Why Jesus’ Resurrection Offers Truth and Life Forever

Jesus' resurrection broke the power of death. He is the Way to Everlasting Life, He is the Truth of the Good News of God's Love. He is the source of an abundant life now and forever.

We love celebrating Jesus’ resurrection but there’s a part of us that wants to look away when it comes to the Lord’s suffering and death.

We don’t want to see ourselves running away in fear with the disciples.
We don’t want to see ourselves standing in the crowd shouting, “Crucify Him.”
We don’t want to see Him in pain and struggling to breathe.
We don’t want to think of His lifeless body being placed in the tomb.

We want to look away on Good Friday because it’s hard to admit the truth of Paul’s words…

Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried…

1 Corinthians 15:3b

We want the Good News of Easter but struggle with the thought that our sinfulness and inability to obey God’s Law made Good Friday necessary.

But that’s why Jesus died. God, the Father, gave the Law to show us the way to a better life and we ignored Him and sinfully chose our own way. Jesus, the Son, kept that law perfectly and suffered the punishment we deserved because we couldn’t.

But the Good News is Jesus’ death and burial wasn’t the end. Paul continued…

And He was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. After that, He was seen by more than 500 of His followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. Then He was seen by James and later by all the apostles.

1 Corinthians 15:4–7

Jesus’ resurrection is simply a Sweet Story if we insist on looking away and refuse to accept that we’re sinners in need of God’s grace, mercy, and love. But when we pause and admit our participation in Good Friday … His Resurrection on Sunday becomes the BEST NEWS EVER.

Paul also wrote the following in his second letter to Timothy…

For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was His plan from before the beginning of time—to show us His grace through Christ Jesus. And now He has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News.

2 Timothy 1:9–10

Jesus’ resurrection broke the power of death. He is the Way to Everlasting Life, He is the Truth of the Good News of God’s Love. He is the source of abundant life now and forever.

So, this day after our resurrection celebration may we build each other up with these words of John in Revelation…

Grace and peace to you from the One who is, who always was, and who is still to come; from the sevenfold Spirit before His throne; and from Jesus Christ. He is the faithful witness to these things, the first to rise from the dead, and the ruler of all the kings of the world. All glory to Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding His blood for us.

Revelation 1:4b–5
Jesus' resurrection broke the power of death. He is the Way to Everlasting Life, He is the Truth of the Good News of God's Love. He is the source of an abundant life now and forever.

Let’s pray…

A Prayer of Thanks that Death is Not the End
Jesus’ Resurrection Brings Truth and Life

Father, how can I begin to thank You for the way You love me? You gave Your only Son, a precious part of Yourself to save people who failed to trust and obey Your will. You created a perfect world for us and we chose to doubt Your love and care. You gave us Your Commands to guard and protect us and we failed to follow them.

Then, because of Your love, You gave us Your Son and we crucified Him. Your forgiveness and love are beyond our understanding and comprehension. We need You. We need Jesus. We need Your Spirit.

As I live each day with the gift of Jesus’ resurrection victory, please never let me lose sight of the price Jesus paid to give me that gift. May I humbly remember that it was my sins that took Him to the cross and my sins that caused His death. But it was Your power and love that raised Him in glory.

He is the Alpha and Omega. He is the Foundation of my faith and the Source of my future filled with hope. He is Life. He is the Good Shepherd and my Redeemer. He is all I need today, tomorrow, and forever.

By Your grace, mercy, and love, Father, we have TRUTH and LIFE through Jesus’ resurrection. Please give me everything I need to TRUST and OBEY and shine the light of Your love in all I say and do. I love You, Lord, and give myself to You. Amen.

Encouraging Quotes about Jesus’ Resurrection

“The best news of the Christian gospel is that the supremely glorious Creator of the universe has acted in Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection to remove every obstacle between us and Himself so that we may find everlasting joy in seeing and savoring His infinite beauty.” ~ John Piper

“In short, I didn’t become a Christian because God promised I would have an even happier life than I had as an atheist. He never promised any such thing. Indeed, following Him would inevitably bring divine demotions in the eyes of the world. Rather, I became a Christian because the evidence was so compelling that Jesus really is the one-and-only Son of God who proved His divinity by rising from the dead. That meant following Him was the most rational and logical step I could possibly take.” ~ Lee Strobel

Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die.

John 11:25–26
