It’s a blessing to live in a nation that was founded on the following…

We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

America 250 remembers and celebrates a group of wise and courageous men who signed the Declaration of Independence with the resolve that “these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, Free and Independent States.” 

Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, John Adams, John Hancock, Benjamin Franklin, and 51 other patriots committed to a document that began the grand experiment that is the United States of America.

God worked in and through these men to form a nation based on every individual’s equal right to life, autonomy, and freedom to pursue happiness.

To celebrate America 250, I’d like to share some verses, quotes, and a prayer to recognize the beautiful blessing we were given all those years ago.

For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.

We are truly blessed to live in a nation where we are free to work hard, using our God-given gifts and abilities to pursue His plans and purposes. We don’t have to be confined by our circumstances or environment.

We have evidence from countless individuals who have come from painful and difficult childhoods to achieve great things and help others.

So may we, by God’s grace, hold on to the words of Christ…

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.

A Prayer to Celebrate America 250

Heavenly Father, Your Word says that You know the end from the beginning. You knew all that the United States of America would be before You created a thing. You worked in the hearts and minds of men, many of whom had placed their trust in You, to form a nation that had never been tried in contemporary times.

In some ways, it reminds me of the 12 tribes of Israel, all living in one land, caring for one another. Israel chose a king and struggled to continue in community. The patriots here wrote a constitution that encouraged individual states to work together under Your leadership and direction.

For 250 years, we’ve been able to live freely pursuing the plans and purposes You have placed in our hearts. Oh, we haven’t done it perfectly. We allowed slavery for many years. We’ve at times given in to the foolishness of sin. We’ve chosen war when peace could have prevailed.

But again and again, there have been people who have applied Your Word…

Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

And many of us are coming to You once again, praying with humble hearts filled with grief and repentance for the sinfulness we see in ourselves and in our nation. Please forgive us and give us the courage and strength we need to restore our land to all that You want for us.

We will forever SEEK You and Your Kingdom, to KNOW, TRUST, and OBEY Your will. By Your grace and with the Spirit’s help, we will LOVE You with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strength, and we will love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

In Jesus holy name, we pray. Amen.

  1. Have a blessed 4th, Deb. Our nation needs prayer like no other time as we seem to be drifting away from God. However, I know we can rest secure in His great love and trust in His plans.
