You Can Grow Stronger after a Trust is Broken

Sharing is caring!

It's hard to heal after trust is broken. But I'm here to tell you from experience you will not only heal, you can grow stronger.
Even my best friend, the one I trusted completely,
the one who shared my food, has turned against me.
Psalm 41:9

Have you ever trusted someone who later betrayed you?

It hurts. It really hurts. Down deep at your core it hurts.

And the closer the relationship – the greater the pain.

Relationships need trust!

They are meaningless without it . . . but what exactly does it mean to trust someone?

There are 5 parts to trust – someone who is trustworthy is:

1. Honest – tells the truth.
2. Open – shares thoughts and feelings.
3. A Promise Keeper – follows through on commitments.
4. Faithful – stays true when life gets hard.
5. Forgiving – chooses love always.

Are you trustworthy? Are those closest to you trustworthy?

And a really important question. Are the people you confide in trustworthy?

You and I know trust is powerful. It’s hard to gain, easy to lose and extremely hard to get back.

But we’ve all been there. We’ve been lied to, cheated on, or betrayed.

What are you and I supposed to do when we’ve been wrecked by someone’s hurtful choice.

What to Do After Trust is Broken

Because of:

  • A lie.
  • An affair.
  • A betrayal.
  • A broken promise.
  • An act of violence.

It’s hard to heal. It’s normal to feel alone and foolish for trusting in the first place, to doubt everyone and everything, to wonder if you’ll ever be able to completely trust anyone ever again.

And I’m here to tell you . . . it will get better.

You will heal and you will be stronger.

How do I know? Because I’ve been there, and this week I’m going to tell you about the healing process. With God’s help, it’s possible to make it through the pain and end up stronger and smarter….

There is help and hope.

It would be lovely if we lived in a perfect world where everyone was honest and faithful. Right?

But as long as people are sinful and selfish there will always be dishonesty, betrayal, and broken trust.

In the next few days I’m going to help you…

1. Survive Broken Emotions.

2. Heal a Broken Heart.

3. Start to Trust Again.

“This is what the past is for! Every experience God gives us, every person He puts in our lives is the perfect preparation for the future that only He can see.”  ~ Corrie ten Boom

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”  John 16:33

The most important thing I learned through my healing process—God is trustworthy!

His promises are true! He is faithful! His love is greater than my circumstances.

God’s Promises to Heal Your Hurting Heart

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28–29

And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

I will proclaim the name of the Lordhow glorious is our God! He is the Rock; His deeds are perfect. Everything he does is just and fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright He is! Deuteronomy 32:3–4

So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you. Deuteronomy 31:6

Which of God’s promises do you hold on to when someone you’ve trusted lets you down?
