The Beautiful Truth About Being a Child of God

Are you a child of God?

It’s not something you or I can do on our own. But it is something Jesus made possible and wants to do for us.

John wrote…

Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

John 1:12–13 (NIV)

Being born into God’s family through faith in Jesus is entirely a gift from God through the power of the Holy Spirit. We can reject His gift, but it is a gift. It can’t be earned nor is it deserved.

You are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:26

We receive God’s gift of life through His Spirit, when we surrender ourselves to Him through faith in Jesus. And God makes us members of His family, calling us His very own children.

See how very much our Father loves us, for He calls us His children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know Him. 

1 John 3:1

The Spirit inspired Paul to make sure we knew that saving faith is a gracious gift from a loving God.

It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God

Ephesians 2:8

Now that we know how God makes us His children, let’s look at the beautiful truth about being one of His children.

First of all, it means we are perfectly loved by a Father who is perfect love. So, it’s true that God is love and that He loves everyone. But it is also true that only those who have repented and received the gift of faith in Jesus are adopted into His family.

And God’s children are blessed with special family privileges…

Beautiful Truths About Being a Child of God

1. We have a perfect Father who loves and cares for us. (Matthew 5:48, 1 John 4:19)
2. Through Jesus, we have been set free from the power of sin and death. (Romans 8:1-2)
3. We are blessed to be part of the family of faith, siblings with all who KNOW, LOVE, and TRUST Jesus. (John 1:12)
4. We are given everything needed to live in the Father’s love for His glory. (Philippians 4:19)
5. We are promised an eternal future in heaven with God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and all our brothers and sisters in faith. (John 3:16)

A Prayer of Gratitude and Praise
I am a Child of God

Thank you, Father, for Jesus, my Lord and Savior. Thank you for being perfect love, and for sending Jesus to make a way for our sins to be removed. Thank you for giving me the gift of faith in Jesus and for the blessing of KNOWING, LOVING, and TRUSTING Your promises.

You didn’t need me, but Your Word says You wanted me. It’s overwhelming to realize that You know every tiny detail of my life. You see every fault and failure, and still, You forgave me and declared me Your child.

It makes me think of the line in the hymn, Rock of Ages, “Nothing in my hands I bring, simply to the cross I cling.” I was an unworthy orphan, and by grace and the work of Your Spirit in my life, I have been made a child of God.

Please forgive me for failing to obey You consistently. I want people to KNOW Jesus, my Lord and Savior, because of the way I LOVE, TRUST, and OBEY You. I want people to see Your love in me. And I want to love my faith siblings as You want me to. No one likes it when their children argue.

Please fill me with Your love. Please give me a heart full of worship and praise. Please bless me with everything I need to live intentionally for Your glory.

I surrender myself to You, Father. I praise You for saving me by Your grace. You are my Abba Father. I am Yours through my Lord and Savior, Jesus, in whose name I pray. Amen.

The enemy wants us to doubt the Father’s love. He consistently taunts us and tells us that our sins are too great or that a loving God would not allow our suffering.

But our Father is the perfect parent.

As Max Lucado shared…

“God loves you just the way you are, but He refuses to leave you that way. He wants you to be just like Jesus.”

Praise God! He’s working with and within us to mold us and make us blessed members of the family.

So, when the enemy shares his lies, keep these quotes handy to resist him with God’s TRUTH…

♥ I am a child of God, and His grace is sufficient for me.

♥ I am a child of God. He will never leave or forsake me.

♥ I am a child of God, blessed by His grace, mercy, and love.

♥ I am a child of God. I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

♥ I am a child of God. I have an eternal future filled with hope.

Take some time to celebrate today because you are a child of God. By grace, you are a precious member of His family.
