How to Have Faith that will Give You More Peace

People everywhere are looking for ways to experience more peace in their lives. But there’s a battle going on inside each of us; a battle for our peace of mind.
Sure, the enemy incessantly works to keep people from knowing and loving Jesus and rob them of their eternal futures, but if he can’t succeed with that, robbing them of their peace in the Savior today is good enough.
And he’s a pro, isn’t he?
Satan disrupts our lives with painful problems and attacks our minds with distracting “what ifs.”
All to make us question God’s grace, mercy, and love. All to fill us with doubts, fear, and anxiety.
So, we need to know how to resist his efforts to interfere with our daily peace.
We need to focus on the promises that help us remain confident that God is completely trustworthy.
I don’t always offer trust quickly and easily. Sadly, some past experiences have taught me that not everyone is honest and reliable. So, for me, trust takes time because it’s impossible to be certain that a new acquaintance is going to be consistently honest, kind, and caring.
Trust takes time and interaction… with people and with the Lord. That’s why the more time we spend with Him, the more certain we will be that He is trustworthy.
Through His Word, prayer, and living out our faith, we learn that God keeps His promises. He is who He says He is.
How do I know?
Remember, I’ve told you that I don’t trust easily. Satan relentlessly stirred up fear and doubt in my life.
But when I committed to spending time in God’s Word and prayer every day, I realized that I’m not on my own to figure out who I can trust…
I cried out, “I am slipping!”
Psalm 94:18–19
but Your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me.
When doubts filled my mind,
Your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.
I was reminded that Jesus fulfilled all of God’s promises…
“Why are you frightened?” He asked. “Why are your hearts filled with doubt? Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it’s really me.
Luke 24:38–39a
God doesn’t give up. He wants a relationship with each of us even more than we want one with Him.
Yes, He allows circumstances to challenge us at times so He can bring us to the place where we desperately desire the peace of mind that we can only have through faith in Jesus.
Faith that grows over time and through experience. Not through a fancy plan or special formula, but by spending time with the Lord through His Word, prayer, and a community of faith-filled followers.
We need time in His Word to know His trustworthy promises…
Give your burdens to the Lord, and He will take care of you.
Psalm 55:22
He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You,
Isaiah 26:3
all whose thoughts are fixed on You!
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33
We need to talk with Him in prayer.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Philippians 4:6 (NASB)

We need to live in community with faith-filled followers of Jesus…
Let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.
Hebrews 10:25
Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom He gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.
Colossians 3:16

Let’s pray…
A Prayer for Faith that will Give You More Peace
Father God, Your Word invites us to pray about every challenge and concern. Paul told the people in Philippi to “Tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.” (Philippians 4:6–7)
When Jesus’ followers acted out their doubt and fear, He often asked, “Why do you have so little faith?” (Matthew 6:30)
I want to overcome the enemy’s tauntings and temptations with the truth about Jesus. I want to resist him, reminding him that Jesus is the foundation of my faith, and that KNOWING, LOVING, and TRUSTING my Savior are the things I need most in life.
Please increase my faith. Give me a SEEKer’s heart to not only know about You, but to know Your heart and Your character. You are perfect LOVE. You want me to have a faith that gives me lasting peace.
Through the power of Your Spirit, work a lasting desire within me to know and trust Your promises. Help me remember to come to You in prayer about everything. And surround me with a community of people who are filled with Your love.
May we encourage one another and let the wonderful truth about Jesus fill us to overflowing. I pray this all in His holy name. Amen.

It sounds easy, but too often we let the noise of this world distract and unsettle us. That’s why the Word tells us to resist and rebuke the enemy.
It’s not as complicated as we often think. We don’t need a special study or fancy formula. We just need faith that is grounded on the solid rock of God’s promises fulfilled through Jesus, built on prayer, and affirmed in a community of faith.
Taking time with the Lord to grow in faith is the blessing that will give us more peace.
We would love to pray for you.

I would love to say that I live in ” peaceful moments” all of the time. I don’t!! I do admire that you shared that you have struggled with this too at times. This morning I was reading Psalm 94:18 during my devotional time. I do like the suggestions you gave. Deb, I am a morning person, and it is in the early morning that I find it most peaceful to do my scripture reading and spending my best time with the Lord. Thank you for your wisdom and for the things you suggested. I appreciate you so much. I pray that you have a beautiful week and stay safe. Happy Labor Day.
Thank you, Sue! Yes, I’ve been challenged by anxiety for much of my life. I am so thankful to have finally learned that the One who is peace will graciously give it to me when I surrender my anxiety to Him. I sometimes have to do it several times a day, but He is faithful! We are so blessed! I pray you’re having a wonderful week, dear friend!
