I one had a Pastor that told me that life can be like a Merry Go Round. It is so nice when you are on the horses and the music is playing and everything is a smooth ride. But, if you fall off, you understand how hard it is at times to get back on. I have found in my life, the people who truly understand are the ones who have fallen off and had the struggle to get back on. And I know that God who helps me get back on! He knows, He cares and He provides.
You once again have blessed me with your Godly wisdom and for that I am so grateful. I pray that you have wonderful week, stay safe and healthy.

I wonder if a cowbird laid her egg in the sparrow’s nest. That one when it hatches will eliminate the host’s babies by pushing them out.
