Wouldn't you love to have a great day, every day? But if you're like me, you're inconsistent at doing the things that will make today great. Here are 10 ways to get your day off to a great start.

Wouldn’t you love to have a great day, every day?

Me too. But if you’re like me, you’re inconsistent about doing the things that help to make today great.

Too often, I wake up focused on the list of things I don’t want to do. Then I do a little mental complaining about my stiff muscles and achy joints.

Why does the enemy so often hit us with all that’s negative first thing in the morning?

It’s taken too long, but I’ve discovered that I don’t have to give in to his taunts and temptations.

So today, I’d like to share some tips I’ve learned over the years—practices to help us start each day with a positive attitude.

Why? Because it’s our attitude that will either make today great or turn it around in the other direction.

If you’re a morning person with a great attitude, you may be doing many of these things already. If not, here are morning practices that can improve your attitude and your day.

10 Morning Habits that will Make Today Great

1) Turn your alarm off and…

Thank God for the gift of another day.

This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!

Psalm 118:24

2) Pull the covers up

Really! Stretch your arms up over your head, get your blood moving. I promise it will make your bed easier to make.

And while you’re at it, proclaim…

I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:13

3) Make your bed.

You’re standing there anyway, and it feels great to accomplish something on your to-do list right away.

The number one resolution that people mention to me as something that’s made them happier is, to my surprise, making the bed. ~ Gretchen Rubin

4) As you brush your teeth

Ask the Lord to help you speak only kind and helpful words today.

From a wise mind comes wise speech;
the words of the wise are persuasive.
 Kind words are like honey—
sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.

Proverbs 16:23–24

5) When you take a shower

Whether at night or in the morning, use that time to repent and ask the Lord for forgiveness. Then watch your failures go down the drain and praise God for His grace, mercy, and love.

But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and His gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ.

Romans 5:15

6) When you get dressed...

Think about putting on the Armor of God.

Belt of Truth. Breastplate of Righteousness. Shield of Faith. Helmet of Salvation. Sword of the Spirit.

Ephesians 6:13–18

7) Remember to eat breakfast.

Here’s one of my favorites…

Instant Oatmeal Muffin

1/3 Cup Instant Oatmeal
1 Tbsp Baking Mix – like Bisquick (I use powdered Peanut Butter.)
Cover with Milk, Water, or Protein Shake
Mix and add the flavor of your choice.
(1/3 mashed banana, 2 tsp. peanut butter or Nutella, blueberries, nuts, etc.)
Microwave for 1-2 minutes.
(I top mine with butter, honey, and chopped nuts.)
YUM!

8) Read Scripture or take it with you.

Download a Bible app on your phone, or print verses on cards. My goal is to faithfully focus on God’s Word more than I scroll through social media. Maybe it’s time for all of us to challenge ourselves.

I have hidden Your Word in my heart, that I might not sin against You.

Psalm 119:11

9) Turn up your praise music.

Morning, afternoon, or evening… choose praise. My day is always better when I listen to faith-encouraging music! So sing along, and make a “joyful noise” to the King of kings.

Shout to the Lord, all the earth; break out in praise and sing for joy!

Psalm 98:4

10) Just Thank and Praise God! He is with you.

Make today great by living with hope and a positive attitude. Woo Hoo!

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Jeremiah 29:11

Let’s pray…

A Prayer Asking God to Help You Make Today Great

Heavenly Father, thank you for the blessing of this day. Thank you for my bed, my home, clean fresh water, my family, and every other beautiful blessing, big and small.

Please forgive me for the many times I start the day with frustrations and challenges on my mind. The days I’ve let a negative attitude take over before I even open my eyes.

I believe that if You gave me this day, You have good plans for it, and I don’t have to do them alone. You promise to be with me. You promise to give me the strength I need. You promise to light the way before me and give me what I need to accomplish Your will.

Please help me apply these things to my mornings. I want to focus on You and do all that will help me KNOW, LOVE, TRUST, and OBEY You. Because I know and trust that Your ways are best and Your Spirit in my heart will always help me and make today great.

I thank and praise in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus. Amen.
