How Jesus Came to Show People God’s Perfect Unfailing Love

Jesus came, suffered, died, and rose again to show us God's perfect unfailing love; not because of what we do or say but because He chooses to love us.

God’s love for you is perfect and unfailing!

“Think of the purest, most all-consuming love you can imagine. Now multiply that love by an infinite amount—that is the measure of God’s love for you.” ~ Dieter F. Uchtdorf

As we get closer to Christmas, I want to look away from the trappings of the holiday to focus all my attention on the One who…

…gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16

The verse begins with…

“This is how much God loved the world…”

Not just the world at large, but every single one of us personally and individually.

David wrote…

You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
    They cannot be numbered!

Psalm 139:15, 17

And Peter wrote…

Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.

1 Peter 5:7

God loves unique, individual, one-of-a-kind you.

God doesn’t love you because…

• you go to church.
• you follow the rules.
• you do your best.
• you’re charming and lovable.

God loves you because…

• He chooses to love you. (1 Thessalonians 1:4)
• He created you. (Psalm 139:13)
• He is gracious and merciful. (Hebrews 4:16)
• He is love. (1 John 4:8)

God’s love was, is, and always will be perfect and unfailing.

Yet, ever since the serpent appeared in the Garden, the enemy has approached God’s perfectly loved children and hissed words of question and doubt.

Did God really say?
Would God really allow that if He truly loved you?
Can you really trust Him?

Then Jesus came and showed people God’s love. His perfect unfailing love.

Jesus is Emmanuel – God with us.

He makes it possible for us to confidently reject every doubt-filled taunt with His Word.

In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.

So the Word became human and made His home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.

No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.

John 1:1, 14a, 17

John MacArthur wrote:

“We tend to focus our attention at Christmas on the infancy of Christ. The greater truth of the holiday is His deity. More astonishing than a baby in the manger is the truth that this promised baby is the omnipotent Creator of the heavens and the earth!”

God the Son, Jesus, came to give His life for us and show us God’s love!

So, rather than listening to the hissing of doubt-filled questions, let’s spend the days ahead focused on the small ways God shows us His love every day. Let’s intentionally pay attention to things that may go unnoticed and pause to thank God for His perfect unfailing love.

Let’s thank Him for…

  • Each new day.
  • His presence.
  • A warm home.
  • His Word.
  • Indoor plumbing.
  • Prayer.
  • Food.
  • Sight. Hearing. Smell. Taste. Touch.
  • Health.
  • Clothes.
  • Family.
  • Forgiveness.
  • Friends.
  • The peace that passes understanding.
  • Seasons.
  • Talents, gifts, and abilities.
  • Plants and animals.
  • Mercy and grace.
  • Sun, moon, and stars.
  • LOVE!

And so much more!

Jesus came, suffered, died, and rose again to show us God's perfect unfailing love; not because of what we do or say but because He chooses to love us.

Let’s pause to pray…

A Prayer of Thanks for
God’s Perfect Unfailing Love

Father, Your unfailing love surrounds us every day. Since the beginning of time, You have been perfect love. You created a perfect world and we sinned. You gave us commandments to show us the perfect way to live and we failed to obey them. Generation after generation You guided and provided for us and we chose to go our own way.

Then, You sent Jesus, the One You promised, to suffer the punishment we deserved for rejecting You and Your perfect love. Your Son, the Word made flesh, humbled Himself, became human, and showed us Your “pure all-consuming love.”

Father, I’m so sorry for the times I’ve listened to the enemy’s lies. I’m sorry for ever doubting Your perfect unfailing love. I’m sorry I’ve stubbornly insisted on doing things my own way. Please forgive me and help me respond to Your love by giving myself to You in love.

By Your grace through the power of Your Spirit, Jesus is the source of my faith and the One on whom I will set my heart and mind forever. I offer myself to You. I thank you for Your love. Please be with me through the day and make me mindful of every blessing I have from You. I pray all this in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.

Jesus came, suffered, died, and rose again to show us God's perfect unfailing love; not because of what we do or say but because He chooses to love us.

May the Lord help us see His love everywhere in everything. May He help us “be still and know.” (Psalm 46:10) May He help us count every blessing. (Ephesians 1:3) May He give us all we need to SEEK His Kingdom and love Him completely . . . heart, soul, mind, and strength. (Mark 12:30) May He give us everything we need to pray, praise, and give thanks always and forever.

Here’s one more quote that reminded me of God’s perfect unfailing love…

“God’s unfailing love for us is an objective fact affirmed over and over in the Scriptures. It is true whether we believe it or not. Our doubts do not destroy God’s love, nor does our faith create it. It originates in the very nature of God, who is love, and it flows to us through our union with His beloved Son.” Jerry Bridges

Tell us . . . where do you see God’s perfect unfailing love?

May He bless you as you count your blessings and focus on His love.

We would love to pray for you.

  1. What a beautiful, heartfelt post this is, Deb. Yes, God’s love for us is there each day, unfailing and true whether we choose to believe that fact, or not.
    Blessings!

    1. Thank you, Martha! I am so very blessed by your words of encouragement. Blessings and hugs!

  2. Oh an amazing Amen for you Sister Deb! I was thinking about this today and now I’m reading about it! Glory be to God!❤️????????????????

    1. Thank you so very much, Lisa! God bless you!

  3. When we start making a list of things we are grateful for the list goes on and on. I thank God when I see a Robin, robins make me smile and think of His blessings. We do tend to take for granted heating, plumbing and food sometimes. Perhaps being grateful for our blessings will encourage us to pray for those who don’t have the things we take for granted. x

    1. I love the way you said you smile and thank Him when you see a Robin, Angela. His “eternal power and divine nature are evident in all creation. Paul wrote, “For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature.” Romans 1:20 We are so blessed that He wants us to know and be blessed by His unfailing love. God bless you!

  4. I used to take things for granted. Until God’s consistent chiseling led me to realize my sinfulness, and my inadequacy. Opened my eyes to His love….showing how He cared for me from my early childhood, really since I was a babe. Literally, God became my father in place of my parents. Which is so dear to my heart Ezekiel 16. And as I look back, I see His loving hand in all facets of my life, in the good times, as in the trials. Jesus never fell back, or side stepped me, but faithfully guided my life. If I wondered too far, He realed me back. If I forgot about Him, then He used a difficulty, or adversity to remind me Who’s my God. The Lord never let us go hungry, or allow the roof taken from over our head. Instead, He faithfully to His promise, poured His blessings on our head – even if we didn’t recognize it at times. Surrounded us with nature’s treasures, so we could see His Mighty hand in everything around us. Indeed, He’s a Wonderful God, Worthy of Praise, love and adoration. Only Jesus can give my life a purpose on this earth and thereafter. Blessings to all ????????

    1. “God’s consistent chiseling” . . . I love that, Gaby. We are all works in progress and I’m so thankful for His persistence and patience. Yes, He is our Wonderful God who is Worthy of Praise. God’s blessings!
