Feel Unlovable? You Need to Claim These Proven Promises
Do you ever have days when you feel unlovable? Days when you can’t stop thinking about your weaknesses, flaws, and failures. Days when your self-awareness turns into self-focus, and the things bothering you are louder than those blessing you.
Me too. More often than I’d like.
The times we feel unlovable may be one of the reasons the Lord inspired Paul to write…
Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Philippians 4:8 (ESV)
I’ve learned that I can return to excellent and praiseworthy thoughts more quickly when I focus on God’s proven promises, like…
God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
Romans 5:8
And…
I am writing to all who have been called by God the Father, who loves you and keeps you safe in the care of Jesus Christ.
Jude 1:1
I don’t believe our Heavenly Father ever wants us to dwell on our flaws and failures. His Word tells us that He wants us to surrender them to Him in repentance and trust His love and forgiveness.
We should never feel unlovable before God, because His love is unfailing, unconditional, and everlasting.
No matter what we’ve done, where we’ve been, or how we feel, God wants us to cling to His promises and remember how much He loves us. Not because of what we think, say, or do, but because of who He is.
Love is who God is, and He chooses to love you and me.
So, let’s turn to His proven promises that were true yesterday, are true today, and will be true tomorrow and always…

A Prayer to Help When You Feel Unlovable
Father God, I’m having one of those days. It’s hard to think about anything other than my flaws and failures. I feel like I’m getting on the last nerve of the people around me. I’m impatient with myself and others.
The enemy keeps reminding me of my many faults, even those I confessed and repented long ago. And when I look in the mirror, I’m reminded of the many ways I’ve failed to care for myself and my health the way You want.
I’m sorry, Father. You tell me I am loved and that You want me to think about that truth, along with the things You call honorable and excellent. You tell me that You know everything about me, and still You willingly call me Your child through Jesus’ sacrifice.
[Your] love is patient and kind. [It] is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. [Your] love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. (1 Corinthians 13:4–7)
Your love never fails! So, on days when I feel unlovable, please help me cling to Your promises. Fill my heart with Your Spirit. Help me focus on Jesus and the countless blessings I have in and through Him. And give me everything I need to honor You, Abba Father, as I praise You daily for making me Your child. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

God sees so many things to love in you. He sees gifts and abilities that align with His plans and purposes. He sees the beauty of someone He created for His glory. He sees your future filled with hope.
If you feel unlovable today, take those feelings to Him in prayer.
Remember…
You belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.
