A Reliable Truth for Life is that God is Trustworthy

Things seem to be changing faster than ever. We don't know who or what we can trust anymore. But God is forever and always trustworthy. We can count on Him.

Do you trust easily or does your trust have to be earned?

I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt and trust easily but if that trust is broken . . . well, let’s just say I’m much more cautious after that. My family knows that nothing upsets me more quickly or deeply than when someone lies to me.

I decided to look up the definition of the word “trust” and found:

  1. to rely on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing.
  2. to hope with confident expectation.
  3. to regard a person or thing as dependable.

It sounds a lot like faith, doesn’t it?

These two things cannot change: God cannot lie when He makes a promise, and He cannot lie when He makes an oath. These things encourage us who came to God for safety. They give us strength to hold on to the hope we have been given.

Hebrews 6:18 (NCV)

God is trustworthy! He always has been and He always will be worthy of our trust! And that’s faith . . . trusting in the One who is truly trustworthy.

In Psalm 33, David praised God and declared Him trustworthy…

For the word of the Lord holds true,
and we can trust everything He does.
He loves whatever is just and good;
the unfailing love of the Lord fills the earth.

Psalm 33:4–5

That’s good news, isn’t it? Whatever God says we can count on to be trustworthy.

  • He doesn’t change His mind. Hebrews 6:17
  • He never lies. Numbers 23:19
  • His word stands forever. Isaiah 40:8
  • He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8

David said it this way…

But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever;
His intentions can never be shaken.

Psalm 33:11

I believe that’s one of the things that drew me to faith.

Something you and I can count on here on earth is that things change. Our circumstances change. Technology changes. Seasons change. Health changes. Feelings change. People change. Yes, change is a given.

But not with God. He has given us the absolute trustworthy eternal truth.

Jesus is the Word that lasts forever.

John wrote…

In the beginning the Word already existed.
    The Word was with God,
    and the Word was God.

The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and His life brought light to everyone.

The Word became human and made His home among us.
He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.
And we have seen His glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

“I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God.
“I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.”

John 1:1, 4, 14 and Revelation 1:1a, 8

The Word of God never changes. We can trust that everything God says to be the absolute truth and in a world where everything is always changing and where people often lie, God’s Word and Jesus, God’s Word made flesh, are the foundation that is eternally trustworthy . . . one on which we can always rely.

Let’s pray…

A Prayer of Praise – God is Trustworthy

Father, thank you! I praise You! In an uncertain changeable world where sinful people are fickle and unpredictable, it’s hard to know who or what we can truly count on and trust.

But I know I can rely on You. You never change. You are strong and able, unfailing and faithful. You give me hope and by Your grace, I will always depend on You.

You are the Living Word. Triune God. Creator. Savior. Spirit. You are the Alpha and Omega. All eternity is in Your hands.

And yet, You care about me. You care about every person You’ve created. Your love is so great that You gave Yourself for me. Your Word says, “Jesus gave His life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live.” (Galatians 1:4) Through Him we have eternal comfort and wonderful hope. (2 Thessalonians 2:16) You are gracious and merciful, loving and faithful. (Psalm 86:15)

I thank and praise You. You are trustworthy. By the power of Your Spirit and Your Word, You have made it possible for me to KNOW, TRUST, and LOVE You. I give myself to You. Please help me live this day for Your glory. Amen.

Things seem to be changing faster than ever. We don't know who or what we can trust anymore. But God is forever and always trustworthy. We can count on Him.

David ended Psalm 33 with these words…

We put our hope in the Lord.
He is our help and our shield.
In Him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in His holy name.
Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord,
for our hope is in you alone.

Psalm 33:20–22

When you and I trust the Lord and place our hope in Him . . . we have all we need to live with joy. When His unfailing love surrounds us . . . we have what we need to love others.

If you are going through a season of change, trust the One who is unchanging. Count on His promises to see you through.

Hold His Word close to your heart…

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise.

Hebrews 10:23

May God bless you and fill you with hope as you trust His love and His promises.

