7 verses I hold close when I need to remember God's peace even when life is hard. He is able to give incomprehensible unimaginable peace.

I’m excited to dig deep into peace this month.

If you’d known me a little over a decade ago, you’d have said I was the last person in the world who should be talking about peace.

I was diagnosed with high anxiety depression, living in a constant state of agitation and worry.

Peace always seemed like it was just beyond my reach. I knew my lack of peace was a faith issue, but the truth about life’s “trials and sorrows” pushed the possibility of peace right out the door.

I knew Jesus words:

“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

They just didn’t translate into my everyday living.

I believed Jesus had overcome the world for my eternal future but I didn’t believe His overcoming meant I could be an overcomer.

I doubted the power of God’s peace in my life.

Truth…

Life is hard and there are plenty of things to worry about.

Maybe you’re worried about something now:

  • Your health.
  • Your children.
  • Your finances.
  • Your marriage.
  • Your friendships.
  • Your parents.

Add things you hear on the nightly news and it’s not surprising that more people are being medicated for depression and anxiety than every before.

I’m going to make myself vulnerable here and tell you that although medication made me feel better it wasn’t able to give me peace.

God’s peace finally came as the result of a long journey through of grief and pain. I needed His help just to get through the day. So, I spent every free minute reading my Bible. I cried out and God poured out.

He graciously allowed me to feel His presence and bit by bit allowed me to know His power to give me peace . . . incomprehensible unimaginable peace.

So today, I want to share 7 verses I hold close when I need to remember God’s peace even when life is hard.

7 verses I hold close when I need to remember God's peace even when life is hard. He is able to give incomprehensible unimaginable peace.

7 Powerful Verses That Will Give You God’s Peace

God is With You.

Wherever you go and whatever your circumstances, you are never alone. God knows every detail of your struggle. Nothing is hidden from Him and nothing surprises Him.

He leads you. He protects your soul.

A blessing of peace with Him.

Your Spirit is everywhere I go.
 I cannot escape your presence.
If I go up to heaven, you will be there.
If I go down to the place of death, you will be there.
If I go east where the sun rises
or go to live in the west beyond the sea,
even there You will take my hand and lead me.
Your strong right hand will protect me.
Psalm 139:7–10

God is Sovereign.

God is on His throne. He reigns over all things.

Nothing happens outside of His permission.

That has always been hard for me. Why would God allow His children to suffer pain? But I’m learning to trust the bigger picture of His will and trust that God is able to carry me through whatever He allows. He is in control.

A truth of unlimited peace.

The Lord is king! He is robed in majesty. Indeed, the Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength. The world stands firm and cannot be shaken. Psalm 93:1

7 verses I hold close when I need to remember God's peace even when life is hard. He is able to give incomprehensible unimaginable peace.

God is Eternal.

Problems are Temporary.

It can be hard to have an eternal perspective with your feet planted in the present. But with God’s help and your focus on enjoying His forever presence doing today with peace becomes a blessed possibility.

A promise of eternal peace.

We have small troubles for a while now, but they are helping us gain an eternal glory that is much greater than the troubles. We set our eyes not on what we see but on what we cannot see. What we see will last only a short time, but what we cannot see will last forever. 2 Corinthians 4:17–18

God is Preparing

The forever home God is preparing with Him includes the promise that every tear will be wiped away, and there will be no more death, sorrow, or pain.

A hope of enduring peace.

I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among His people! He will live with them, and they will be His people. God Himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” Revelation 3:21

God is Guarding

Quiet time with God is like a hedge of peace around each day. Laying concerns down before Him and trusting He will give everything you need that day.

A comforting indescribable peace.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6–7

7 verses I hold close when I need to remember God's peace even when life is hard. He is able to give incomprehensible unimaginable peace.

God is Accomplishing

The Lord is always at work around and within you. He is able to give you peace even when everything around you feels overwhelming.

A prayer that gives peace.

Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:20

God is Loving

God is for you. He loves you. He wants you to enjoy true and lasting peace. So much so that He provided everything you need. Everything.

