The Truth About Worship, Obedience, and God’s Love for You

How are worship, obedience, and God’s love related?
What would you say if someone asked you, “Why do you worship God? Why do you believe it’s important to trust and obey Jesus?”
Take a moment or two to really think about it.
Do you worship God because…
- It’s the way you were brought up.
- The Bible tells us to.
- You enjoy gathering with like-minded people.
- You believe worship is good for your children.
- You want to be a good person.
- Going to church and trying to be a good person just seem like the right thing to do.
Although those are all understandable responses, there is one answer that is better than all the rest.
The reason we worship, trust, and obey God is that…
It’s our response to who God is, all He does, has done, and promises to do.
We worship, trust, and obey God because He is gracious and merciful love. Everything He has done in the past, does today, and will do in the future is an outpouring of His perfect love.
Yes, He is righteous and just, holy and beyond our understanding, but even those attributes come from His loving character.
Our worship and obedience are the way we surrender all we are and all we have to the One who loves us so much He sacrificed His “one and only Son, to save us.
Do you remember the last verse of the hymn – When I Survey the Wondrous Cross?
Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.
That’s worship. That’s following Jesus. Worship and obedience are the way we act on our heart, soul, mind, and strength, love for Him.
We love, because He first loved us.
1 John 4:19 (NASB)
Even when we don’t feel lovable. When we’re discouraged, lonely, and hurting. Or when life’s circumstances are really hard and you’re having a difficult time feeling the truth of God’s love.
Please pause and think about how very precious God says you are.
Think about it…
The One who is the beginning and the end. The One who needs nothing from you, still wants a relationship with you. He gave His Son, Jesus, and through Him, He promises to meet every one of your needs now and eternally.

Truth About God’s Love
This is real love—not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
1 John 4:10
Through Jesus’ incomprehensible sacrifice and Holy Spirit-given faith, you and I are forgiven and spared an eternity of the punishment we deserve.
That’s love! Real love. That’s God’s love — total and complete.
I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39
The enemy of our soul wants us to believe our sins are too great and God doesn’t care.
But Paul reminds us that although we can never be good enough to save ourselves, when we KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST God through faith in Jesus, nothing can separate us from His love.
No power. Not even Satan himself. Absolutely nothing can make God stop loving you.
May you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Ephesians 3:18–19
I love the explanation of these verses in the Life Application Bible:
God’s love is wide—it covers the breadth of our own experience and reaches out to the whole world. It is long—it continues the length of our lives. It is high—rising to the heights of our celebration and elation. His love is deep—reaching to the depths of discouragement, despair, and even death.
And that’s our reason to worship!
Paul continued with the following…
Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to Him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.
Ephesians 3:20–21
That’s how we worship.
It’s praising and glorifying God, who is unchanging, faithful, everlasting love — love that does not depend on our performance and will not end when we fail.
So, let’s worship and praise God for His love and ask for His continuous help to trust and obey fully.

Let’s pray.
A Prayer to Faithfully Respond to God’s Love
with Worship and Obedience
Heavenly Father, when I pause to look around and intentionally notice Your countless blessings, I see Your love everywhere. In every sunrise and sunset. In plants and critters. In people made in Your image.
You graciously and faithfully keep Your promise to provide what we need, knowing our greatest need was and is Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Through His life, death, and resurrection, we are set free from the power of sin and death.
You love each of us so much that You gave Him to save us from the eternal punishment we deserve.
How can I not worship You? You are worthy of all my love, my gratitude, and praise. I want to join with all the voices in heaven, proclaiming…
“You are worthy, O Lord our God,
to receive glory and honor and power.
For You created all things,
and they exist because You created what You pleased.”
Revelation 3:11
Please give me all I need to respond to Your love with worship lived out in obedience. I know Your ways are best. They are best for me and for all Your creation.
Thank you for loving me. Please help me live every moment of my life for Your glory. Amen.

The love you and I crave is found in the heart of God… Father, Son, and Spirit.
And that, my dear friends, is a reason to celebrate. It is why we want to trust, worship, and obey Him with surrendered lives.
The next time someone asks you, “Why do you worship God?”
You can reply, saying, “I love God because of all the countless ways He loves and cares for me. I’ve seen His love in Jesus, and it has changed me. I want to worship and obey Him because He always has been and always will be faithful to keep His promises.”