  1. Sue Jackson says:

    Deb,
You are so right when you say how it upsets and hurts you when they lie to you. I know it is the same for me. When someone breaks the trust I have in them, the hurt and, I admit, anger is devastating. I am like you, I will always be cautious when around that person again. You mentioned “seasons of change.” I am in a season like that now. And, it is very hard. Thankfully, I do have God, who never changes. I hold onto that promise every day. It is hard to feel loved when one is rejected. It feels like the whole world is rejecting you. I am so thankful that God doesn’t reject me, but comforts me and strengthens me and most of all, his love for me is eternal. God Bless you my friend for these comforting posts that you bring to us. This truly is such a sweet network of Christian friends. Much love and blessings to you.

    Sue

    1. Karin Whitaker says:

Thank you, Deb, you really said this well!

      1. Thank you, Karin! It’s wonderful to hear from you and I truly appreciate your encouragement. ! I pray you’re doing well. Blessings and hugs!

    2. I am sorry you are going through this difficult season, Sue. Rejection is so very painful. I’m praying and asking the Lord to give you everything you need as I have experienced that pain and God’s healing grace . . . not of the relationship but of my heart. You’re right, it is a wonderful assurance to know that God is faithful and that He will never reject us. God be with you and bless you!

      1. Deb,
Thank you for your prayers. They help. We all need for others to pray for us. I have you and your family and the Rev. in my prayers as well.
One important thing I can say and know in my heart about these “seasons of change”! They help me to grow in my faith journey and in my relationship with God. Drawing me closer and closer.
I can rejoice in them as well, knowing that God is in charge!! And that he loves me!

    3. Kathy Francescon says:

Oh Sue, God will never reject you and neither will we, your friends and sisters in Christ! I loved your comment, “This truly is such a sweet network of Christian friends.”
What a lovely statement for all of us to share! And I am praying that the “season of change” you are going through will bloom out in beauty and blessings of joy!

      1. Thank you so much Kathy! You are such a kind and compassionate lady. One thing I have learned through “seasons of change” is that these things make me a stronger person and bring me closer to God. That is the goal. If it takes these seasons, then I am ready to go through them. I have had many in my life and each one deepens my relationship with God and also helps me to understand and to have empathy for others who are going through things too.
I can tell that you have had your seasons as well because of your deep compassion and understanding. God bless you my friend and all of the other ladies in this circle of friends that Deb has led us to.

  2. Good morning! What a blessing you are!

    1. Thank you so very much, Melissa. Your kindness is truly a blessing. God be with you today and always.

  3. Counting on God, today and every day, to keep His promises, Deb. That knowledge keeps me hopeful and willing to move forward with Him by my side.
    Blessings!

    1. I completely agree, Martha! I can’t imagine trying to do a single moment without Him. The more I spend time in His Word the more I am convinced that He is forever and always trustworthy. Blessings!

  4. Kathy Francescon says:

Amen Deb! Trust and faith in God go hand in hand! And not sure who authored this quote, but it is so true! “All I have seen, teaches me to trust the CREATOR, for all I have not seen!”
You have been on my mind and in my prayers, dear friend. Trusting God now, for you and Rev.

    1. What a great quote, Kathy! I had to look it up but found that it is from Ralph Waldo Emerson. It’s truly and encouraging word. Thank you so much for your prayers they mean so very much to us. God bless you, my friend!

      1. Kathy Francescon says:

Thank You, Deb! I will backtrack and give R.W. Emerson credit for the quote! Good to know! I love quotes, and some I pick up never give the authors names! I’m sure he is credited with lots of awesome quotes! Going to research him myself now!! I do think of you so often and how you are always encouraging us and letting us lean on you, so to speak, and I pray that you have someone to support and encourage and lean on, too. Of course, I know we all depend on God, but at times an earthly shoulder or a hug sure helps. I’m sure all your readers will join me in sending you lots of hugs and all the love and prayers our hearts can hold for you and Rev. You are such a beautiful blessing to all of us! God bless you, friend and “Guidance” Counselor! ????????????

        1. Oh, Kathy, your words blessed my heart. Thank you so very much! The Lord has been most gracious in sending us people to bless and encourage us. We are so thankful for every prayer, word of encouragement, and hug either virtual or in person. God bless you, sweet friend!