A gracious gift of peace.

If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since He did not spare even His own Son but gave Him up for us all, won’t He also give us everything else?  Romans 8:31–32

I hope these verses bless you with peace.

God is . . . with you, sovereign, eternal, preparing, guarding, accomplishing, and loving.

He is able to give you peace. Enough to overcome any problem you face today.

Leave your prayer requests…

May we pray for you

and pray for others who have left requests.

  1. My favorite of the ones you listed is Phil. 3:6-7. But my all time favorite is: John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

    1. Kelly, what a wonderful addition to the list. It is so reassuring that Jesus gives us peace that will conquer fear and give peace to our troubled hearts. Amen!

I think depression is the worst thing to suffer when you are a Christian, you seem like a coward, a hypocrite and it becomes so overwhelming . Worse when no one understands what is happening to you. Thank you for your openness in this piece. I constantly seek that peace when I am at my lows because I do freak out lol. God bless you

  16. I needed to be reminded of these things tonight and I know for certain it is confirmation from God because Philippians 4:6-7 is very dear to my heart, as the whole bible is, but you know how God will give those that just stand out and appeal to your spirit in certain seasons. Well, that’s kinda how I come fall in love with this verse more and more every time God sends it to me. You see? Jesus called my mom home alil over 2 years ago. I had a pretty rough childhood and had a lot I held against my mother and I wasn’t sure if she felt my forgiveness when he called her home. We were close and spent a lot of time since I’ve been an adult and she finally calmed down a bit, but I wasn’t sure if she knew I forgive her. I wasn’t even sure if I knew I forgive her.
She carried a note card with that verse in my hand writing in her wallet for years because she was an extremely anxious person. I think some times she felt that God wanted to punish her for all the things she had done wrong, so I felt the spirit wanted her to just talk to him about it and knew this verse would encourage that. When my mother’s earthly vessel was no longer living, I feel she was at peace with going home. I fought with it for a long time about what she must have been thinking before she was called home and how I could have done so many things differently. I struggled with her experiencing my forgiveness and if I had told her sincerely or not. She had put me through the closest to hell I will ever be, but love covers all that. One day when she was still here with me, she asked me to rewrite the verse in her wallet, and I had done what’s she asked, but got distracted and never give it to her. God never intended on my mother having that second one even tho I had a special message on the back for her about how much I loved and forgive her for everything she put me through. He knew that I needed that verse more then than I ever had. I needed to read the message on the back so that I could be at peace with knowin that it did not take earthly death to forgive my mother. I didn’t wait until it was too late. I knew that God made her feel my love. It was confirmation. When I read the message, I knew then that I had forgiven her because love covers sin and I loved her so much, no matter the things she had done or the many fights we had. I no longer dwell on those things. I hold tight to the “I love yous” and smiles we shared. Idk if someone needed to hear this, but I know God is very intentional, so if you are reading this, know that forgiveness doesn’t come with a price, only peace and know that if you have someone you need to forgive, do it now because waiting another second will only make it that much harder on you. It makes you bitter and angry. Sometimes that person has already forgotten and doesn’t even care and you would think that that should make you more angry because you could think, “Oh, they hurt me and they don’t even care or remember”, but look at you all worked up and upset over it. Bitter and hanging out in the darkness and God said no child of his has to abide in darkness. Do it because you want peace and you want to move on. Do it because you want to be closer to God and grow spiritually. Do it because Jesus wants you to take part in all the many blessings the cross that He died on brings you. He doesn’t want you bitter. He wants to laugh and have a fun, enjoyable relationship with you. Do it because your light can’t shine with all that hiding it. Your light from through the Holy Spirit is brighter than any darkness the enemy has for you! Thank you so much for posting this post. I needed it to sharpen my edges and fule my fire. Many blessings being spoken over you! Thank you so much! Keep being the hands and feet of Jesus because all your experiences even the smallest ones, can encourage someone else. So thankful for you and your post! God bless!
