Living with the right attitudes is essential for anyone wanting to enjoy a peaceful life.

How often do you get to the end of the day, realizing that it would have gone much better if only you or your children, spouse, boss, friend, neighbor, or parent had not been so grumpy, ungrateful, angry, or annoying?

Bad attitudes can make it feel like our peace is just beyond reach. It can be our own or someone else’s, but bad attitudes always make a peaceful life seem impossible.

If you and I want to experience God’s peace daily, we need to change our attitudes. So, here are a dozen be-attitudes to help us reach our peaceful goals.

A Dozen Be-Attitudes
for a Peaceful Life

Gratitude helps us focus on what you have. Also, celebrating what we have makes us less likely to complain about what we don’t have. Being thankful can give you peace.

And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts … and always be thankful.

Colossians 3:15

When life and the people around us are difficult, prayer surrenders the frustration and feelings of helplessness to the One who is will and able to help and guide us. We can trust the Lord to respond with love and care.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6–7

You and I can’t have wisdom without knowing God’s will. Studying God’s Word, knowing His truth, and applying it to our lives will help us enjoy peace-providing Godly wisdom.

The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.

James 3:17 (ESV)

I live in a neat and organized house because Rev was neat and organized. He had a labeled place for everything, and everything was in its assigned place. But you should see my desk. I’m a stacker. Piles of papers with lists and ideas.

The truth is that physical clutter causes mental clutter, which in turn destroys peace. God created order in the world and wants us to enjoy orderly peace in the church, our relationships, and our homes.

God is not a God of confusion but a God of peace.

1 Corinthians 14:33 (NCV)

There’s a reason it’s called “peace and quiet.” But quiet is hard to find in our electronic, technology-flooded environment. So, let’s take regular breaks from the noise and enjoy a few moments of silence with the Lord through His Word and prayer.

The Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you. “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.

John 14:26–27

Be humble and refuse to compare yourself to anyone! God made you unique and wonderful. You are His masterpiece. So, use your God-given gifts and don’t let comparisons rob you of your joy or your peace.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.

Psalm 139:14 (ESV) and James 3:13

On my own, I’m not courageous. I’ve struggled with fear and anxiety for too much of my life. But praise God, years ago, He taught me to surrender my fear (as often as necessary), by holding His Word in my heart. His Spirit is able to give us the courage we need.

Be strong and courageous; don’t be terrified or afraid of them. For the Lord your God is the one who will go with you; he will not leave you or abandon you.”

Deuteronomy 31:6 (CSB)

Waiting on people is hard; waiting on God can feel impossible. Delays and interruptions have the potential to plunder our peace. With God’s help, patience is possible. And by God’s grace, having patience can help us enjoy the peace we desire.

God will strengthen you with His own great power so that you will not give up when troubles come, but you will be patient.

Colossians 1:11

Relationships are more peaceful when we encourage each other. Remember, it takes 10 positive statements to counteract 1 negative one. So, be an encourager and be kind … it will make

Since God chose you to be the holy people He loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

Colossians 3:12

It’s impossible to enjoy God’s peace when we’re holding on to anger and reliving past offenses. It’s one of the reasons God tells us to forgive as He forgives.

Bear with each other, and forgive each other. If someone does wrong to you, forgive that person because the Lord forgave you.

Colossians 3:13

I’ve learned that speaking and acting with love blesses the giver almost as much as it blesses the recipient. It is a wonderful way to add peace and joy to our lives.

Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.

Romans 12:9–10

Look for tiny things that make you smile. Find joy in simple pleasures. Be happy. It’s amazing how just a moment of happiness can calm your heart and give you peace.

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him.

Let’s pray…

A Prayer to Have Be-Attitudes that Lead to Peace

Father God, thank you for Your Word. Through it, we can know You and what You want for us. No one is an accident to You. We are each uniquely created by You and for You. Individuals born for this time and place to accomplish Your purposes.

We are guilty of comparing ourselves with one another. We often let our emotions and attitudes dictate our words and actions. Please forgive us. Please forgive me.

Your Word clearly tells us the importance of living with godly be-attitudes. It tells us that when we SEEK You and TRUST You through Jesus and Your promises, we will enjoy freedom and peace that goes beyond our understanding.

I want to spend quiet time with You each day. I ask that the Spirit will help me live each day with gratitude and wisdom. May I make it a goal to be organized inside and out, encouraging, forgiving, patient, courageous, loving, and kind. And may I find joy in being the person You created me to be in humble obedience.

May I live for Your glory. In the precious name of Jesus. Amen.

Rev. Chuck Swindoll wrote…

Words can never adequately convey the incredible impact of our attitudes toward life. The longer I live, the more convinced I become that life is 10 percent what happens to us and 90 percent how we respond to it.

So, how’s your attitude?

Would you like to enjoy a more peaceful life?

Maybe it’s time to incorporate some helpful be-attitudes.

We would love to pray for you.
