Why is it important for people to praise God? He's God! He doesn't need our praise but He wants it. And what if He wants it because He knows the important blessings we receive when we do.

“Hallelujah” has been one of the most frequently used words to praise God in the Bible. It is a literary rendering of the words praise – “Hallel” and God – “Jah.”

Hallelujah = Praise God!

Psalm 96 begins…

Sing a new song to the Lord!
Let the whole earth sing to the Lord!
Sing to the Lord; praise His name.
Each day proclaim the good news that He saves.
Publish His glorious deeds among the nations.
Tell everyone about the amazing things He does.
Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise!
He is to be feared above all gods.

Psalm 96:4

As I read those words, I wondered why there are so many verses in Scripture that advise and instruct us to praise God.

He’s God!

He alone is worthy. He doesn’t need our praise. His place and position aren’t elevated based on our praise. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords.

So, why is it important for us to praise Him?

What if God wants us to praise Him for two specific reasons…

  1. It blesses us.
  2. It tells the world about Him.

You and I are blessed when we praise God…

  • Praise helps us pause to remember who God is and what He does.
  • Praise reminds us that God is always with us.
  • Praise fills us with peace and joy.
  • Praise minimizes our problems and maximizes the possibilities.
  • Praise increases our faith.
  • Praise makes the enemy retreat.
  • Praising God reminds us of His grace, mercy, faithfulness, and unfailing love.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.

Ephesians 1:3

When we praise God we tell the world…

  • About the difference God has made in our lives.
  • About God’s blessings and love.
  • About the blessings God wants for them.
  • About the importance of SEEKing a relationship with God.
  • About the hope God wants for their future.
  • About the peace that passes understanding.
  • About God’s ability to fill their hearts and give them everything they need.

And when we praise God and tell others, they just may want to KNOW, TRUST, and LOVE Him because they see His Spirit at work in us.

You and I were created to glorify God . . . to raise a hallelujah and praise Him with every part of our lives. It blesses us and tells others that He is who He says He is and that He can and will do what He says He will do.

God alone is forever and always worthy of all our praise.

The Father is worthy. Jesus is worthy. The Spirit is worthy.

One of my favorite songs of praise is a simple song from Maranatha Music:

Father, I adore You. Lay my life before You. How I love You.
Jesus, I adore You. Lay my life before You. How I love You.
Spirit, I adore You. Lay my life before You. How I love You.

Why is it important for people to praise God? He's God! He doesn't need our praise but He wants it. And what if He wants it because He knows the important blessings we receive when we do.

Let’s pray…

A Prayer to Praise God and Tell the World

Father, I thank and praise You for who You are for You alone are worthy of my praise. And I thank and praise You for all You have done for me. You gave me life. You gave Jesus to make it possible for me to be forgiven and saved. You gave me Your Word that I might know Your promises. You gave me faith and hope and love. You gave me a family and friends. And You faithfully give me everything I need each day.

It’s so easy for me to take these blessings for granted. Please forgive me. Give me a grateful heart that fills every part of my life. May I pour myself out in grateful service for all You have done and continue to do for me. May I tell the world about You through both my words of praise and my acts of service. May Your love abound in me that many might know the joy of Knowing, Trusting, and Loving You.

I pray that in light of Your mercy, I will faithfully give myself to You as a living sacrifice. May I worship and praise You with humble child-like faith completely dependent and pleasing in Your sight. May my love for You and others be sincere. May I hate what is evil and cling to all that You call good. May I live according to Your will and overcome evil with the goodness that comes from You alone. (Romans 12)

Father, Your grace is sufficient in my life. I thank and praise You with all my heart and by Your grace, I pray to do so forever and always. In Jesus’ precious name, I pray. Amen.

Why is it important for people to praise God? He's God! He doesn't need our praise but He wants it. And what if He wants it because He knows the important blessings we receive when we do.

Praise is an important part of a life surrendered to God.

Here are just a few more verses and quotes to inspire our hearts to praise God…

Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name.

Hebrews 13:15

“Satan so hates the genuine praise of Christ that his fiery darts of discouragement are not effective against us when we respond in praise.” ~ William Thrasher

The Lord is my strength and my song; He has given me victory.
This is my God, and I will praise Him—my father’s God, and I will exalt Him!

Exodus 15:2

“Like supernatural effervescence, praise will sometimes bubble up from the joy of simply knowing Christ. Praise like that is…delight. Pure pleasure! But praise can also be supernatural determination. A decisive action. Praise like that is…quiet resolve. Fixed devotion. Strength of spirit.” ~ Joni Eareckson Tada

I can never praise God enough. I can never thank Him enough. He has always made a way, He has been beyond wonderful to shower me with blessings. One of the greatest is that I know, without a doubt that there is a true Triune God in Heaven. He has been with me for all my life here on earth and He is leading me Home. I cannot imagine how anyone cannot believe. I cannot imagine, not believing! The glory and grace of God is in every breath I take. Every breath is a gift and every heart beat should drum out in praise to Him! And yet, it would still never be enough…
Psalm 29:2 Give unto the Lord the glory due unto His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of His holiness.
