What is your foundation for life? What's most important? What do you invest in most? Here are verses and prayers to make your foundation strong and reliable. #FaithinJesus #BibleStudy #Blessings #Hope

There’s a new house being built in our neighborhood. They started by digging down through the pliable earth, set forms, and poured a concrete foundation.

Every building needs a strong foundation if we want it to stand through the storms of life.

So, let me ask you…

What is your foundation for life?

  • Your family and friends?
  • Your knowledge and education?
  • Your career?
  • Your home, your car, or your bank account?
  • Your faith?

Yes, relationships are wonderful. God created us to live with others.  But people let us down, move away, or leave us. Relationships aren’t a reliable foundation.

Knowledge and education are helpful but information can change. It can be declared out of date or falsified shaking our foundation and leaving us on unstable ground.

God created us to work and most of us spend a large percentage of our lives doing our jobs. But just ask anyone who has been downsized or disabled and it’s easy to understand that careers cannot be our firm foundation.

And possessions are clearly unreliable foundations.

Finally, this may surprise you . . . but faith alone is not a strong and reliable foundation either. Faith “ebbs and flows.” And it is only as strong as the source of that faith.

And the only source of faith able to give us a strong and reliable foundation for life is Jesus!

Paul wrote:

For God has already placed Jesus Christ as the one and only foundation, and no other foundation can be laid.

1 Corinthians 3:11 (GNT)

Pastor John Snyder wrote, “Our foundation is not our faith; rather our faith is built upon the foundation of Jesus Christ.” and “Our faith is solid because our foundation is solid. It’s based on the truth of Jesus’ resurrection and backed by the gold of God’s trustworthy character.”

Amen!

And Jesus, the One on whom our faith is built said:

“These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.

Matthew 7:24–25 (MSG)

The only way you and I can have a strong and reliable foundation for life is to KNOW, TRUST, and FOLLOW Jesus; to build our faith on the real and living person of Jesus Christ . . . unchangeable, undefeated, unending, and unequaled.

Yes, “our faith is solid because our foundation is solid.”

Pause today to think about what’s most important to you. Where are you investing your time and energy?

People, knowledge, careers, and comforts are certainly blessings, but Jesus is the only source of faith offering a strong and reliable foundation that promises to bless us today, tomorrow, and always.

A Prayer to Build Your Foundation for Life on Jesus

Father, thank you for Your unchanging unfailing love. Your Word reminds me that I can count on Your faithfulness no matter how I feel or how things seem. My faith is not based on the opinions of people but on a firm foundation of Jesus, my Lord and Savior.

You inspired David to write, “You, Lord, are our rock and our salvation, our fortress where we will never be shaken.” Psalm 62:2

Father, I thank you for inviting us to come and lay our problems and sorrows before You.
Thank you for Your promise to help us and give us everything we need. So, we join in the prayer . . . “I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill His purpose for me. He will send help from heaven to rescue me . . . my God will send forth His unfailing love and faithfulness. Psalm 57:2-3

Nothing is too difficult for You. I can enjoy hard-to-understand peace because I know You are willing and able to meet every need and calm every fear.

Thank you for Jesus. I pray that by Your grace I will always remember that I can run to trust Him my rock and my salvation. I can make Him the foundation of my life. I praise You this day and forever and always. Amen.

I want to close today with Psalm 111…

Praise the Lord!
I will thank the Lord with all my heart
as I meet with His godly people.
How amazing are the deeds of the Lord!
All who delight in Him should ponder them.
Everything He does reveals His glory and majesty.
    His righteousness never fails.
He causes us to remember His wonderful works.
How gracious and merciful is our Lord!
He gives food to those who fear Him;
    He always remembers His covenant.
He has shown his great power to His people
by giving them the lands of other nations.
All He does is just and good,
and all His commandments are trustworthy.
They are forever true,
to be obeyed faithfully and with integrity.
He has paid a full ransom for His people.
He has guaranteed His covenant with them forever.
What a holy, awe-inspiring name He has!
Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom.
All who obey is commandments will grow in wisdom.
Praise Him forever!

The Lord is gracious and merciful. He is the Messiah, the One who paid a full ransom for His people. He is the One who gave everything to make it possible for us to have a strong foundation for life that lasts forever and always.

May God bless you and give you everything you need to build your faith on Jesus, the one true foundation for life.

  1. This is a wonderful message and I have a feeling it’s not by an incident that I was just listening to a Max Lucado sermon about the Foundation….lol
And as I was reading your blog, started to have a feeling that God is trying to get my attention. Long, long time ago, I got this passage from my Aunt and it followed me through my life.
Yes, indeed, finally now days I started to pay attention to our foundation, Jesus. And learning through life His guiding hand, showing the way to walk in His way ????????❤️
    Blessings my friend

    1. It is a journey of learning, isn’t it? So thankful for His patience with me. And so thankful He is the firm foundation for our faith! Blessings!
